Mine arrived today, I got to cut the box opened myself. Mine has been several colors but was repainted flat black before turn-in. The bi-pod was left desert camo, there are traces of desert camo under the front scope cap. I'll fiddle with the stock but the adjustments are extremely tight and cannot be hand turned. The scope is an 89 dated M3a Ultra, one piece scope base, the spares kit, sling, manual and no iron sights. The Hardigg case is in excellant shape, the scope box is pretty trashed and has been traveling far more often than the full case. Everything appears to be honest wear and looks pretty typical of the gear that accompanied the M24's I've seen on duty.
I happened to have an issued M24 accessory kit, it came with drag bag, mil-dot master,vane wind meter, sniper log, kill flash and polarized filter. I had a flash hider from an eariler trade. My M24 related stuff is in good shape.
Tomorrow, I'll brave the weather and get to the range for a little testing and report the results.

whats the latest news on these? Is it still possible to put an order in for one? I guess I would fall in the Cat 2 (active but not sniper qualified).. thanks for any input.
None, stock stripped of paint and scope painted then repainted black. No worries though, she'll be rattle canned like my issued one. Everything else was basically new. Rings are new for sure, scope box brand new, bipod barely used, I seem to have lucked out.

The gun had everything but the irons sights, I have a line on a set of irons that are correct. It had been repainted a few times, it was once desert and now it is flat black from a rattle can. Fairly typical.
I had a box of match king 190's and ran 10 through the gun, it seemed to like them. The weather was foggy and 34 degrees, it made the target kind of hazy and difficult to focus on. I think under better conditions this ammo would drive into a nice knot.
I had a box of 1988 M118's and fired them as well. They group about the same as out of my 40X, nothing exciting in terms of accuracy.
The stock was tightened up by a gorilla, it took some fiddling but it works fine now. The barrel was warm between groups, never hot. The scope adjustments are huge compared to 1/4 minutes but it can be centered and zeroed with no problem.
I had four Remington Premier Match 168's in the range bag. It drove them into one tight group. The Remington ammo easily shoots as well as Federal Gold Medal match. I have some handloads that do quite well, I think a Berger 155 might do well in this rifle.

Nice group did you have to re-torque the stock, I think HS recommends 65 in/lb
If only I could afford one....this would a great piece of history to own and shoot!

I retorqued everything. After 50 rounds it cleaned up easily.I set the scope to a 100yd zero and put the bipod on. I dont doubt these rifles will shoot .35 from a machine rest.
I have spray paint and can make a nice camo job like that pretty quickly. Finding that rug is tougher. I have a similar rug with more reds, blues and gold under my dining room table.
One of my buddies is an MTU gunsmith, he said, "ya know that the barrel will only last 12,000 rounds or so?" when he saw the gun. I think you can enjoy the rifle quite a bit without hurting the value in the least.

Which iron sights used to come with the M24 I have Palma International rear and the front sights I bought years back when CMP was selling them,some still in the wrap.
From my limited understanding the earlier guns used the Palma International sights and the later guns used OK Webber sights. I think the rear mount on the rebuilds is for the Webber sights.
Buyer beware. Yes Remington is putting out a great product here but what you get for accessories in these Rebuild kits is kinda hodge podge, by Remington's own admission. I've seen photos of rifles with iron bases for Redfield sights that came with OK Webber sights in the kit and visa versa. Redfield sights won't fit the Webber bases and. . . . , well you get the picture. Remington knows better of course but you're gonna get what they throw in the kit. Early guns did come with Redfield sights and the appropriate bases and later weapons had the OK Webber setup. If a M24 turn-in comes in minus iron bases, they're gonna put on the OK Webber bases even if the D-Kit has the Redfield sights.
I have a set of Redfield sights, have not tried them on the attached bases. The gun originally came with a Redfield Palma rear and an International front. Redfield went out of business and later guns had OK Webber sights. Mine did not come with irons, but I had a set anyway so it did not really matter. With the irons, it might be fun to shoot NRA long range rifle, it has the accuracy.

I realize that m24s are a classic and a part of history, but 5k is nuts!
I have some odds and ends, such as torque wrenches, scope cams etc,etc from when I was issued M24s. If somebody needs something give me a shout. I know I do not have any iron sight paraphernalia.

Looks like a lot of good info out there on this one. My dad and I both ordered one of these a week ago. I'm going to use mine for the purpose it was intended, a work horse. No safe queen for this rifle, I figure it deserves the respect of being used and treated with respect and dignity, not gaining dust. My father on the other hand has another opinion. He said he wants to use the rifle for its true original intent and thus far is hooking up with a guy he knew who was an armorer at Ft Benning back in the 80's and is going to have it rechambered in .300 Win Mag. Now I'd be lying if I didn't say I wasn't interested in this, hell I'm counting down the days. Because when the dust settles many years from now, "I hope" they will both be mine.
Love that paint job, did you do that yourself? And judging by my not so great shooting the one waiting for you back in the states will "key hole" (I am used to that term used for tumbling projectiles) as well . Stay safe out there.
. Stay safe out there. Didn't do the paint job myself but similar to all the others I've used it's always cool to see what previous snipers have done. I knew the term "key hole" would get mentioned. Perhaps an evolution of terminology used when we aren't shooting paper at long distances and instead are stacking rounds on top of each other closer in. However I heard a guy once refer to parallax as "parallux" ... I'm assuming the southern drawl played a part in that one.

I have one on its way. I bought it privately though, not through the program. My lack of time in the service left me really dangling and waiting for the right time/moment/opportunity to pick one up when it came available. The term "beggars can't be choosers" was my situation. Unfortunately I won't put hands on it until at least late April when I'm due my next vacation. Although my wife will go through everything for me, inventory the pieces / parts and take details pictures of everything.
One aspect I will need schooling on are the BUIS. I've read quite a bit on the changes over the years but when putting it to practical hands on I might need some assistance. The current owner hasn't even opened the sights package so couldn't verify exactly what was in it or the combination of pieces. It's a late 2012 rebuild and the accessory kit was put together in late Feb 2013 so I am hoping the sights match as parts inventory should have been pretty good at that point. Time will tell of course.

That's pretty neat that you will be getting the iron sights. The majority of us are not getting them with our rifles unfortunately.
Exactly. I'm remaining cautiously optimistically that the sites are correct. Next will be to find or have a flash hider made which would complete the kit for me. Then time to buy some ammo and see what she likes. Any recommendations from you guys that shoot these on a regular basis (FGMM 168, 175 or)?
Man, correct or not I would have just liked to have a set. Keep an eye on gunbroker for the flash hider, they show up every now again. On ammo, mine doesn't seem to care what I use it shoots amazing.
Ok guys, I approached twomanattack about the possibility of making some flash hiders for the M24. He's making some awesome reproduction M40A1 scope mounts and is working the final legalities for modifying Remington triggers to M24 specs. I'm hoping that between this thread and I'll post the same over in the M24 build thread that it may gain some interest. I know I'm like everyone else, cost is a factor and if it's to much then it's just not worth it.

One thing that I am learning about the situation regarding the flash hider is the difference in the front site bases. It's been pointed out to me by a member in the M24 build thread that there were two different locking rings, one thin and one thick, depending on the site base that is on the rifle. Otherwise the flash hider itself is the same. Being in the infancy of this venture it will be one thing to consider if pressing forward and eventually getting a batch made. As it progresses I'll try and keep the thread updated and if it comes to fruition then the final detail for others to figure out is to which ring they'd need.

This is a good idea. Once the rifle is in hand at the house, my wife goes through everything taking detailed pictures and descriptions I'd be up for making a swap if needed.

I ordered mine a year ago... as in January 2013. I sent two orders in the same email. One for me, one for a buddy. He got his in June. I'm still waiting on mine. I've called a couple of times since June and keep getting "It should be processed in the next two weeks" story. At one point they had me resubmit my order so I'm assuming it was lost somewhere along the way. Not terribly impressed. Congrats to all who have received their rifles. Has anyone else that has ordered on of these had to wait this long? Curious.
I have the Weber bases and Redfield Palma would be willing to trade for Redfield bases,or if need be trade off my Redfield Palma rear sight
My M24R arrived yesterday. As I'd mentioned before I bought it privately and it took a little bit of negotiating but it's at the house finally. As soon as my wife has time to take some pictures I'll get them posted. I'd assumed it had buis but as other buyers are finding with their kits Remington didn't pack any. Not a big deal, I'll track down a set once I verify the bases. Otherwise the kit was all there. We sat with FaceTime video chat going while my wife went over the rifle and then sorted through the box of spares. It was like Christmas lol.
