this is a beautiful rifle chambered in 6.5x47. Bighorn Action. John Beanland did the barrel job. weighs right at 13.5 pounds, pretty light compared to my remmy 308.

specs:
Bighorn TL2 action/AW Cut/20 MOA scope rail
Chambered by Jon Bealand in 6.5x47
Bartlein 24” 8 twist Medium Palma
XLR Carbon Chassis i am really liking this stock. if you are thinking of getting one , get one.
Remington 40X trigger
Spuhr Mount
Atlas Bi-pod
Bead blast finish on barreled action
Spur mount
Steiner Scope mil/mil , the glass is great. i will be able to see a side by side comparison tomorrow with my US optics i have on my remmy.

got some loads worked up and taking it to the range tomorrow for zeroing and chrono work. Starting with 37.5 grains varget powder and 130 berger bullets. I cannot wait till i can shoot this. i will post reports on how the load development is going for it here.

here is a pic or two of it.

That rifle balances so well. I really didn't want to let go of it. I'm betting it's a lazer.
You talk to kevin on the loads? You know he is building the same thing after handling
Yours. I may switch from my 260 to the 6.5x47 next year if kevins is what he
Thinks it will be. Super nice rig man. Let me know what you think.

Highright. How balanced the rifle is was the first thingvi noticed. I have been talking to kevin about loads for it. This rifle should be a shooter.

Congratulations brother!! That sure is a fine schtick you have there! I love me some 6.5x47L!!! I am thoroughly impressed as to how the SH community came together for ScottyD also..

Super cool stick, sir. Congratulations. I keep eyeballing those damn Steiner's. My wallet is begging to be Hulk-smashed for the holidays!!

Thanks, guys. I am still not believing i won this thing. It is like someone just giving you a dream rifle..

Falex, the steiner is pretty sweet, i am US optics guy but the steiner has impressed me with the glass and the features on this scope. My US optics is 5x25 and this one is 4x 16, I think. which is perfect for tactical competitions. I am really new to competitions , most of the time i just keep my scope on 10 x's during a stage unless it the target is closer than 200 yards. the 5x's on the us optics is a little to much for that kind of thing, great for bench work. I think the Glass on the Steiner is a little better than the glass on my US optics. It is super clear. JMHO.

LOL

took out for the first time this morning. the average FPS was 2840. 37.5 grians of varget and 130 VDL berger bullets. got it zeroed and walked it out to 530 yards far as could at my local little range.

here is a couple of groups not bad for the first time out and load development and my crappy shooting. this thing is a laser! always a flyer or two....but getting better.

shooting at 100 yards pretty quickly too.

2nd group.

the rifle again.....with my 308. the 308 shot pretty good today, i guess she was getting a little jealous so she was doing good.

Nice shooting. Once you fine tune a load for it I bet it will do much better. All I know is that rifle looks so nice, your one lucky dog to have won that thing!

Ya gotta show me a pic of the rifle all nestled in it's new "R.V" when it gets there...

thanks, guys. right now i think the rifle is out shooting me at the moment. my first group was close to one hole but ganked it on the last shot on both groups.

will do, Sfree.

Fun day at the range . Took the the new rifle out to 720 yards. Got some good data out of today. Still looking for what load the rifle likes. Here is the best group at a 100 yards. The squares are one inch square. the group needs to be tighter. but it has less than 100 rounds through the barrel.

going to put a new trigger on the rifle.

6 shot group at 100. 38.5 grains varget 130 VLD"S

ok, my friend showed me how to see how my bullet was hitting the lands of the barrel. the marker test.. from what i can see i am not even hitting the lands of the rifle with the bullet. from what i have been told i need to jam them a little into the lands for better accuracy.....so back to the load room and work up some longer loads.

I'm new to the 6.5 x 47 and far from an Expert....But my gun REALLY started shooting the 130 VLD's when I seated them .010" into the lands. 1/4" at 100 yds and 2880 fps. 41.0 H4350 and a CCI 450 primers.

Great WIN. I never win anything.

thanks , man. i never won anything until this happened!!

right now i am using varget getting about 2840fps with my current load and not hitting the lands. so i think once i have the lands figured out, this one will be a winner. it is not the rifle. it is me. inexperience on reloading and shooting on my part. i have been shooting and reloading for less than a year. i have always shot and been around firearms but never got really serious with it until last spring.

ok found the load and the lands. 38.5 of varget with 130 hunting VLD's OAL 2.80

here is the pics...5 shot group

here is the test sheet, i had 2 more loads i worked up but they were lighter than the one that grouped good. lighter the load the more the groups opened up.

damn.. LOL!!

i have a little cut or scrap right where the grip meets the stock and i keep reopening it. that is why my thumb is always bleeding...

yeah, danley. i am going to do what you were suggesting to work up the load to see what else she has to offer.

new load. 38.2 varget 2.80 OAL 130 GR VLDs from 110 yards from prone.

one have been a 5 shot group but i forgot to reset my scope to zero for the group. best group i have ever shot and plus i now have about 150 round down the tube. this rifle is really starting to shine.

feels good, i have a match coming up in fab where i get to stretch this rifle out to a 1000, hardrock, the match is 20 rounds at targets, 600, 800 ,900, and a 1000 yards with 20 min limit. this rifle should do pretty good. also some small tactical matches coming up at brocks gap.

The 130's shot good in my 260 at 100yds, but I never gave them an honest chance at any distance. I have a couple of hundred left, I may go back and revisit them. Oh, by the way ... GOOD SHOOTING!

I have a beanland 6.5 L
I shoot 38.1 gr. Varget. W/ 130's
It's a one holer all day!
My buddy shoots the same load in his J.B 6.5 L.
It's A one holer 2 !
J. B. Makes lasers!

M

Solo. What is the length of your barrel and what kind of velocity are you getting? I am around 2840 fps.

I started with the 37.5 load and worked up 38.6 and found this load. 38.2 is the best for thus far for me.

It is crazy what 1/10 th of gr will make in group.

3010fps out of a 26" 1/8
I started @ 37g and it shot the same all the way up 2 38.1
I stoped and stayed there. Same small groups just faster speed.

M

Good... But I didn't want to go any more. 38gr is good. I just put that
.1 in for good measure. I use CCI #450's
John actually said... He would not go over 37.8gr of Varget.
But, my primers and brass look good. No sign of pressure at all.
But, every Bbl and action is not the same. BTW....I'm running the Bighorn
And a kireger Bbl.

M

yep. i am not showing any pressure signs or anything. at 38.5 i started to get real faint extractor marks on the brass , but nothing on the primers, i am using the cci 450's.

my barrel is by bartlien.

went to hardrock this weekend.

here is a group at 600 yards. the black spot is about 6 inches. had another at 900 that was really good for me but did not get a pic. this rifle shoots great to 1000 yards. my first time shooting that far.
