Barrett MRAD 308 conversion kit

Got a link? Because I'm having a hard time believing they are finally going to sell it.

I also emailed them and was told by a Bradley Drake that they are currently taking pre-orders in 308 and 300 WM for $1951. You have to call Barrett directly to place your order.

Preorder for the 2015 calendar year!.....just kidding.....or am I?

They even have a full page add for the conversions in this months American Rifleman

These things are obviously targeted to the military and the price reflects that. I will say this though, the MRad is one tough piece of equipment and worth every cent.

I must be missing something here... Why make a .338 LM riffle into a .308 Win? To me thats kind of like a boob reduction surgery - slaps ya in the face. Now I'm not saying that bigger boom is better, but my understanding is that the .338 is a beautifully engineered round to be very accurate at some respectable distances.

Who knows, one could guess that maybe a given situation a Mil or LE wouldn't want the over penetrating power up close of a 338 and might opt instead to put in his 308 barrel. On a system where everything down to the last detail is the same except for the caliber.

Or maybe its a fuck lot cheaper to train on a 308 vs 338

Nah.... I would get it in the .308 configuration. no conversions for now

I think your problem is going to be....the rifle will always be sold in the 338 config...and you'll have to buy the 308 kit separate.

This.

They aren't offering the complete rifle in .308 - you have to buy the rifle chambered in .338 and then buy the conversion.

Are you sure about that ?

Go to Europtic. They've got a whole page just for the MRAD in .308. Also .300 WM
These are complete rifles

I'll believe when I actually see any conversion of theirs come out.

The point is that they are going to offer complete rifles in other chamberings. Not just .338

I'll believe it when it actually happens. Just because euro put it up on their website means nothing.

Just for you Poison. Got off the phone with Euro and they have an MRAD in .308 with black 22" barrel in stock and ready to ship. Ask for product # 14338.

I guess it does mean something when euro puts it on their site

LOL. Congrats you proved me wrong.

Wasn't trying to prove you wrong man. Just buy the damn thing and give us a report. LOL!!!,

Not a chance. They almost burned me 2+ years ago when the thing came out promising me that the conversions would be out in another 3 months.

Besides I have this dinged up AI PSR sitting here that shoots just fine.

PSR....Very Nice

I'll be checking this out at my local dealer soon, heard it's about to show up. I like the fact that the stock folds to lock the bolt.

Uh yes. I have dealt with EO, and they don't play. Very easy to deal with.

Bob,
I have an MRAD and am contemplating buying the .308 conversion kit. If you don't mind I have a few questions. Did you have to buy the barrel, mag, and bolt face, or did you also have to purchase the short action conversion kit? And, have you shot it yet? How is it in .308?

There are two "kits". The first has the barrel, breech face, and magazine as shown in the pictures. The other kit had the bolt assembly and a new sleeve. Check with Barrett with your serial number to confirm if you need the "Breech Conversion Kit".

The weather here has been cold and windy. My 150 yard targets are still buried in a snow drift, so I have been unable to fire it. If it warms this weekend I will and report. I did check headspace after assembly and it is OK. The breech will be properly fitted when you receive it.

I do apologize. New to the forum. Are you saying that the need for the breech conversion kit would only be necessary for the older mrad?

I sold my MRAD several weeks ago and ordered the new AI AXMC in 243, 260 and 308. Much more flexible and updated platform. The weight of the MRAD was a pain for my old bones to drag around and $2000 or more for each caliber conversion is a cruel joke! It was a very accurate and dependable rifle though and don't mind spending my tax dollars to provide it for our soldiers.

I love my MRAD but have zero interest in a smaller caliber conversion. I bought it to shoot 338lm and that is the way it will stay. The 338lm costs enough to shoot, why would I want to add two more calibers into the rotation? For a military application I can see the advantage of having different calibers on the same weapons platform but for me that doesn't make sense.

Errr, I hope you realize that the AXMC is within about six ounces of the MRAD's weight, depending on the barrel configuration. You're not going to a lighter platform, y'know...

Does anyone know what the TPI is for the .308 and 300WM conversion barrels? The 338 is 3/4 x 20 just wondering if the other cal barrels have the same or if I need a different size break . I email Barrett customer service and haven't gotten a response back.

My .308 Conversion kit Barrel came with its own break already installed. Got a great deal from EuroOptic.
