Just wanted to share my favorite sidearm. It's a Grand Power X-Calibur with a Vortex Venom red dot. The Grand Power rotary locking mechanism is amazing and makes this a very soft shooting pistol. Accuracy is phenomenal. It took a while to find the right mount, but EGW had one for the Gold Cup that fit this pistol perfectly.

I’m looking to do this to mine as well. What mount actually did u get. I’ve been looking for that thanks

Rootshoot, I am a Brit pistol shooter (GP. X-Calibur MK7 and MK12) used for IPSC similar to IDPA. Please could you post a bigger picture of your X-Cal and the red dot mount. Many thanks.

@Kaos72 - Pictures are below. The setup works well for me - I don't compete, but just enjoy shooting and find that a red dot works so much better for my ageing eyes. Other little mods include ugly but highly effective 3M friction tape on the grip and a magazine extension to increase capacity to 21 rounds. I also opted for the smallest grip panel. When naturally gripping the pistol it positions with with a slight front-down bias that helps in rapid acquisition of the red dot.

I visited GP at the Shot show and saw an "optics ready" version of the X-Cal. This obviously has the benefit of bringing the dot close to the bore axis. Unfortunately it is not a simple side replacement for existing owners. The other weird thing about the (prototype?) pistol I saw was that the barrel had been shortened and no longer extends through the front of the slide. When asked why, I was given an answer that with the optics on the slide that reliability was impacted. I have had 100% reliability with cheap 115gr 9mm ammunition. The rep replied that reliability issues may happen with heavier loads. I'm not sure I believe this and that the US rep may have been making things up.

Many thanks, I was fortunate enough to visit the factory and help make the video Grand Power Story.

I think the US importer is making stuff up. I was looking at trying to get a Match slide with the base mount cut but our firearm licensing is a nightmare so as I have a Venom from a previous project lying around I have been trying to find a suitable mount. Thanks once again for the information on mount and the images.

Good luck with your project! The only minor fitting challenge with the EGW base is that the screw threads (rear sight elevation screw) used to retain the optic don't appear to be 100% aligned. I hacked it with a little Loctite. The proper thing would be to measure the thread on the rear right elevation screw and find the right substitute. There was also a slight pivoting (possibly because of the screw issue above) that I resolved by placing a piece of double sided neoprene-like tape between the receiver and L-shaped lug of the mount that provides upward pressure on the mount. The mount and sight have been 100% reliable over approximately 1,000 rounds.

I will probably follow up with the new US GP importer to see if I can get a cut slide once they are officially on the market. If you find them available please let me know.
