I have a Sig TacOps on lay-away and while paying on that lay-away today I noticed they had a TRP Operator come in. The Sig has every option I want but the TRP felt SOOOOO nice.

The TRP is gonna be about $500 dollars more but the fit and finish is just excellent.
The sig fit and finish is nice as well but the look and feel of the TRP just felt warmer and almost had a custom feel to it.

Only thing I didn't like about the TRP was the adjustable rear site and non-threaded barrel. Cost is also around $1600 after tax What would you do if it was your money?

I own a Springfield Armory TRP Operator full length railed dust cover (FBI) model which i am told are hider to find, a Champion Operator commander size and a Sig Ultra officers size. That being said I wanted a EMP but couldn't find one and saw a few online for like $1400-$1600. I didn't want to pay that much. So I came across the Sig and it came with everything I wanted, night sights, mag well ambi-thumb safety and was sub $1000.00 so I bought it. I think if you can hold both of them and see which one feels better, you should take the winner home. All of mine shoot well but my TRP is a dream to shoot. Some people scoff at external extractors and full length guide rods. Others are just the opposite and think internal extractors and G.I. standard guide rods are the way to go, it was designed that way and if its not broken don't fix it. I will say that if your gonna spend that kind of money on a 1911 such as a TRP maybe also take a look at Dan Wesson or Nighthawk. Either gun will serve you well and you can change out the rear sight adjustable sight for a Harris night sight, I did.

Thank you for the reply. The Sig felt great and still does but the TRP felt REALLY great. I stood there for 45 minutes going back and forth from each gun. I went over each one and drew/pointed each one probably 50 times a piece and the TRP just pointed so good. The Sig pointed great to but, you just know when something feels right and the TRP felt right.

Good news, I may be able to get the TRP around $1300 so that's definately a plus. I have to draw the line somewhere price wise and if I can get the TRP at that price that's probably what I'm gonna go with.

If I have to I can always sell the factory barrel and have threaded barrel fitted, right?

i have both, a sig spartan and the TRP. i like my sig more, but that is just me. actually, call me nuts, but out of my 4 (nighthawk, TRP, sig, remington) i like my remington the most.

i am more accurate with my remmy and sig. on the other hand, a buddy of mine likes the TRP better than any of my 4.

get what you like. the gun picks you, you don't pick the gun.

as far as the threaded barrel, keep the original. my TRP has engraved numbers on the slide and barrel. i am assuming it was the smith that put it together. but go ahead and buy the aftermarket threaded barrel to have fitted. i believe barsto and jarvis are the better ones. i had storm lake before (on an XDm), and i was not impressed.

That's awesome, thanks for the great info. You are right about the gun picking me. I will give it a go, I don't think I will get a threaded just yet. Gonna grab some 10 round CM mags and ammo instead :)

Real 1911 pistols don't have external extractors, s$&@ happens, and no gun shop in the country carries Sig only parts, I have neither, but when I do get me another 1911 it will be straight 70 series.

That's a decent price my TRP was about 2 grand and I don't regret it at all, I didn't know which model TRP you were going after. There are plenty of aftermarket barrel that have a threaded barrel. You might want to call Springfield Armory's Custom Shop and see if they have or recommend a specific brand that may be more compatible so to speak. If not Google is your friend lol. They are a good group of people and very knowledgeable about their stuff.

Id do trp. Forged, and 70 series and fits In a standard 1911 holster. Good gor carry or competition.

I have the TRP operator (full rail) and absolutely love it. had a half rail for a while and it was awesome too. fit and finish are as close to custom as you get as these are semi custom fitted guns.

Trust me, I've googled everything 1911 in the past few weeks. Never been a 1911 fan until lately. I did shoot a Dan Wesson 1911 9mm one time and it was very nice. I've since decided to get me a 1911 for range and home defense. I think the TRP Operator will fit the bill without being outrageously expensive. While I feel Nighthawk and Wilson's are worth the money, I just can't justify paying that kind of money for a pistol when I could use that to buy a full custom rifle or new S&B scope :)

The TRP definitely felt more custom and a smoother/tighter feel so I've decided to go with it.

Dan wesson is a great option. On par if not better depending which model. Very much worth the money. Only thing with the springfield is id change out the main spring house housing right away. They throw that stupid lock in it and a binch of guys I shoot uspsa with have had the lock walk on them while firing and bind up. Another guy had his double firing and the mainspring housing was the culprit. The rest of the gun is top notch.

I had the sig tacops it is a great piece. It did take a little tuning to get it to go like it should have. Namely a better recoil spring. I put wilson springs in it and it was 100%. I also cleaned up the trigger a lot. It is great but far from precision crafted. If you like fiddling and working on your guns get the sig. Once you get it it where you want it is pretty awesome. In my opinion much better looking than the springer. Most 1911 purists will disagree. I assume you aren't one because you obviously dug the sig as well.

Garrett Industries makes kydex holsters with a leather bonded interior. FYI Kydex will fubar your finish on that TRP if your not worried than other options are cheaper. Just putting the disclaimer out there.

You made the correct choice in my opinion of those two. I prefer GI and then gucci them like I want, not store bought, if I am going to drop that coin, then I want a one off but everybody likes different flavored koolaid.

The only store bought gucci is the FBI, the TRP is its clone so to speak.

Not to gum up the brain but SW E series very accurate out of the box and runs hard. MC Op runs hard good accuracy.

I have never own the Sig but side to side with others, not my flavor.

I have two Sigs one Kimber one Wilson and my favorite 1911 A1 Springfield, Custom buy Biley, Barrel, bushing, trigger, Guide rod, sights. You will like them all but you want be able to buy one. Wilson 47D clips IMO or the best. Good luck with your purchase.

Well, the TRP Operator is officially on lay-away. Can't wait till it's out. I will put it through Hilton Yams reliability test and modify it accordingly if I have any issues. Other then that, I'm throwing a X300 on it and a Chip Mcormick 10 round mag in filled with Federal HST 230+p. :)

good choice and Hilton's test is a good one. Springers will give you years and years of good service.

After doing even more research (my 1911 fetish has now become a full blown obsession) I found out I work in the same town as Jeff Abernathy of Tommy Guns, son to the late Tommy Abernathy. It's crazy, I drive by his place on patrol everyday and never knew it existed :)

Thanks BigJoe, I'm glad you approve because I know you are very familiar with the 1911, so your opinion is greatly appreciated.

Pusher591, I see another 1911 in your future. They are habit forming. good Luck with your TRP my nephew carry's one on patrol in our city police dept.. I love my Sig ultra carry 1911 also.

It is an evil, evil thing the 1911.... I have had Dan Wessons, Springfield, Colt, Para and now STI... I have a box of triggers, sears, springs.... It's like tinker toys for grownups. Don't think I have ever just "left one alone". Whatever you want to do to them, you can do! Check out 10-8 performance and Wilson parts... Welcome to the club

Is it bad that I'm putting guns on lay-away when I owe you $75 :)
I'll get it to you this week.

LMAO! Hey, we are all friends here and share your addiction. I'll just spend it on ammo to run you thru some pistol drills anyway

and..... just to rub salt in an open wound.....
