Lost in Idaho...
Saw this movie the other day. It all takes place in Southern California/Los Angeles, my old stomping grounds and some of the cinematography was so good, I forgot I was in Idaho at one point in time and thought I was back in LA.

The movie overall was pretty good. I had to suspend some belief though when it came to the "cops being bad in the name of doing good" though. When there was action, it was pretty good and somewhat accurate (though there was one point where I scratched my head wondering why someone would sling-shot their pistol off the sole of their shoe, when the slide was locked back.. just use the slide release lever, duh..)

Overall, I would give the movie one and a half thumbs up, and would see it again. I dont know if I would go as far as buying the blu-ray when it comes out, but I would watch it on Netflix in a heartbeat.

I was wondering what the reception to "Den of Thieves" would be on the Hide. I actually worked on this production and it was an interesting experience. You might be surprised to know the vast majority of the movie was filmed in Atlanta. They filmed in L.A. for a week to get establishing shots but the bulk of the movie was made in Georgia. We even recreated "Randy's Doughnuts" complete with a giant Styrofoam doughnut. It's not the first time an L.A.-based film was shot in Atlanta. A few years back I did another L.A.-based Cops and Robbers movie in Atlanta called "Sabotage". It was the same formula with principal photography in Atlanta and establishing shots in L.A.. At any rate, I'm glad you enjoyed the movie.

I am impressed actually that you guys were able to give such a good impression of Los Angeles while filming in Georgia.. I had never seen or heard of the donut place in the movie, and when I saw the Randys donuts look a like, I figured that was for the movie, but thats typical. I grew up in Torrance, which borders Gardena, so the opening shots over Vermont, cruising past the Hustler Casino and Gardena Memorial Hospital were very familiar. Overall, I really liked it.

I didn't pick up on it but I heard there were a couple of scenes where Georgia license plates and Atlanta area codes on advertisement show up. I thought it looked pretty convincing too.

It is a bit ironic that Brits and rappers are playing U.S. cops. Periodically I'm surprised to find out an actor I've always assumed was American was from somewhere else.
