This is the future and will further strain mankinds balance with the resources on this planet.
Note: Resources are finite, allocate based on your ideological ideals.
Various scare mongers and Eugenicists and others who want dictatorial control over mankind have been trying to peddle that line for over 100 years and have been proven flatly wrong in each and every one of their dire predictions.
You can read older books talking about how supposedly horrible and apocalyptic life would be when the USA reached 300 million people and the world had like 5 billion inhabitants. Then go back further and people predicting mass dying and starvation around 100 million people in this country and a billion or two in the world.
SJWs, Communists, Progressives, Neo Pagan Earth Worshipers and of course One World types love to hype this up, because of course their solution is "Give us control over your lives, your children, your reproduction, your livelihood, and every facet of your life & then of course us being so much wiser and more knowledgeable than you will fix it." Just like the whole Global Cooling / Global Warming / Climate Change scam they pull. It's all about control and power. DON'T fall for it.
Food production has grown way more efficient as technology increased and cheap energy / good science made it much easier to produce more.
As it is now, probably more than half the food produced in the industrialized world is actually thrown away. That is in addition to production not even being driven at full tilt.
In the non industrialized world, food production could be doubled almost right away with the political will / financing to employ modern technology, equipment and methods .
The most realistic estimates show that the planet could support up to in the 15 to 20 billion people range assuming improvements in technology / science as well as a political will to produce food in the quantities needed and also make sure it is all used and not wasted for various price support and control reasons as well as efficiently distributed.
With several hundred years of technological advancement and a bit of social change, you could probably fit 100 billion.
There is plenty of space for the most part for a lot more people, it just looks crowded because you see a few big cities packed full. Even in very "crowded" countries they could probably triple their population by simply putting new cities in wide open places.
There is a lot of really interesting scientific progress being done on food that can be brought to market when the political and social will is there. It may take a few more wars and some famines and food riots and possibly large continental regimes to get it done, but it's all there for the doing if one wishes.
By the time we actually really get to the point where we can't fit any more people on the planet then either we will be in the next ice age and that will take out the population, or we will be heading off this planet across the stars and not worry about it any more. Then you always have wars and disasters which tend to take care of a lot of things on their own.
