I have been this since about November last year. Looking aT all the other great setups I thought this was finished enough to share

built for PSR comps on the East coast of Aus and F-open work.

Just shot at a little over 400 yards for the first time. Had a 20 mph cross wind.

Picked up my Tikka T3X CTR stainless 24" 65 creed from my FFL today. Hoping to get to the range tomorrow.

Maybe be I missed it, but there isn't anything about barrel break in procedure in the manual.

Are you using the Tikka mag in a Mcree's chassis? Are you able to run AICS too?

Edit: I found my answer. Saw your original post where your wife bought you the rifle - congrats on that. Then I went to Mcree's website and saw they can setup the chassis to use either CTR mags or AICS. thanks

Try each screw with a tight fitting bit first. If they don't budge then use a soldering gun tip to heat the top of each screw for 20-30 seconds.

i have a wood burner which is same thing as a soldering gun, I'll give it a go without heat first and see what happens. Thanks for the help!

 
Took my 24" CTR to the range yesterday. Loaded up 59 rounds of Nosler 140 RDF for break in, Win 760 powder, Fed 215 primer. Adjusted the trigger to 2.5 lbs before I left home.

All 5 shot groups with the last being a 4. Barrel got pretty warm. Threw the loads together just to get trigger time. All were 1" or less.

Best group of the day measured .236" center to center - 5 shots.

i like it. The trigger is fantastic.

ejg, what are your thoughts on the Atlasworx bottom metal? I'm strongly leaning towards it for my new CTR.

 
Mountain tactical has a drop in dbm for the CTR that takes AI mags.
 
There are a lot of reports of the good accuracy of the Ruger American Predator rifles. They "look" similar to the Tikka.

Anyone have both and done a comparison?
 
I have a RPR, and I think they both use the same bolt. With that said, the Tikka action is much smoother.
 
I own the CTR 24" 6.5, and a RPR in 6.5. I've also handled alot of the Ruger American rifles that my family own. The Ruger's do look similar to the Tikka but other than that I much prefer my TIkka. My RPR is now collecting dust after purchasing the Tikka.

The Atlasworx CTR mag system fits perfectly in the original plastic stock. Mag release lever is as it should be more on the long side so that one can adjust to have very slight pressure on the mags when the catch clicks. I like it that way as the cartridge is then presented possibly high and the mag rattles less.
My take is that most good aftermarket cnc made mag systems are as good as they are fitted. I have fitted many Atlasworx for several years now and use them privately. They are the only mag system we keep in stock. Good value for money, good consistent product, available to us Europeans and short delivery times is why we use them. Our new range of rem 700 stocks will also be made to take Atlasworx.

I've got an XLR Evo chassis for my 20" T3X and its very solid and comfortable. Got mine slightly used at a really good deal.
 
Pretty happy with the MDS HS3. The reason why I used this chassis with a PRS stock was to mimic my RPR 6.5. I would also take a look at the MBA offering.

My buddy has a Ruger American Predator. My honest opinion (and his as well) was a few hundred dollars more for a tikka is definitely worth it. Nothing wrong with the ruger, but it does not compare to the fit, finish, and accuracy of the tikkas.
 
sheepdog697 I've seen on the net where guys buy the $400 Ruger then they drop another $600 to $800 or more in it with upgrades. At that point they could have gotten the Tikka to start with.

Nothing wrong with that route. I just chose to go with the Tikka like many of you, and all the positive testimonies here on the hide swayed me for sure.
 
wareagle700 Beautiful pictures and rifle! I am so torn between a Manner's T6A, a KRG Whiskey-3 and the MPA Competition Chassis. I was so close to ordering a Manner's and then I saw your pictures...drool.

I was between the Manners and Whiskey 3 also. I don't think I'll be changing anything, I really like the feel of this chassis.
 
I plan on using the factory stock for awhile so I was wondering if any of you have bought the beaver tail slide on forend that Tikka offers and does it add much width for stability? I have found it online for around $25.

Also, has anyone tried taking the factory trigger spring to the hardware store to find a lighter replacement there? I am aware of Yo Dave's spring. Hardware store would be a faster fix if it works.

I have the forend and the vertical pistol grip. Even though I've not using the factory stock now I can tell you that the forend gives some more stability and for sure is wider, it's good for tactical and benchrest shooting. The pistol grip is wider than the stock too but gives you a very good feeling if you like the vertical grip position like me.

What bullet are you shooting out of your 260 and what kind of velocity are you getting?

More info on that stock please? How do you like it? Did you have to do anything to it? I love the looks of them but have noone local that has one to try out before buying. Would you buy another?

I love it. I didn't have to do anything at all other than install the rifle. Thomas with GGS is awesome to deal with. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.
 
Latest improvement with the ESS stock outfit.
Kind of think, that this could be it.
Next thing i got the PRS bipod from Atlas, more or less easier to handle with that on the gun range.
Also in the santas wish list is a much better optics, something with 34mm main tube, more light and more view.
But this Sightron will do the job for that time, this aint bad, but dont got the +2G´s cahs for that optic now.

Very nice setup. I just ordered a T3X CTR SS in 308 for my hunting rifle and wanted to put it in an HTG stock. which inlet did you order and did you have to take it to have it bedded or anything else? I have also considered the Manners EHTA

Deam that is one super fine looking rifle, got to love that stock.
That bottom metal is really great option in CTR, you just get new stock use the old mag, bottom metal and the action, and you may have a custom rifle and it did not cost 4000$.
Those Tikka barrels are quite accuracy, so dont change it untill it has been burn´t out, of course some custom ss barrel is a different story, but i think why not shoot that old barrel out and
then change the custom one.
One good thing also about that CTR bottom metal is, that you can buy TRG-22 magazine, those are made for military use, so one magazine will service you for a decade, or two.

I ordered the drop in ready option, just told them it was a factory CTR. Ended up not needing to bed it. I bolted the rifle in and it shot great. I kept checking the torque on the stock bolt after shooting and giving it time to settle, but it stayed consistent. Not sure if I got lucky, or if they all fit that well.
 
I paid $920 for my 24" 6.5 locally. Not a steal but I don't mind paying a little extra to the locally owned store. They got to eat too.
 
My 24" CTR Stainless in 6.5cm was $1148 from Eurooptic. They looked like the only ones with them in stock when I ordered.

I wish everyone saw it this way with the locals. We stock like 10-20 common gun and they bring in budsgunshop on their phone.
