Why/when did guns get so expensive...I.e. new LWRC SMG

Ok, I like guns as much as the next guy but when in the hell did guns get so damn expensive? I remember when you could buy good AKs for $600 and PCCs well under $1000. And I don’t even mind paying $1200+ for a good quality firearm but come on. $1500-$1700 for stamped MP5 clones, which I own and now the new LWRC that blows that $1500 mark out of the water. $3000 for a damn pcc? Why? How? I mean I know LWRC makes good stuff but who the hell is going to pay $3000 for a pistol that you can essentially build the AR equivalent of for like $600 or less? I mean I love that these companies are expanding their markets but these should be like $1000 guns, not $3000! Sorry, I just think the pricing is getting a little ridiculous when stamped guns are getting as high as custom precision builds. Yeah I know R&D and so forth supposedly. I still don’t see it and I don’t see LWRC selling many .45ACP PCCs for $3000! Rant over.

Tacticool, sells to the wannabees an mfgs know it. Thank the GWOT for this, for w/o all the basement dwelling Rambo wannabees we would not have all the options we have to-date. Look at the strides in NV, Thermal, Como an lite weight humping gear. War be it fake like the GWOT, or the last real one like WW II, gains in the civi sector abound.

Can you run 2000 rounds in two days thru all those home brews reliably though? Some sure, a lot maybe not.

No experience with the pistol chamberings but the AR piston runs like a top. Tacticool following maybe. But if wanting durability without direct impingement, and less maintenance hang ups out in the dirt. The piston offerings I’ve seen work.

Factor in the warranty department for a larger outfit and that may be layered into the costs. Call in a problem and you’ll have a shipping label emailed to you that day.

Expensive yes. Boutiqish yes. Stupid maybe. The quality is there and with most things comes at exponential cost.

Absolutely. Some of us know where to source quality parts and have the tools and information needed to assemble a quality AR-15.

I did my armorers course at Crane Labs c. 2003.... so, yeah, I think so!

But your point is good! Not all parts go together as well as they should. And not all kitchen-table types can put an AR together.... or should.

That said... lots can! I put together several LWRC's when they did an over-run and my local gun dealer got ahold of dozens if not hundreds. Some consecutive serial numbers. Low production LWRC Serial number 007 (in OD Green)... (I needed that one)! And my AR-10... which I did not build myself. They are another animal entirely. Ultimately, built LWRC based guns for half our department, in fact. And they still run like sewing machines. I LOVE LWRC receivers!

The price of quality guns has stayed flat, the price of cheap parts of unknown provenance has decreased. Given the amount of machining on this gun, the high overhead of an operation like LWRCI and low rates of production involved we shouldn’t be the least bit surprised.
