Invocations dragging one messenger of God or another into a meeting with citizens of every stripe are presumptuous, tacky, and even hurtful. While the liberal reaction was over the top, and they may even have been bused in, in its essence their objection is defensible.

Not sure what all this meant. I was merely asking about the Pledge because they protested that too, but you didn't mention that in your first post. My question had nothing to do with any of the above. I do see that you did address it (somewhat obliquely) at the end, but I understood all the other stuff from the first post.

It was a leading question. My larger point to all this is to say that, being from the South, I have never really experienced this kind of group behavior in a meeting. I think the author of that article is correct in stating that folks down here weren't raised that way. Notice at the Daytona 500 opening ceremony on Sunday, the chaplain did that very thing and no one raised as much as an eyebrow (yes, not a govt. meeting, but still...). They are, at some level, very unhappy in their personal lives. Mommy or daddy abused them. They didnt get the school they wanted because daddy lost his job and they had to go to work. Little brother got hit by a car and its my fault. Whatever. They feel choked in being able to speak about it, or fight against it, so they identify with others to find a way to let out the angry child thats kicking and screaming abut the injustice that was never resolved. Its not limited to libtards, though we're seeing that in spades now. its endemic in society as a whole. Right wing, conservatives suffer the same, its just expressed differently.
Then there is this, nobody really gives a fk about what anyone else believes or does as long as it doesnt hurt others. So take your carpet, magic ,lamps arks, crosses, and whatever safety blanket you feel you need and live a happy life.
