Wanting to see what yall's thoughts are on the best 7.62x39 ammo for the AR platform? I know some manufacturers have less consistency / reliability in AR platforms due to the primer seating depth etc.

Primary use is target / varmints / hogs, so soft point / hollow point / ballistic tip.

Running a PWS MK111 Mod 2 7.62x39 upper on a PWS lower w/ geissele SD-E. I already upgraded the stock firing pin for a firing pin optimized for 7.62x39.

My favorite round (& pretty inexpensive) for hogs is the Privi Partisan 123 gr. soft point. I have only used it out of a truck, at close range, with a RRA LAR-47, but the wounds are very impressive! Used with a supressor, even with properly adjusted gas block, it is pretty dirty and requires cleaning daily, including disassembly of the bolt/firing pin, to prevent stoppage.

I run an Mk116 in x39 with thermal for hogs and yotes. Wolf SP, HP and FMJ same for Tula flavors. Red Army runs great too really all of them have run the same for me. As far as hunting goes for hogs/yotes I have a Crown Royal bag full of Wolf HP and SP I keep in the truck ready to go it doesn't matter at our distances most shots under 100 I just stuff the mag and go. I did have a chance to take a huge sow last summer at 190 yards with Wolf 123g HP double lunged she went right over donezo. My buddy bought some of the Hornady, but we found it just wasn't necessary to spend the extra $ after all we went from 308 to x39 to save money on varmint patrol not to see if we could pay same high ammo prices with a new caliber!

Not sure if you are having issues with FTF's, but if so call Owen at PWS he is awesome. Is your Mk111 older? They made several revisions to the x39 several years ago feed ramps, hammer spring etc so he may be able to tell you something.

If you are shooting 7.62x39 in an AR15 make sure you have the right firing pin. Make sure you clean chamber. If I didn't mine would stick a case between 800 and 1000 rounds, every time. I went through 2-4k of a 4 or 5 brands of the cheap 7.62x39 ammo, and never found one to be better than another. I have some brass still, i ran some 150 and 135 .311 soft points over LC844. Very close to H335.
