Dude, this is an incredible statement. I joined the Marine Corps, put on the uniform, carried a rifle and took the oath. Its a truth that I've never been able to articulate. I've always said the Second Amendment was the insurance policy to the Constitution. But this post is so true. I am free. Take too many freedoms and it's on. That is what the Second Amendment protects. You know, I had it backwards. I thought the second amendment protected me. It's mutual. Without guys like me AND YOU, the second amendment is meaningless. It's true, my rights are mine, as a sovereign being. Great post man.

I understand the sentiment, and agree with it on a basic level. But government provides, roads, bridges, communications, some protection from aggressors, and a host of goods and services. So on some level, our freedom is indeed dependent on government benefits. That's not necessarily a bad thing. It's simply a basic social principle to which civilized people agree to abide.

tucker301 I usually try and stay out of things like this but. You are confusing state and local gov with feds because of the handouts the state takes from the feds. One other thing that most of us forget is that each State is a sovereign nation in cooperation with the other 49. Sorry for joining a political subject.

The statement says, "My Freedom is not dependent on any government benefit or piece of legislation."
Any means ANY. Government is government. Whether it's a town council, the local school board, or the federal government, which is comprised of three branches, not just the legislative one.
States also rely heavily on federal monies and programs to build and maintain infrastructure. Hell, it was for the FCC, you couldn't even post or view in this thread.
Like I said, I agree with the basic concept, but we all yield some liberty for the benefit of social order. No man is an island. Hell, you can't even get to an island without using some kind of government-provided resource.

It's not political at all, because no one saying that one particular philosophy of government is better or worse than another.

There is no such thing as "federal monies". It is our money. Private industry builds the roads, bridges and infastructure. The feds tax the citizens and then redistribute, while taking their cut for wasteful spending.

Go ask the next road crew you see if they are federal employees.

The Bridges and Box Culverts I built on I80 and US 395.

I can honestly say that none of the pay checks I recieved came from the Government. All were from private contractors.

Any governing body really has one job. To provide all the things the public wants, and then give us someone to blame when it does not suit us.

I am in the industry as a company owner. We build bridges, roads, highways, airports, etc. None of our employees are federally funded. But, one of your biggest clients is our State government.
Federal money only comes into play if you are working on a major international airport as they are given funding by the feds. Highways and interstates are maintained by the state, that is their responsibility.

You think so?
Like I said, I agree with the basic concept, but we all yield some liberty for the benefit of social order.
Not really. It's taken at birth. Ask a child about what it theirs...then adults tell them that they are selfish. They must share. They don't have a choice. Nor do adults after years of having no choice in constant yielding.
No man is an island. Hell, you can't even get to an island without using some kind of government-provided resource.
Well, only as a result of a manufactured monopoly.

And your point? You think we don't research this stuff every day?

My point is that your previous statement, "Federal money only comes into play if you are working on a major international airport as they are given funding by the feds." is not reflective of reality.

So I guess you know best where my paychecks are coming from, right?

No matter how you shape it, federal money flows thru the state as infrastructure budget. The fed are responsible in part for interstates but they mostly rely on the states to report back to them on conditions.
They also have the states put the work out to bid.

You're failing to look farther upstream. Yes, your checks are written by states, but they are getting money for their projects from Federal resources. Without those federal funds, your check would be either a lot less or non-existent.
Someone in your business should have the resources and equipment to be able to pull their head out of their own ass. Good luck with the project.

You are failing to read, apparently. GO back and try it again. You just typed what I previously posted. You are agreeing with me.

The feds decide state budget allotments for infrastructure ---> state puts out bids to companies ----> you are awarded state funds (that originated from fed budgets). That is about as simply as I can make it for you. We have done this for over 45 years, pretty sure we have a decent grasp on it.

Trying pulling your head out of your own ass to read the above posts. Have a good day.

WTF, OVER? Is this the political ramblings thread or the Motivational boobies, guns, cool shit thread? As much as I would like to discuss the funding of our interstates and the history that led up to them being created, thats NOT why I read this specific thread. So please stop buzz killing this thread, start your own about interstates and let the rest of us get back to the mindless diversion and fun this thread is about. Thanks. :D

I know women that have bra sizes like that. I have family members that have bra sizes like that. I have always wondered how they keep from "jumping" out of the bra.

Don't feel bad, I missed that entire column.... Answer sheet please. (though I also don't know who the margarita lover is.)

My guess for the pics on left are Steven Hawkings, Albert Einstein, don't know the female, Carl Sagan (guessing on this one), Louis Pastuer, Tesla, Darwin, Jonas Salk and a couple I don't know. The one on the right is an overexposed over scripted Reality show slut who over extended her 15 minutes of fame. Do I win anything?
