Nucleus Orders

Picked up my L/A Nucleus today, about 5 weeks order to pick up. Looks and feels pretty slick. Now I get to wait another 3-4 months on everything else for the build :)

What are your long lines now?

Who besides PVA are the best places for a BAR-LOC compatible shouldered barrel? Aren't they a few months out?

I was going to have to wait for a stock, but I found the perfect one ready for me for my long action. On the other hand, I am waiting for a reamer to get a barrel spun up, so I feel the pain. But, I get to shoot my other Nuke...

I don't know who is doing Barloc barrels besides PVA. I don't think I will ever to a shouldered Barloc, I would just have them machine flats and go that way. I am using Barloc for the barrel nut system though. It does make it a little more easy to manage the process.

What stock did you find?

A new Game Warden by McMillan. A builder buddy of mine had an extra and gave it to me for cost... can't pass that up. The inlet by the ejection port it too small. It was inlet for a Defiance. But, I can live with it until I decide to trim and paint it.

Picked up and fitted the Nucleus RH short action though haven't shot it yet. Everything seems to be functioning with the action, BarLoc, and Huber Concept trigger and Criterion barrel fitted into a MagPul Pro 700 chassis with MagPul magazines.

There is a bit of a "bump" on the polymer magazine lip when the rifles full weight is applying downward pressure on the magazine and the bolt is cycled slowly. Consistent with others' experiences, I can validate this action likes being run hard and the perceived bumps and hangups people might be reporting turn into pleasant feedback when fast-bolting the rifle. I should have this to the range tomorrow or Saturday and can provide further feedback after that.

So if I wanted to put together a rifle based on a current Premier scope and mount I own.

In order of importance:
Nucleus Action
Barloc for shouldered barrels
MDT-ACC chasis
Shouldered barrel (26 inch 224V)
Trigger(2 stage, not totally particular)
Brake

I'm just trying to figure out if gathering the components ala carte or going with a single builder is the fastest? I see that PVA is months out. Actions straight from ARC are about a month out? MDT-ACC chassis are about a month out straight from the manufacturer.

It's a rifle for a new shooter, so I'm looking to start out with lower weight and lower recoil and build to bigger cartridges and higher recoil and heavier rifles later.

I have had my nucleus in a magpul pro 700 since August and shot a few matches with it. I really like the combo. My only complaint is every mag sits too high in the action to where the bolt is caught on the feed lips when there is upward force on the mag. It is not an issue of trimming feed lips or bending them out either as it sits way too high, like 1/8" too high. The mag catch is low enough also that it works fine if the mag is free of pressure. This is with Magpul, Arc and MDT mags. Does yours do that also?

Also, I found there was less cock on close with a BnA Tacsport Pro in the Nucleus than the Huber. The Huber isn't bad at all but it is much better and allows the bolt to be run slower with the Tacsport.

This is what I'm experiencing with my Nucleus and MDT mags. All the mags seem to need something like a spacer block at the rear of the DBM to prevent overinsertion (right over the mag release in the same channel). The front of the mag contacts the bottom of my action, it's just when there's pressure, the rear is able to rotate upwards into the path of the bolt just a smidge. Been playing with my mag a little to see if there's anything that can be done.

Yes! Exactly what I have found. I didn't mention that in my post as I didn't want to further complicate my explanation. I figured out it is the back of the mag tipping too far up only when I was practicing shooting off hand. I was able to grab the front of my mag and still run the bolt. Then I noticed the front pressure on the mag just tipped it backwards. I was thinking of trying a spacer/shim of some type on the back of the magwell to limit that movement. That or I suppose a spacer on the back of the mag might work somehow so it contacts the action in the rear as well?

I would be interested to see what you come up with to help it.

I believe MPA has a system very similar to what we're in search of in their chassis. It consists of a spacer block that can be screwed into the chassis above the magazine catch to prevent over insertion. I'll do some more looking, but it would be great for an AICS Patten DBM to incorporate this as well. I've heard of many actions that suffer from the same issue and countless people who want to be able to set the rifle down however and have it function. I am one of those people.

The mpa spacer system works wonders I’m looking to do the same thing on my other chassis completely eliminated the play I had with arc/Magpul/aw/mdt mags in that chassis

Here's a public service video; notice there is a little hangup when resting on the Magpul magazine, but with a bit of extra force, the bolt does cycle. (Also, pardon the blinky LED Christmas tree lights out of phase with the slo-mo video)

I picked up my Nucleus today. It had arrived at my FFL Monday, but I wasn't able to get free until now. Ordered August 26th. RH 308 bolt face. Very impressive receiver.

Hey all , didn’t know where else to post this without starting a new thread .

I received my RH .308 bolt face Nucleus this week and had a geissele super 700 trigger waiting to go on the action . Once I installed it though , it will not cock the striker . Didn’t know if anyone had any similar experiences with this or other triggers . Any help would be greatly appreciated! This is my first bolt gun build so I apologize if my terminology is not correct

Is this the Super 700 from the first release? If so, there are reported and known issues that should be fixed when the re-release hits shelves.

That’s strange I run the same setup and haven’t yet had an issue

Just ordered (Order# 85xx) a Nucleus RH LA Magnum bolt face today. Lets just see if this one gets here before the SA Nucleus barreled action I ordered from PVA back in February.

Sorry for not skimming the entire post but are the nukes at minimum 3+ months or longer out from pre-order? I’m in no rush to get one as it’ll give me time to get other stuff.

Call them. Its past the preorder stage.

Thanks for the ifo winnie . I'm trying to decide on a nucleus, origin, tl3, or possibly just getting a sotic.

Nuke if you want less than 90 degree throw.

Origin are nice. DLC BigHorns are nicer. Buddies have a few of each. No complaints from them.

I don't think you'd be unhappy with any. The Nuke does like to be run hard, it is not an action that you run softly on the bench. I love it for that, cause I have it for hunting and competitions.

Spun on a new .223 AI barrel with a Barloc in 5 minutes. Took longer to find all the stuff than it did to get it headspaced and locked down.

I put a Diamond TT on it, and this one is the smoothest yet. Almost no cock on close at all. I am really liking the way the Diamond is rolling on the Nukes. Dropped it in an HS Precision I had laying around after dremeling it to fit Magpul bottom metal.

Excited to shoot it soon.

Anyone know if the LA Nucleus will feed from cip 3.85 length mags? ARC website says 3.78 mag length but I didn't t know if that means the 3.775 external mags or the 3.75 internal cip mags.

Looking to do a 300prc shooting factory 225 eldms so I need cip length mags.

Did you place your order during the preorder period?

Got mine running out of cip mags with 28 Nosler. Runs flawless with some mag tuning!

Paid my deposit a few days ago. Cant wait to get it. Do you order the 19# firing pin spring when you pay the balance?

I ordered the 19# with mine. Be careful tho. I sent them an email to just throw it in the box with the action.....otherwise they will charge you 12.95 to ship it lol.

This was not true in my case. Had light primer strikes, called and explained. They sent me a 19 lb spring free of charge.

For $10 I'll just get it with the action and have it if I need it.

My action is still sitting in the box. I just ordered it just in case after reading the posts on here.

So I have L/A magnum Nucleus. I have the standard lug, and the 2-ring style Barloc for it, awaiting a 30 cal blank from Bartlein for a 300 PRC... And while I'm up tonight way too late, the idea pops into my head to try my Mausingfield 2-ring Barloc 6.5 SAUM barrel... and whaddayaknow-- it fits! Looks like I'll be shooting my nuke much sooner than expected :)

Wait, so your telling me that your Nucleus barrel headspaces correctly on your Mausingfield?

Mausingfield barrel headspaces on my Nucleus is more like it, but I guess it's technically the same thing, then isn't it?

I have a .308 barrel that PVA spun up for me for my Mausingfield, and it also fits/headspaces correctly, but obviously doesn't extract with the magnum bolt face on the Nucleus. The Barloc gives you about a .010-.015" window to hit the headspace, but I would say my two actions are within .005" or so of each other. I don't know how much luck you'd have with traditional shouldered barrels where you didn't have something like a Barloc.

Gotcha, I have the barloc on both a LA Mausingfield and a SA Nucleus, both currently have Pre fits as I am waiting on PVA barloc barrels for them. Since the proof on my Nucleus is shooting so well I was wondering if I could put the 6.5 Creedmoor PVA barloc barrel I bought on the Mausingfield to actually get some use out of the .473 bolt head I bought 3 years ago.
