My father-in-law gave me a Tikka T3 lite SS in .270 WSM. I like the Tikka action, trigger, etc. I am not going to sell it as it is special to me. However, the .270 WSM leaves something to be desired. Poor BC on a fairly light bullet (150 gr).

I would like to throw a CF barrel on this thing but don't know what to do on caliber. I really like the 7mm SAUM and believe this would be a great elk setup in the future. I like the idea of shooting 180 or 175 bergers.

Another option is to run a 7mm Rem Mag with the understanding that I cannot load over SAMMI spec length (Tikka won't allow).

What are your thoughts?

Just curious, where do you plan to hunt that the 270 WSM will not meet your needs? The 270 WSM Nosler 150 ABLR is still pushing close to 2000 FPS at 700 yards at sea level (well at least from the published data). The Sectional density of the 270 150 ABLR is .266 and the SD of the 7mm 175 Berger is .264. Sure you can find and build a rifle that is far superior but I would put the 270 through the paces first.
