Rifle Scopes steiner elevation knob Problem? (binding)

I'm thinking about getting the 3x15, but wondering if they also have these issues. Just have to take a chance since the glass and eye box is great.

Did that a couple days ago no response as of yet, contacted Steiner service last night promptly emailed me back this morning to ship it back to them. About on track with your return so far.

Here's some pics of mine. Kind of the opposite of artifact's:

Sending email tonight.

If you read this thread then you'd know that this was due to a batch of turrets having slightly misaligned engraving. If you are having an issue then just PM me and I'll get a new turret cap out to you. The sky's not falling guys. Take a deep breath and I'll get you what you need without having to send in your scope.

I contacted you guys about my 3-12x56 and Chris Binger insisted that I send it back in. I'd rather not do this, since I know it's the turret. I just got a 3-12x50 yesterday and switched the knob to my 3-12x56 and it works. It's definitely the turret, but you guys are insisting I send in the WHOLE scope. I'd rather not chance it.

Can you guys just send me the turret? It'd be cheaper and less time intensive for all of us.

Not sure why people are freaking out... I find Steiner customer service to be absolutely top notch. Never have I ever felt as well treated as when I had a Steiner CS request.

I was well taken care of.

Someone mentioned the 3-15 and whether they should get it... the turret system is a bit different from the 4x models. I can not find anything to complain about with regards to the turret on the 3-15. It's spectacular.

I also found the parallax and zoom rings are easy to manipulate and ultra smooth.

There will be more Steiners in my future.

They typically don't send call tags. We ask that you pay to ship to us and we will pay to ship back to you. We think that is pretty fair.

I've always wondered what was fair about charging me to ship an optic (or any other merchandise) back to the manufacturer due to a manufacturing defect that QC didn't catch. You ship an expensive scope out for warranty repair it costs in the neighborhood of $50 ~ $60 if you insure it, and I always insure the item for a full replacement value. They should have sent him a shipping tag.

I purchased 10 of the 3-12x50 mm (Steiner "Military") scopes from Botach (and had no problems with Botach, btw - they arrived safely and in a reasonable time). I kept one for myself and sold the others to buddies, mostly (though I still have one extra scope left).

The turret cap markings on my scope line up all the way from beginning to end (0 mils to 19.4). I've heard no complaints from the owners of the other scopes, so it seems that the caps we all got were from a "good" lot.

I'm very happy with my scope in every respect (glass quality, apparent ruggedness, quality of build, quality and "feel" of the turret adjustments, etc.). My other two scopes are Schmidt & Benders, and this Stiener compares very favorably to them.

On the other hand, it's too bad that Steiner sold scopes to other folks with turrets that were marked poorly (I think it's pretty bad that entire lots of incorrectly-marked turret caps made it through QA and into the hands of so many paying customers). Hopefully, in the future, they'll intercept these bad parts before they get out to market.

Personally, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Steiner product in the future (in fact, I'm sure I will be doing so down the line).

I just ordered a 5-25 a few days ago, and torrential turrets aside I am very excited to get this glass and am confident in the vendor and the scope manuf behind it...

Glad to see Steiner stepping up, just like Leupold and vortex have for me. Mechanical products can have issues, it's life

Yeah, from what the Steiner Rep has said, there was just a one batch of poorly engraved turrets. The fix is simply replacing the turret, which he said he would provide if we let him know. He's has been true to his word for some Hide members. The trick is getting Steiner Optics to reply to your PMs. The poor guy must be overworked because he's shined me on for weeks, now!

Just an update to anyone that might be considering buying a Steiner or has bought one that has issues. The Steiner rep. hasn't bothered logging on to the Hide for over five weeks, now. Which pisses me off because I PM'd him, as he requested, waited a week, then PM'd him again. I was monitoring his profile, he was on the Hide almost everyday during that time. Three days later, I PM'd him while he was logged on. Still nothing. Then a few days later he stopped logging on.

It seems like something has definitely changed with the Steiner account here. I might be wrong but it seems as if they are wanting to deal with customers through traditional means via telephone or email. I might be wrong but I bet they didn't want every cs issue being on display in the largest tactical shooting forum on the web. I think at times people come here a little to soon with an issue, instead of going a more private route. Anyway, just my theory.

My scope had bigger issues than a poorly engraved turret. I sent it in for warranty evaluation. The customer service folks in CO are outstanding. Steiner really stands behind their products and I couldn't be happier with their service. They state an average turnaround time of 4 to 6 weeks. They were spot on, in five weeks I had a perfect scope.

For anyone that may have received a 3-12 or 4-16 scope with an elevation turret that has less than perfect engraving, I have the replacement turrets that Hide member thejeep received from the Steiner Rep. PM me and I'll send them to you. Please make the unused turrets available to the next guy here on the Hide, lets get the most benefit from these for Hide members.

It seems very unfortunate that so many people have had to use CS with a new scope. So many comments here that Vortex CS is great, because they have so many scopes fail, but I've never had a problem with any of my Vortex scopes. The T5Xi issue seems to be dragging on, just like the roll out of the legendary BEAST that finally made a small appearance in the last month or so. I cancelled my pre orders on both and was just notified by Orkan that my Tangent Theta 525P should be arriving in a week or 2 just like TT had promised. Now that's the way to run a scope company. I also never had any issues with my well used and very accurate S&B and March scopes! Do you research before buying optics (just like in rifles) and you won't be disappointed and have prolonged and frustrating "down time".
