I'm in the process of looking at parts to convert a T3 30.06 over to a 280 AI. I've been searching barrels an the Carbon Six caught my attention due to the reduced weight. This will be my primary hunting rifle.

Now it's significantly cheaper than a Proof which made me wonder if the quality would be different. Proof also doesn't offer the 280AI in the Tikka Prefit.

For those of you who own a Carbon Six can you please let me know what you think of it and the results.

Thanks.

I also got one recently for my Tikka. It looked good, and it screwed on and headspaced right, but like others here - it will be a few weeks before I get to shoot it.

I did the 280 Ackley Tikka pre-fit. 24" Magnum contour, 1:9 twist. Headspace was perfect. Chamber machining was excellent and the barrel lands and grooves were very smooth. Only thing out of tolerance was the barrel end was supposed to be .900 and came in at .860. Not a big deal, but had to turn the brake down as I had ordered it at .900. Working up loads with a new bullet (Hammer Hunter) and found the two loads below to be the most consistent. Overall pleased with the barrel.

I purposely bought a McGowen blank along with the Carbon Six barrel and had them chambered with the same reamer. Thinking with the same bore and chamber I might get a mutual load between the two. I've put just over a hundred rounds on the steel McGowen barrel. It shoots well. A little slow and it hasn't sped up at all. Once I get 50 - 80rds on the Carbon Six I'll test the load I developed with the McGowen.

Any update on the carbon 6?

I’m still recovering from brain surgery. Hopefully soon I’ll be up to getting out to the range again. Right now the drugs kind make me leery of handling loaded firearms. Well, that and the screaming headaches...

Implant?... Marines have always been a little lacking in the gray matter department lol.

Just busting your bollocks. Hope all is well now and wish you a speedy recovery.

Lol! Just a tumor removal. Should have been back on my feet fully by now, but my brain decided to start leaking fluid, which required a second, unanticipated surgery...which then had complications.

As if the first surgery wasn’t enough.

At any rate, going to try and load some ammo later this week, and take the C6 barreled rifle out to the range in a few weeks when I can drive again.
