It’s a nice reticle. I still like the Gen 2 XR.
Seriously? Looks just like the old IOR MP-8 dot extreme. There is nothing new under the sun.
It's got a dot and it has hash lines and is a Christmas tree but that's about where the similarity ends. That's like saying the Ford Mustang and Porsche 918 Spyder look alike just because they have wheels, engines and paint jobs. True the MP-8 Extreme was a great reticle for it's time, but I do not see the Gen 3 XR reticle being "just like" it??? Each to their own I suppose, but to me the newer .2 mil hash reticles like the SKMR series, MR4, EBR-7B and now the Gen 3 XR are more "usable" even though the older .5 mil rets worked very well.
There is nothing new under the sun, but other than having a mean based tree, there is little in common between the two.

Probably one of the best reticles ive seen in quite a while, tobad their scopes cost so damn much.
Hard to see the value over a zp5 with mr4 or any of the other high end scopes that has a good reticle.

Agreed. I have a ZP5 and the only reason I’ll probably pick one of them up is for the turret design. But unless you’re using it for a living, a TT is basically a luxury item.
So with that last sentence in mind where is that line at? Everyone wants that next best thing all the time and when a manufacturer comes out and releases exactly what their customers, or potential customers asked for and put a price tag on it we shouldn’t be surprised all of these optics cost what they do. This is a hobby for me and I’m pretty sure I crossed that line from an optic to luxury optic a long time ago when I replaced my Vortex PST. Now it comes down to they all check all the boxes at this level what reticle do I want? Is the TT a lot of money? Hell yes it is but it’s also one of the best reticles I’ve seen for what I want. So if I have to sell my S&B and the upgrade costs me $1200 it is what it is, I have to decide is it worth it.
Consider a vehicle in the same way. Do we need heated leather seats and steering wheels with heads up displays and drop down DVD players with all the bells and whistles that make it a $60k vehicle over a $40k base model vehicle that is just as reliable? No. Both will get you to same place just one is a lot more comfortable to ride in. If you can afford either one buy what you want lots of both sharing the same road.
In these reticle pictures the portion that is red will be illuminated and the black is not illuminated. So in this case the entire crosshair portion of the reticle is illuminated as well as all the mil dots in the tree.
Which brings me to my two gripes about this reticle:
1. Why not illuminate the numbers on the tree? Does anyone want to have to count to 8 dots just to take a shot? Granted, limited visibility shooting isn't all that common but the numbers are there for a reason. Not illuminating them on an illuminated reticle doesn't make much sense.
2. The center dot is a bit big. It isn't a tragedy or anything but the point of having a center dot is to have a refined aiming point. You lose that with a large dot. In this case, the center dot is 3x thicker than the crosshairs (.075 dot versus .025 crosshair) so the dot is hurting more than helping.
Looks very similar to Athlon's APRS1 reticle....but Athlon illuminates the entire thing very nicely.

I have 2 Kahles 624i scopes with SKMR3 reticles. I obviously like the Kahles. I find the centre dot seems a bit too small in some lighting and target instances and think a slightly larger dot might prove helpful in those less than ideal field conditions ( fog, overcast low light early/late in day,low contrast targets etc.) happy to hear thoughts of those with much more experience than me.I really like forgiveness of Kahle's on head position as i am getting old and arthritic and have some limits to neck movement. Tangent theta is supposed to be quite forgiving in that way also, hence my interest in the new Tangent theta reticle change as I am in the market for a new scope for my new AI

What kind of shooting and distance are you doing that you use the center dot enough to lose it?
Unless it’s to zero, I’m typically holding left or right for wind and the dot doesn’t matter much.
I view the ZP5 that same way.

Steel and paper, 100-800yds so far. Mind you I am nearing my 7th decade so my results may vary from yours!

Since there is no way I would spend that kind of money on a scope, going to get a Primary Arms Platinum Series 6-30X56mm with Illuminated Athena BPR MIL Reticle as soon as they become available. Reticle seems similar in concept but with the chevron aiming point.
That is an option. So is the Athlon Cronus with the ARES reticile. Pretty happy with my Platinum 1-8 so no need to change it up. I don't intend to pay MAP either.

Tag to watch this thread. Not because I'm interested in the new reticle, but because once the new reticle comes out I'm hoping for a great deal on someone looking to get rid of their TT Gen II XR.

I was planning on a ZCO optic as soon as they released. But considering they can’t even get demo models out, unfortunately I’ll probably be waiting a year or two after release to make sure they stick around.
First quarter 2019. No hard date yet.

Stupid question: I made my best effort to analyze the reticle and found all the 0.1mil increments EXCEPT I just could not find a direct 0.7 mil measurement on the reticle.
