I saw a brand new never fired SCAR 17 for $2650 on a local trade website. I have always thought they were a very cool gun. I have 2 AR-15 platforms and 2 AR-10. I am considering this FN product. What do you guys think?

Great price in the current market! Many have called the rifle--the best battle rifle on the market at the moment. Highly accurate!

What are these valued after it has been shot? At $650 less than retail is this a good investment buy? I am not familiar with them, they just always ketch my eye when I see them in stores.

    Is it black or FDE?

I have seen some black ones in that range ($26XX-$28XX). Seems like the FDE ones are hard to find below $3,0XX. In fact, you can go to gunbroker now and see several NO RESERVE auctions for black ones at those prices.

    Good luck

I have done extensive searching for one and that is a damn good price. Average retailer value is $3000. They are between range between 2800 and 3200.

Price sounds really good, but if it's "to good to be true", it might be. I would only do a FTF unless you know the seller. I've heard of too many "local board" sales go bad.

It will end in a FTF. We are discussing a trade for my smith n wesson M&P10 6magpul mags+$1300 cash. I have been chatting with him all day via text. Seems legit.

Are they difficult to take down? He said it has never been fired but I want to check. I have never shot one so I don't have a clue how to break it down. Is it similar to a AR?

I also called fNH and asked how there warranty works. They said they warranty the rifle regardless of who the original purchaser is.

Called the local shop and they had one for$3100, they also have mags for $50 each. So i figured $2650 was worth it to see if i like it, hopefully I find enough value in it to replace 2 AR's I have. Had to make a deal with my understanding lady. Range time this weekend!

Thats a great price if its real. The is current LEO mil pricing on the stuff if I recall. It was 2200 or 2400. Let me tell you you will be really really happy with it at sub 8lbs naked and being sub moa. Its a game changer. The PWS break on it works amazingly well to boot.

    Buy it!

That was my first thought. Good price before Newtown. So good now, I would be a little cautious. But still make a run at it.

Easier. Especially for field cleaning. IMO. the receiver is the upper.

Push out a pin, push the lower. That gets to access to behind the stock. Pull the entire bolt carrier out.

It's clean and is in perfect condition. Going shooting the next 2days. Prob take it out on the Sunday trip at the gun range. Tomorrow is a hiking/shooting day, I won't have all my tools to break the barrel in properly. I really like the way it feels. The more I have read up on it the more I am liking it. The iron sights are real nice too. The owners manual makes you feel good about your purchase explaining its development. I think it has a chance to replace my AR-10's. I hope it does, because that's the deal I made with "what's her name" aka "snail", "wife", "my lady".

Good choice. Good price. I just received my second SCAR 17 this time in black. They like heavier ammunition. I put a NF 2.5-10x 42 on it and a Geiselle Super SCAR trigger. With plain old American Eagle 168 grain M1A box ammo I can put 7 out of 10 rounds in a ragged 1" area @ 100 yards from a bench using a bipod and no bags. And I'm really not a very accurate shooter. You'll love it, but buy the trigger before you buy an Optic, it is that important.

How heavy? I have 168-208gr Amax and a bunch of varget for loading. Is the trigger a drop in, or is it a more complicated install? I think I want a 2.5-10x vortex viper ffp, I have a vortex 1-4x on it now (was on the black rain).

I would buy it in a heartbeat. Fantastic system, easy use, very interoperable with your M4 platform muscle memory.

The Super SCAR trigger install is not complicated at all and Geiselle provides good instructions plus their are some really good web videos out their explaining how to do it. Just take your time and dont force anything. The only issues I have seen is that sometimes the trigger pins might be a few thousanths thick so you might need to take an emory cloth and go over them to get a good fit in the new Geiselle trigger. Also some have had to sand a pinch off of the trigger slot in the polymer lower in order to get a good trigger clearance fit. Personnaly, I have a 16s and a 17s both with Geiselle triggers now and did not have to do any of this at all they dropped right in. Outstanding trigger and by far the best modification you can spend your money on!

You should be able to shoot your 168 Amax just fine.

I am ordering two of the G super scar triggers in the am. I find myself having to pull to damn hard thus not getting all the possible accuracy possible out of the platform. Best price I have found was $325 on them if anyone knows a better place or price that has them in stock let me know please. I will be placing my order at 10am eastern time tomorrow morning either way.

You Google FOO is strong young svxwilson..... All BS aside. Thanks! I just ordered the trigger and the enhanced GG&G charging handle. I wish they had the streamlight TLR-1 HL as well and they would have been a one stop shop for me. Thank again. Now my Scar 17s are or will be complete.

Ahh.....Its nice to be done with builds. Now I have time to enjoy them.
    Thanks again,
    Bones

Keeping this thread updated with the current market value of the SCAR rifles; I've seen a few used 16s sell for $1600-2000 and used 17s sell for $1900-$2300. The reason you see people listing their SCAR rifles for $2500-$3000+ is well...because they purchased the rifle during the panic for $3000+.

I believe the prices on the 16s may even continue to go lower as the market gets flooded with more of them, since SOCOM cancelled the 16s contract back in 2010. This is going to affect the 17s as well but the pricing gap between the two will still be at around $300.

I agree with the above but I also think the folks are getting tired of the lousy triggers and the cost to put the SCAR Geissele trigger in. Plus the 17 is hard on scopes. THe accuracy of my 16S is nowhere as good as my Noveske Afghan or LMT CQB partially due to the crummy factory trigger and thin barrel. I can't see dumping big bucks in it for a Geissele to see if it will group better. Additionally the friends I have that shoot the 17 are all disappointed in the groups they get after the barrel warms up after shooting it during a range session.

I think the price you got is good based on what I see on GB and other sites. I am not a fan of this weapon although it has been called "the greatest battle rifle ever made" here by some. Don't like the impulse response and never can get it comfortable. I have 2 friends that swear by them. My experience with it does not translate to how you will like it.

Hell, for the price you are paying; you can try it and sell at a small profit if you don't like it.

    Good luck!

    BR,

+1 samnev, I would be shocked to see a 16s/17s shoot groups even close to what my noveske SS recce produces. FN just isn't know for sub-moa accuracy.

the panic buying is over gun sales are down / prices are coming down product will be more available .... scar 17 $ 2629

I have seen a few NIB from a retailer sell for $2450-$2500 on gunbroker.

FWIW my 17 is capable of .5 MOA (at least once), with the crappy factory trigger and in my case hot brass hitting my neck each time I pulled the trigger. I do agree that having to spend yet more money on the trigger in a $2500+ gun is a bummer, but it is hard to beat the weight.

But the SCAR 17s intended purpose isn't precision. It's not a larue OBR, GAP 10 or the sorts. Its a light weight battle rifle with around ~1moa accuracy. Some better some worse. Folding stock and a 16" barrel on a 7.62 sure is handy for moving about and putting 7.62 umph where its needed.
