Hello SH,

Ok so i have recently started the reloading thing and am very happy to say it has improved my long range precision very very quickly and by a large amount.

I have worked up a load with the 155 Lapua Scenar with 45.0 IMR 4064 and they are dang pretty accurate taken them out to 736 and even though it was windy as all get out they held a nice spread from this rookie LRP fella.

My concern is that the RCBS scale I have is measuring every single Lapua 155 at 154.3 ...... soo I might be more like 45.7 right since i would blame the cheap kit scale b4 doubting lapua for having an entire batch .7 low nearly exactly ?

and is this Gempro a good answer to better precision for my charges ?

Couple pics from shooting at 736yds had wind gust up to 20 mph worst wind id ever shot in and was very high on a hill hence the really bad side to side drift.

IMHO no, a good balance beam scale will give years of service when taken care of, that is something no Chinese made digital will do

Thru my testing, Gempro is NOT in my reloading gear. Go beam, or AD if you "need" digital on a fairly light budget - GD503's are no more, but the AD's I have had are as good. The downside, I have dropped the GD503 and one of my AD balances -- opps a lot of $$$ gone.

Btw I deal with industrial balances as part of my job, I do understand the different methods of measuring .. Lots of people love the Gempro - I do not..

AD scales FX-i Series Details

Best price I have found and amazing service FX-120I - Cambridge Environmental Products Inc. Scientific Distribution Network - Laboratory Supplies, Scientfic Equipment

Btw - you should be after constancy - who cares if your gun loves 47.1 on your scale and it turns out to be 47.5. You don't want 47.1 on one and 47.5 on the other!

thanks for the info , I am used the the high end balances in the Biolabs (Biotechnology grad fall 13') and so I am having a hard time settling with all the crap available for measuring charges. I dont really need it to be to the hundredth of a grain but i do need a good solid tenth but this thing is not analytical balance by any sort of measure and My desire for consistent correct charges is just not being met... I dont want a beam because it takes up time.... I dont really want to spend on a charge master either.. i worked in a Jareds jewelry store during school and our gem scales were extrememly good just cant remember which they were might have to swing by the old work place and see if the shop will order me one.

Mostly agree with Diver, though I find the Gempro pretty damn good when run on batteries . . . not so good (repeatability, etc) when used with the wall transformer that comes with it. EG, it will consistently give the exact correct weight for each checkweight in the RCBS kit when on batteries, but on the transformer it will vary 0.02gr - 0.08gr. The problem is mine consumes batteries at an alarming rate.

Beginning to suspect that at least some of the issues with digital scales originate in the cheap power supplies provided. Thinking of powering the scale from an old PC power supply instead.

My best addition to my powder charging for me was actually a webcam connected to my laptop focusing on my 5-0-5 scale. Able to see changes on the kernel level which has helped fine tune my consistency load to load.

As for saving time with a balance beam. I've actually started using a chargemaster set to .1 grain under my charge and trickle on the balance to get the accuracy. There may be quicker options but between the chargaster and the beam scale with webcam it speeds things up without compromising the consistency.

I also would not automatically assume your scale is off. I have measured 155 Scenars at 154.4 on sartorius scale. The scale could be correct

I have a Gempro 250 and it's a great scale. However, I don't measure charges with it. That is all done on a beam scale. Once you get used to using them, they don't take much time, and I think they are a lot more accurate/consistent. A set of check weights is also a good idea. I use the Gempro for weighing everything else. For what it's worth, I shoot 155gr A-max's and they usually weigh between 154.7 and 155. I get very few that weigh 155.

Thanks yea I shoot the 155 Amax also as my Varmint load and on the scale they weight more like you said I think like another guy said it could just be my lot of 155 Scenar.

thanks man I agree with you and the more i thinkg about it since they all weigh the same could just be the lot.
