I just got a new timney 517 for remington 700. Put it in all is good but it wont go below about 3 to 2.75 pounds with out slam firing. Not sure why looking to get 2lbs

    Insufficient sear engagement.

On the 700 triggers (Pre 2000) I had, that was an adjustment (one of three, pull weight, trigger overtravel, and sear engagement). After adjusting, the test was to rap the butt onto a hard floor and it would fail of the sear disengaged.

Please don't ask me how to do it; I no longer have any Remingtons to hold in my hand and describe. Also; I'd prefer not to dive into that whole trigger safety rabbit hole.

Not specifically familiar with the Timney design, but I'd be surprised if they did not include that capacity.

common spots are the sides around where the pins/safety pivot points are located

also, depending on the bottom metal/chassis...the front of the trigger well, near the front pin is sometimes a different contour than the trigger and it results in contact

I had this happen with a trigger on a Howa mini... basically, the hole in the stock that the trigger shoe passed through didn't extend far enough forward to allow the trigger to rest in the forward position. Extended the slot for the shoe, and Bob's your uncle.
