Hey guys,

The shop dog is bringing us some good luck. Tipped over this big dog at 460 yds. as he was dining on the beef. Bad dog! Turned out to be a fun hunt as the little one is really getting into it. May have to re-name her Lucky. LOL.

Regards,

Paul

Hope he enjoyed his last meal.

Nice dog, nice rifle.

That grass is nice and short.
If I have my dog along I try not to touch one off. Is your dog near you when you shoot?
Nice yote. Maybe more will come to feed there later on?

I have her trained to sit and stay about 20 ft. behind me, so as not to damage her hearing.

Why was I NOT surprised that your rifle had a fluted bolt and barrel hahaha. Looks fantastic and I dig the brake too. Brand?

Beautiful yote and hunting buddy. Sorry about the beef.

Genin,

Thanks for the kind words. I made the brake out of a small piece of barrel that I had left after I chambered the barrel. For something so simple and light it works quite well.

I don't think the coyote killed the cow? Not that you shouldn't have whacked him, just curious as to what killed the cow. Looks old.

I think you are correct. I think the cow died giving birth as there was a dead calf in the area as well.

That's a very nice bighorn build... apparently she shoots as good as she looks:)

Ok, finish braggin' on your build :)

What are the full specs?
How much of it did you do yourself? The whole thing at PPR?

How long is your longest shot on a 'yote with it so far?

Yeah, they'll ambush the cow as they're giving birth. Sorry to hear about you losing the animals, that hurts the wallet.

Oddball Six,

If you insist. LOL.

Here are the specifics of the build:

Bighorn short action
Bighorn 20 MOA base
McMillan A-5 with the Edge Tech. 2.25 lbs.
Jewell Trigger set at 8 oz.
Hart barrel fluted by PPR
Chambered in 6.5x47 Lapua by PPR
Pillar Bedded by PPR
Nightforce 5.5 x 22 x 50 w/ M.O.A. reticle
PT&G bottom metal w/AI mag
Atlas bi-pod

I did all the work myself including fluting, chambering, coating, bedding, and a custom muzzle brake made from a barrel remnant.

Longest shot with this rifle on a coyote to date is 640 yds.

There is a technique of actually using dogs while coyote hunting, especially out west with huge visibility.
Let the dogs out to do their thing, running in the canyons, etc.
Start a locator call to bring coyotes within sight. They see the dogs and will approach closer to try and drive the dogs out of their territory. (They don't ever go after the dogs, or even get that close.)
Hunter whacks coyotes when in range. Dogs don't seem to mind at all. Either the shot or the dead coyote.

That's one big dog, glad you smoked him. I have rancher friends in Colorado who are always looking to lower the coyote population too. Nice stick btw.

Looks to me your best asset is the pup. I'm jealous. His eyes on you is the best photo on line here.
ETA; Sorry, Her.
