Couple of weeks ago there was thread going around regarding FPS for AR comp and 2000 MR so I decided to do a test since I have both powders on hand. The point of the test was not to decide which powder is better as far as grouping is concerned. All 4 loads grouped about 2" - 2.50" at 200yds with 98% MR2000 grouping a lil tighter. My shooting is not good enough to have nice 10rd
groups at 200. I also shot some Fedgmm 308 to have a base. In conclusion MR2000 is def faster but AR comp had lower SD and ES. At least in my rifle.

Thx for posting this. Not much info out there on these powders. Just got 9 lbs of mr2000 and working on getting a load.

I havent tested any 175grain bulleys with 2000 MR, but with AR Comp the average for 175smk has been 2690pfs, 38 ES and 11.6 StDev with 41grains or 99%. This the average of 5 different times that i've tested with the factory 24" barrel in the passed year or so. With 26" it should be 2700-2710. Im going to start playing around with Hornady 178grain HPBTs and AR-Comp and 2000MR the next few weeks. Im hoping to get reliable/no pressure signs 2700fps load with 2000MR

With the 175, you'll find a good node at 45.8 to 47 grains of 2000 mr. And they will be rolling! I shoot the 185 juggernaut with 46.5 2000 mr and am at 2810 fps out of a 28" bartlein. Also 2000mr isn't as temp sensitive as ar comp. I've got lots of bullets loaded kind of hot that I developed in the winter time that shoot fine at warmer temps. About .85 fps/degree

My load is 47.3grs 2000MR under 178s, avg 2726 from a 24" tube, very accurate in my limited testing. Rem brass, WLR primers. 3 shots from my Classic stocked rem 308. 200yds.

Bach,

I forgot to add something i've noticed with Alliant's load data:

1. They are actually accuracy nodes, and not at all max pressure loads despite the obligatory legalese prior to entering their reloading guide.
2. I've been able safely to push 0.5-1.5gr above the published loads in almost every rifle i own.

I just picked up a new chronograph (magneto speed) and will also chrono some ar-comp loads. I do not have any more 2000MR powder left.

That's interesting. The max I've pushed the AR comp has been .4 grains over their max with SMK168/175 and AMAX 168/178 and just like you said there were no pressure signs. The only bullet I've had trouble with has been Barnes TTSX 168 grains. I've used SMK 168 AR-Comp data and started to have loose primer pockets at 41.8 grains/99%.

Bach,

Yes, your experience is identical to mine except the barnes TTSX.

The barnes bullets will have completely different load info due to the fact that they are made of copper alloys and thus longer than standard lead bullets for a given bullet weight. That means they have a longer bearing surface and therefore would need less powder charge weights.

I bought some 180 TTSX for an elk hunt and these bullets were almost as long as a 208gr AMAX bullet!

I'm running 47.7gr of Power Pro and a 185 Juggernaut seated to 2.997 coal. The load hammers but I've been hearing several people saying that power pro will burn a 308 barrel out in less than 1500 rounds. Has anyone ever ran a high end load of PP throught quickload and compared it to a upper end load of Varget to see what the differences were?

I hear what you saying about the copper bullets. A hunt came up that prohibited lead bullets so I just grabbed whatever I could and had on hand. I couldnt find any AR comp load data for TTSX bullets anywhere. I did settle on 40.5 grains @ 2690fps with the 168TTSX that gave me aound 1moa groups at 100yds. Good enough for my under 300yds hunting purposes.

Power Pro 2000 or 4000? 2000 will be faster by 50 to 125fps compared to varget. I doubt 100fps faster on average will decrease the barrel life on a 308 from idk lets say 7500 rounds to 1500. I've never heard anyone burning out a barrel on a 308 but maybe someone with more exp will chime in.
