I purchased my first red dot sight the aimpoint H-2 at a very good price on black friday.I opened the box and said this is going to be a sweet sight and when i put the battery in and looked thew it all I could see is a big red star with lines going true it.Had other shooters look true it and they seen a nice bright red dot.

Astigmatism blows. Contacts can correct it some, but usually not 100% as far as the red dots go. I finally just gave up and switched to prism type sights. No complaints at all. I say will that the red dots are not “as bad” when you turn them down lower and are outdoors. Hold your camera on your phone up to and look at the dot thru the camera. You’ll see a nice perfect crisp dot like everyone else does.

I have astigmatisms in both eyes, and wear glasses or sometimes I’ll wear contacts. When I’m shooting my guns that have red dot sights (Aimpoint Micro T1, T2, and Trijicon MRO) I keep the front lens cap on/up, and it usually helps with the dot appearing nice and crisp. Obviously you have to shoot with both eyes open doing it like this, but I’ve found that for me and my jacked up eyeballs, it definitely helps.

Have you actually been to an eye doctor to verify? I had never been to an eye doctor until I got my first Aimpoint over a decade ago and Aimpoint told me I had an astigmatism which is why I saw a slash. Went to eye dr and he says no astigmatism.

Every Aimpoint I’ve ever had shows a slash and I’ve had many eye appointments since then and still no astigmatism. Aimpoint and the internet still insist you must have an astigmatism if you see anything but a crisp dot.

Funny this is that MRO’s, Eotechs, and also some cheap red dots are all crisp little dots for me. It’s ONLY Aimpoints that do this for me.

I guess I will just keep shooting LPV optics with daylight bright red dots.I turned 65 this year and it really sucks when all the body parts start failing.

The nerve of old people buying red dots design for kids, LPV built for old crusty eyes. Welcome to the club my friend !!!!!
Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone with aging eyes.I ordered a razor gen-2-E from liberty optics to see how that works out.The price was to good to pass up.I have a couple of swfa 1x4 scopes but the lit reticle is not daylight bright but they do work great in low light conditions.

So i see a star with aimpoints though it's minimal outside. Take a picture with your phone and if it's a round dot that is perfectly symmetrical it's definitely your eyes. I had the same issue with the holosun 510c, i finally tried EOtech and low and behold it doesn't bother me.

I went with the VCOG so I got my red dot finally or shall I say I finally get to see the red dot clearly.

Something to try is focus on the target (both eyes) rather than the dot. If your astigmatism isn't too bad, the dot will appear round despite the astigmatism.

I had the same issue. Glasses / contacts should help. Glasses (i am nearsighted, meaning far away objects are fuzzy) cleared up my RD's 98%.

    Go to the eye doctor.

I also have mild astigmatism and all RDS appear starry but like you, I have moved to Eotechs for my short range ARs and use magnifiers. The magnifier crispens up the circle/dot in the Eotech and did the same for the aimpoint. Plus I prefer the Eotech vs single dots for other reasons

glasses for the win old boy or a rifle scope ftw 10 feet out and everything starts to get a bit blurry without either of the two for me , but with them all is clear .

Try having dominant eye with little to no astigmatism and nearsighted and the other eye farsighted with lot's of astigmatism. Getting ready for an eye exam here and I'm not going to wear my glasses for the week before the exam. Let my eyeballs get back to "natural."

Problem is a lot of these doctors "overtune" and cannot come up with compromise. Then, if you wear glasses they have to get the focal point precise or you're totally screwed. I've been round and round with the glasses people - none of them understand optics and lens curvature.

I would like to thank everyone for their input on this subject. You really don't realize how blessed you are to have good eyes until you start having vision problems. God Bless
