Its a hard thing, but really in the scheme of things when you consider what others have had to deal with, maybe it wasn't that hard. I have lived here in Harney County for quite a while. My great grandfather and his cousin came here in the 1870's bought ranches and tried to make a living. After a fashion some 30 years later they sold out and moved. Indians, other opportunities came about. In the case of my Great Great, he was murdered and robbed. He had cash money he was carrying to buy a sawmill. He left 6 children and a wife. My grandfather was only 10 months old when his dad was murdered.
My whole life my old man always told me to be fair listen to folk but not be a lackey. I never was as smart as he was but I always remember his words. My old man was a ww2 vet as was his three brothers. My Great Gpa was a ww1 vet. Had kin in very war since the French and Indian wars. Initially my Sheriff, Dave Ward duly elected by the people of Harney County listened to the grievances of the people who came to him. These people, Ammon Bundy, Ryan Payne and others wanted to make sure he knew of the Hammonds plight. Sheriff Ward is decorated veteran of Iraq, Somolia and Afghanistan. Sheriff Ward told me of one of the "militia" people who showed up to his office claimed be a combat vet but sheriff told me "That guy is full of shit" Ryan Payne turned out to be a combat vet but falsely claimed to be an "ex army ranger" this was a first in a long line of stolen valor stories as the weeks progressed.
Sheriff Ward talked to the Hammonds, Dwight and Steve and they were accepting the fact that they were going to go back to prison. Sheriff Ward reviewed the federal case, case law and said although a raw deal it was legal under federal statutes. Judge Hogan had given the Hammonds an illegal sentence less than the manditory minimums passed by congress, 5 years.
Ammon Bundy who owns a truck fleet service in Idaho got his loan to start from the Small Business Administration. The federal Government which he despises. Ammon Bundy is a member of the LDS church. LDS members I have found are generally patriotic Americans. Bundys brand of mormons pull pieces of the constitution out and use them like a tele-evangelist uses parts of the Bible to prove their point but ignore other parts.
Ammon Bundy and co. could give 2 shits about the Hammonds. This situation was an opportunity for the Bundys to further their cause started at Bunkerville in 2014. Unfortunately for them they never understood the people of Harney County .They never understood we didn't like being told what to do by anyone. Hell, why do you think people come here anyhow?

Levoy Finicum was a slum lord in Portland Oregon and later moved to Utah and was a welfare foster parent/40 cow head rancher.

Every Law enforcement officer/family or Sheriff Ward supporters in town was targeted, threatened and harassed after Sheriff Ward told them to leave and pack sand. .gov employee/families were followed and harassed. Safeway grocery store was a favorite place for that.
The local Burns Paiute Tribal elders were badgered and harassed.
Drivebys of .gov and local le residence were conducted daily
Ryan Payne came by my house one night while I was home. I stood in my driveway. I called him out. I told him to come out and play and he drove away like the coward that he is.
The Hammonds didn't want them here. 95% of the locals didn't want them here. Eventually OSP shot Levoy the rest tucked tail and left except for 4 retards that didn't get the word to run.
The lesson I learned was the reason we have a second amendment is incase any armed people come to your community and start telling you what to do you can kill them. Left, right, communists, racists, fascists, ANYONE. People from out of my state, county who don't work here, pay taxes here or a have a job. We have our elected officials, our local government. We pay taxes. Some fuckholes from Idaho, Montana, Utah and Nevada come here and tell us how its going to be. Go back to your own shitholes and deal with that. After the occupation a group of local "Pioneers" formed or shall I say re-formed a group called The Committee. This group was borne out of the old range war days. Some of these same old families were members. On day 31 or thereabouts ,a plan was formed by The Committee with the help of a few "Indians" to begin the removal if the foreign invaders. The FBI to this day has no idea how close to a shit show they almost had on their hands. The locals had had enough, they saw through the BS and were going to deal with it. The number of participants would have made the FBI back off and watch in disbelief. There were 137 people who signed the muster. That roll has been destroyed. If you ask anyone if they knew about it they will deny it.
The local ranchers and feds have had their differences but generally work together dealing with rediculous laws congress passes. Most of the .gov employees have been here for generations, own ranches themselves, are intermarried in the community.
I am sorry this happened in my community. I'm sorry my family had to endure it. The media says my community was divided but in reality it was 95% to 5%. The rest were from out of town. I was proud to see neighbors of mine stand up to these invaders and was glad I lived in country where we can still keep and bear arms.
When I hear armchair quarterbacks on forums tell me how it was here when I knew they were never here never been here it really pisses me off. I was here you were not. I didn't see you here. I apologize for the misinformation, I spent a lot of time shifting through info and media reports...… obviously none of that replaces knowledgeable boots on the ground. Again my sincere apology.
I too am sorry for what your small tight knit community had to endure. I have family in Echo, Hereford, and Baker, and a longtime friends in Willowcreek and Paisley. I truly value the character and people in the small rural Oregon communities and prefer to spend my vacation/recreation time in those communities...… away from all the metro area BS.

i worry about the deep state militias more, they have been killing more people than all militias combined by a large number... actually I cant think of a militia killing anyone in recently..doesn't mean I trust them and agree on the warlord sentiment, but I think the bigger threat is fed gov. or at least the unconstitutional and lawless parts of it.

Our County Court just passed a county ordinance reaffirming the second amendment in the county. The sheriff has told everyone he will not enforce any laws passed by the state that will restrict a citizens constitutional right from keeping and bearing arms.
No, you have to have a CCW and no NFA stuff w/o going through BatFe. What we have now “legally” can’t be taken etc. I know, I know, but at least it’s a start.

Thank you for clarifying what occurred there. I can tell you are Native Oregonian just from your prose and manner of speaking. I spent damn near my entire life there, but on the coast. Even being from OR, having family there, and friends from the East side of the state that is the best summary of that entire shit show I have seen. I learned a few things so thank you for taking the time to post.
I miss my home state, but don't miss the politics and what OR has turned into. Of course, you hear that from damn near everywhere and especially the NE anymore. Had to leave for work and ended up in AZ. It's not so bad here, but it isn't Orygun.
