I'm going to be putting a Grayboe Terrain or Renegade on my R700. Eventually I might rebarrel and I'm trying to tell if a Bartlein #3 or #3B will fit in the Magnum or Varmint channel. I think, from my half assed calculations from the chart, it will fit. But I could be wrong, I don't know everything about this field yet, lol or even close. If I have to live with my Magnum contour barrel in a Varmint inlet then I will in order to future proof the build for a rebarrel.

Attached are Grayboe's and Bartlein's dimensions...

When all else fails.....call Grayboe.

And even if the answer is "the bigger barrel won't fit" it only means it won't fit without modifying the stock. Something easily done with a dowel of the appropriate diameter wrapped in sandpaper.

I have a Bartlein #3 in a Terrain stock with the magnum channel. It fits fine, but my barrel did touch one of the sides of the stock near the fore end. I had it bedded, and the smith centered it in the channel. If the 3B fits any at all off center, I suspect it will hit the barrel channel. Nice stock, but more flex in the fore end than the manners eh3 I have on my other rifle...or feels like it.

Thank you for your input, greatly appreciated. This would be a hunting rifle for 300 yard shots and less, originally I planned on going with a McMillan or Manners but honestly that's way over kill for my deer rifle. Now I have plans of either a T3X CTR which would include a Manners or McMillan and the like, (Or I'll just order a GAP) but besides that, I think the Terrain will suit my purposes.

I wonder if I should just order it with a Varmint inlet to guarantee clearance? I could always use sand paper and a Dremel but if your #3 is tight then I imagine the #3B will be a lot tighter as it moves more to a "Light bull" and less of a Palma shape.

I conversed with Ryan McMillan, owner of Grayboe and all he did was give me the above Tabulated Dimensions which I had already seen and could have gotten from their website...

The 3B might 'just' fit. Mine touched the fore end in one spot, so it could have been some paint or something that made the action sit just off center. I don't think that it will help any, but I have a 3B that is in a Manners EH3, which says it will fit up to a Bartlein #4. It 'just' fits into that one.
