2014 AICS AX right folding?

How was there any question? Every single piece of information and video said/showed this....

Cool, I wonder if they will sell just the butt, I'd like that for my Badger Inletted AX.

At the end he was talking about the wide recoil lug area. He mentioned all the popular action including Badger ? Did he mean Badger actions or their recoil lugs ?
My phone won't let me replay the video ?

In the recoil lug area, he mentioned Badger lugs, and when he was talking about the new bedding design, he said it would work with the round 700 type actions. No mention of the Badger actions.

Badger Recoil Lugs, they did a lot to spec it to the USMC M40 rifles ... it's designed for them to drop in.

All the early ones were cut for the M40A5 prior to becoming the new model.

So not only the lug, but the rail is designed to fit the forward part of the Badger Base and it's overhang

I was indeed referring to the AICS AX, as per topic title and first message. Reason I ask is that the lists I have mention it to be a left folder. Don't know if that is a typo left over for the first AICS AX chassis.

So if I understand from LowLight, the AICS version will also take the Badger action?

We will not sell the rear butt section but are considering retrofitting new rear section, including hinge, on AX rifles and AICS and that would require sending it back. We would carry out the work. Just exploring it at this time but technically it is possible. It will take at least 6 months to set up. Also, considering upgrading AW308, 300 and 338 to take the latest AX chassis.
I would be interested in feedback.

Tom, any chance of being able to get the AT hinge or having it retrofitted on my old AX rifle? That stupid sling hook (why it's on a rifle with flush cups I don't know) on the right side of the hinge is annoying as hell and I'm constantly running my hand into it. That's my only real gripe about the whole rifle and I'd love to see it gone. I just can't bring myself to grinding on a rifle I paid over $5K for.

Would this include retrofitting a 1.5 chassis into a right side folder? Have an AE MkII fixed with a pinned rear section that I would like to convert into a folder without cutting and welding.

My only feedback would be cost related. Recently AINA quoted me $1500 to convert from fixed to folder. I'd be interested if the costs were under $1000 but at $1500 it's cheaper to buy a used AICS folder and do a little surgery.

NO...the only right folder we have is in AX and do not plan to have it in AT or retrofittable in AW, AE or legacy AICS.
I am surprised that you had a quote from AINA to convert from fixed to folding as we are not doing that conversion.

You probably need to consider down grading the latest axmc rifles to a fixed stock for those countries that can't have a folder.

I would be down for an upgrade for my "old" ax if it doesn't cost too much. I hate the sling loop on the right side also. Otherwise my "old" AX is awesome.

Well thanks for that suggestion from Australia. The weapons we promote are considered our standard range. We sell through distributors worldwide and have a Universal Price List to go with that. If we were to consider every request or try to account for all of the countries around the world and their regulations the standard product list would be enormous. I am sure there would still be something unique that someone somewhere in teh world wanted that we have not thought of. We treat any requests like the requirement for a fixed stock in Australia as a special case and decide whether or not we will accommodate it. We also treat all military requirements individually and in many cases they need something that is not on our standard products list. Same goes for Law Enforcement, depending on quantities.

OuttaAmmo: We were not allowed folder here until recently. Work around was to just permanenty pin the folder so it could not be used as a folder.

I got a little confused reading through this thread. So the ONLY stocks that can be retrofit to the new hinge and buttstock are the AX stocks? Folding legacy AICS will not be able to take them?

Let me clarify....It will be possible to retrofit the rear butt of the new AX to the old AX rifle and AICS. The rear of the rifle and the AICS are different because of differences between AI bolt handles and other bolt handles. We do not offer this retrofit at present but I am considering setting that we do so in the future. There is quite a lot to do in order to set up this service so it will not happen overnight and at this time prices are not available.
It is not possible to fit a right folding rear AX butt to an AT and we have no plans to offer it. I will let you know when this service is available.

So it would take six months to retrofit the new AX butt to the old AX after it is sent in or its six months away from a decision on whether AI will do it?

Six months before their setup to do it, if they even decide to do it. Tom said they are thinking about offering the service but it isn't a sure thing yet.

Tom,

I know of at least one person that would be very interested in upgrading his AX stock to the new right folder. I think this would be a great option for those that want to upgrade, but don't want to sell their old chassis to buy a new one. Awesome 2014 line-up, by the way!

ETA: Quick question -- how is compatibility with aftermarket bolt knobs? Will the stock still fit over a bolt with a KRG bolt lift installed?

CH does not allow folders?

Yes they do - it's so that I could make it through Australian customs...

"The above information does not apply to category A and B firearms with the following characteristics:
- is fitted, whether by original design or by modification, with a folding or detachable stock and capable of being fired when the stock is in the folded position or removed

To import category A and B firearms with these characteristics, written permission must be obtained from the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department prior to importation."

Tom

Never mind a retrofit of the butt, I would have thought there would be a lot of demand to retrofit the barrel change system !! I spoke with Graeme over here and he says it is a no go. Shame but not really a surprise

The Quick Release barrel system is not an add on piece of kit. It's an integral part of the action.

If I snap my barrel into the action by hand, I can change it in the field with no tools and even faster :)

Looks like the copied it from the Steyr system, which was also copied by unique-alpine; maybe an even faster system.

I would be super excited if AI was going to offer the retro fit of the 2014 AX buttstock onto my pre 2014 AX model, not that I don't love the rifle.... because I do, I love her so much I put 2 rings on her ;) haha. but the whole 2014 line up has still got me drooling over them. GREAT LOOKING LINE UP GUYS!!!!!!!1

I second this!!!

Has anyone had their hands on this chassis yet? Does anyone have a clue if a Defiance Deviant action with their extra long tactical bolt knob will fit through the right folding stock without issue?

I'd be concerned as to what bolt knobs it will and won't work with - AI knows what size their bolt handle/knob is and the folder has the correct cutout to accomodate it - Remingtons can have anything from standard factory handles to Badger knobs, Surgeon knobs, PTG knobs, custom/home made knobs, KRG knobs - either they're going to have a big cutout in the buttstock to clear them or you're going to have a select few that will work.

I'm also curious. I have a barreled Deviant long action being built by Proof Research. Should be done in June/July. I may just order this stock and have it sent to Proof. I ordered their middle of the road tactical knob, not the big one. I'm thinking if I send the chassis to them and the knob I ordered doesn't work, they can go down the line of knob options until we get something that will. Hopefully the issue is just the knob and not the bolt.

Tom, the only thing stopping me from snagging an AX right now, is the left side folder. I'd snag one this afternoon if you guys would be offering this retrofit. I'm on board

I have done significant research on the issue of what Defiance Deviant bolt knobs will fit in the new AX folding stock, including discussions with an engineer at AI. AI says that the Surgeon Pineapple bolt knob will just barely fit. I have a buddy with both the Surgeon Pineapple bolt knob and the extra long Defiance Deviant bolt knob. The Defiance extra long tactical knob is 1/4" longer than the Pineapple bolt knob when measured from the bolt body. I take that to mean that the extra long tactical bolt knob that Defiance offers will conflict with this new AX folding stock. I think the long tactical bolt knob from Defiance (next size down) will fit. FYI, the Pineapple knob is a little thicker than the Defiance.

I would be very interested in info based on actually putting these parts together.
