Curtis Custom Actions (Vector)

Anyone have to adjust their aw mags in any way? Those running mpa ba chassis and aw mags did you have to grind the mag latch?

With the KMW in my video and a manners prs1 I did have to file the mag catch for AW mags. Go slow little by little and you’ll be fine. Not sure with the MPA but I’d guess probably a little adjusting is needed.

I think I removed to much. once I get to 2 rounds in the magazine i am not able to catch the rounds with my bolt to feed them unless i put upward pressure. Sent an email to MPA for a replacement latch.

Similar thing happened to me. Got the mpa feed lip tool and opened the lips SLIGHTLY.

That made up for taking to much off the mag latch?
If the mag release latch isn't holding the AW magazine high enough, the bolt will ride over the top round and fail to feed. I wouldn't adjust the feed lips to solve the feed problem.

In my KRG Bravo, I had previously installed a Deadline action and trimmed the mag release lever to hold the AW mag at the correct height for that action, but when I installed the Vector, that mag release lever length was too short - it let the mag sit a bit low and the bolt would not pick up the top round.

I ordered the KRG extended mag catch (which is .080" longer than standard length) and trimmed it down until it snapped over the mag when fully inserted - but released without dragging on the bulge on the back of the mag. I did it using a mill, but it can be done with a dremel or mill file - just go slow - you can't put metal back on. 100% positive round pickup afterwards.

If you are using an MPA chassis with an AW magazine, there is a known issue which MPA addressed with with a magazine block insert.

On a DSDF magazine like the AW, adjust the magazine height before adjusting the feed lips.

These barrels will be shouldered barrels with correct headspace, no barrel nut needed. You’re comparing apples to oranges. Im assuming, otherwise I didn’t see (and very well may have overlooked) any shouldered prefits.
They do make shouldered pre-fits. But they’re also close to 5 months out on lead time. How have your profits been on the Axiom’s?

Not sure if it's been mentioned..but for those who want to use standard bolt knobs on your Curtis you can install 1" 5/16-24 set screw into the female threaded bolt handle with a dab of loctite blue. Then you can screw any standard bolt knob on you want. I did mine today and put an MPA knob on. Love it.

Is it me or does the vectors bolt lift seem heavy compared to the axiom?

I haven’t felt an axiom but has the vector lightened up on you with cycling?

I thought mine was feeling lighter and recently got a new .308 bolt and it’s definitely heavier lift than my worn in bolt. I’ve cycled it a few times now and it’s also getting better. They use the same bolts so id imagine there isn’t much that could be different with the lugs.

Glad to hear that people are happy with this action. It is my next build. Has anyone had any issue with particular triggers not working or some working better than others?

Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere on the site, does anyone know if there's going to be a long action version of the vector released or is the helix going to cover this space? Would love to build a long range hunting gun that I can also have a high volume barrel on.

I met Joel Russo over the weekend and spent a little time learning about action and the development. John is an outstanding man. He fully stands behind his product and is very willing and open to work through any issues you may have, which you probably won't have any with the action. He did show us some new stuff he is developing, which was pretty cool. Meeting John and seeing how much he has put into the development has made me even happier to have purchased it.

I don’t usually have time to jump on here, but ThisGuy sent me a pm thanking me for spending time with him on the weekend, and it prompted me to do a little perusing...

Here’s a few answers to some questions that were recently asked in this post.

Our actions are timed with Trigger Tech, and Jewel triggers. Thus, you will have little cock on close, and .235” and .245” of pin fall respectively. We do not recommend Timney triggers as you lose a significant amount of pin fall, which will contribute to light strikes.

I have no plans on coming out with a long action Vector.

Axioms are typically in stock with a week delivery. Vectors are typically a few weeks on delivery.

I am in production with the Helix action, which is replacing the long action Axiom. The Helix is a 700 footprint long action with an integrated recoil lug, optional 20, 30 moa pinned and screwed base, 3.8” ejection port, accepts a 4.0” internal box mag, available with optional 1.1” x 16 thread tennon, and .585” bolt. That should cover it for use with the Lapua, Norma, and 300 PRC.
Retail,is $1,250.
Available in a few weeks.

Left hand Axioms are in production and will be available in a few weeks.
Left hand Vectors are in production and will be available in about 8 weeks.

Axiom Light Ti hybrid is in the works..

10” .408 based action will be available late summer, early fall.

Lastly, thanks to all who are using our products. It has been a challenge keeping up with the rapid growth, and thanks for your patience. If you have any additional questions, thoughts, or complaints, shoot me a text or call me. I’m available by phone most of the time. If I don’t answer, leave me a message, I will always call you back.
I am always open to discussion on product improvement.

What triggers are people running on their vector? Im thinking of trying a bix n andy tac sport or geissele super 700. I like 2 stages

I run a Bix 2stage, works great and i love the vector, took alittle bit of messing with AW mags feed lips but runs flawless now. One finger operation.

Ordered a vector last week and have area 419 turning a prefit in 260 rem now. Any one experienced with the action have any extra pointers outside of what has already been posted?

I just picked up a brand new vector build by Alamo from a member that I stumbled across while looking to buy an action. I’ve been shooting AI’s almost exclusively the last year and a half so I really wanted the 60° bolt. I am very impressed with the vector after getting it here. Finally got to shoot it yesterday and it didn’t disappoint! Bolt lift is awesome for a 60° and it’s very smooth. Ejecting cases I noticed it is different than any action I’ve had it tosses them very consistent into same place regardless of how I run the bolt. The AICS mag I was running in the MPA chassis needs some adjusting but when I got home I tried my AT mag since the action is AW cut and feeds very nice and no slop like the AICS mag had in the mpa, I’ll be going that route. I’m very happy with my purchase and so far my only minor gripe is the bolt is very tight to remove out of the action as the lugs come through back of action but that is being very critical. I think I found my new favorite action and I’m really excited to see the new long action helix being released for a 338 Norma build I’m waiting to do.

Mine has trigger tech diamond which seems like a great trigger. I had thought I’d swap it for a two stage being that’s what I’m used to but I don’t think I will.

You're not being overly critical. Mine had the same issue. Joel corrected it with a few swipes from a fine file at the 12 o'clock position where the top lug enters the action. All it needs is a tiny chamfer and the bolt slides in and out easily. You probably have an early version of the Vector. This was corrected in the current version. Contact Joel, he'll either talk you through it, or fix it if you ship it to him.

It's an outstanding action with a number of innovative refinements. Joel's a stand up guy, he'll take care of it.

Can't wait to shoot this rifle, I have an 18 inch 6.5cm and 16 inch 223 barrel, ready to go. Would like to try a 22 inch 224 in the near future.

Which sear did you go with? I was looking on bullet central's sear compatibility chart and from my understanding it recommends a 3.6mm sear.

got no clue bud, bought from a friend. Its a tac sport not the pro version if that helps

Just put myself on the list for this action. Do those who run them see any loosening of those screws? Do you routinely re-torque the screws? How has accuracy been?

I’m curious who everyone is using for prefit barrels? I’ve called a couple Smith’s and both wanted the action on first barrel to measure it. I did not think that was a necessity with this action?

Keystone Accuracy doesnt need your action. They can do a prefit and their turn around time is 2 weeks or less.

I will most likely go with keystone for my next barrel. What brand are they using? Also when doing break in copper fouling stopped after about 15 rounds down my bartlein 6.5 barrel. Was shooting 5 rounds then clean the barrel with bore tech as pva recommends. Did this 3 times. Watched out for how the rifle fed rounds. No major hiccups except for the last 2 rounds in the mag. No big deal i will slightly adjust my aw feed lips. First time shooting 6.5 creedmoor. I dont think ill ever use a .308 win again.

Keystone just posted this 6.5 barrel sale for their Green Mountain button barrels on social media today. Heck of a deal. They also sell Kreiger cut rifled barrels if you wanted a cut rifled barrel like your Bartlein but they arent part of the sale. I have one of their Green Mountain button barrels in 6.5x47L and it is just as accurate as my cut rifled barrels with 130 and 140 Hybrids and 140 ELD. I dont do any fancy vudoo cleaning/break in. I push a wet patch through the bore then dry patch it out before installing a new barrel. I then shoot 50rds through it, then push a few wet patches through it then dry patch it out. I then shoot it for a few hundred rounds till it tells me it needs cleaned.

For you guys running the Vector in an MPA, what mags are you having best success with? I know what it’s cut for, but my AW double feeds every time..
I have the MPA mag block insert installed to help the AI mag that I have run and it does ok but not great.
Also I’m experiencing what I consider heavier bolt lift than I’d like. I have a tight bore barrel but I’m not over pressure.
Not being to picky but I did switch from defiance so maybe I’m just spoiled. I just can’t run this thing as fast or smoothly as my Deviant did. Feeling pretty discouraged at this point. Any opinions would be welcomed

I’m not running a mpa chassis but I ended up switching to magpul mags till I settle on my final chassis. I had some bad drag and didn’t want to file the mag catch so instead I filed down the notch on the magpul mags till I had slight to no drag. Not an mpa again but could save you from file fitting your mag catch.

I'm in a Bravo, I was in the opposite end, my rounds were staying in too long and cross feeding into barrel face. I bought the MPA mag adjustment block and played with the lips. I would bend them in a little at a time till it cycles perfect. If they are bent to much up, it will drag on the bolt.

@amf_247, when you say you get a double feed from your AW magazine - the top two rounds are getting pushed forward at the same time from the magazine lips as you close the bolt?
