All the shit you buy from China has to come in through a port and get inspected by Customs.
The U.S. Marshal service who is out serving high rush warrants and arresting fugitives.
Air traffic controllers who keep airports running.
There is a huge amount of civilians who work for the army corps of engineers who constantly work on flooded areas or other areas of disaster.
All of the other emergency responders who are working right now as we speak in the mudslides in California.
The FBIwho is investigating all types of crime including corporate crimes that if gone unchecked cost the consumer money.
And how about the VA providing veterans with medical care???
There are far too many to list or even think of. The I agree that the Federal Government is vastly oversized but a lot of things they do impact our lives every day.

I'd go with USPS over any of those 3 any day of the week. At least in my area. I've never had a problem or late shipment with USPS. On the other hand I've never had a good experience with FedEx, 50-50 with UPS. DHL still exists?

My area is different. The only time a USPS or FedEx shipment has taken longer than expected has been when I forget to pay for the real UPS and I get the UPS Mail Innovations service which means USPS does the final delivery.

as someone has intimate knowledge of the FAA and ATC, i would say that privatizing ATC has nothing to do with who does it better, feds or private. the reason the ATC system is such a cluster is we are using old technology. we are in the process of switching to satellite navigation and radar and that will allow for airports to handle more arrivals and departures hourly as well as allow the aircraft to fly closer together. the FAA will still mandate the training but having the controllers private or federal really makes no difference. my biggest concern is the unions. each company will be represented by different unions and have different seniority lists and some could strike and some could not. it brings on a whole nother set of problems. but for the most part, i agree that the fewer federal employees we have the better. i however think that ATC is a national security issue and all towers, approach controls and TRACONS should be manned by the Air Force or Air Force Reserves.
