Unfortunately, though I agree with the OP's sentiment, I agree that people will just end up going..."oh well, I still want cheap stuff and electronics."

I harbor no particular ill will against the Chinese population. Their leadership, on the other hand...

But first, we need to deal with the parasites here at home that sold out US independence so that they could line their pockets. Line those people up against a wall and we'll be off to a good start.

And, the global investgation, will not find shit.

Radio ads are already running here explaining how evidence shows the virus originated from bats within the market. The ad further explains that the myth it is man made or a weapon started as a conspiracy theory on the internet.

An awful lot... Until multiple people on the front lines with VPNs smacked the shit out of their plans. The city and prefecturate government of Wuhan is even worse than the CCP leadership in Beijing. For a very long time, prefecturates operate more like organized crime factions than regional governments. Think Chicago of the 1920's, but instead of bootleggers and their enforcers carrying Thompsons and doing the dirty work, it is the aldermen themselves doing it, openly, brazenly, and challenging any opponents to step up and fight them. The prefecturate mayors and governors in China actually behave like they are above the law. They adhere to national code when the big CCP bosses are in town. Once they leave, it is back to mob business as usual. Brutal suppression of any criticism, engaging in massive shady deals with lots of $$$ being trafficked, intimidation, coercion, and yes, murder for hire. Back in 2009, the mayor of Chengdu, Sichuan Province, and the CEO of a major industrial giant had been filmed at a lavish stripper party getting their dicks sucked. Also present in the video were other familiar faces in Chengdu's regional government. The news had been aired and reported to Beijing because several local, and smaller construction firms got tired of having their assets monopolized by that particular CEO almost by force and with the regional government intentionally turning a blind eye. Within days of the video and report being circulated, several men were found dead in their offices, bodies riddled by submachine gun fire... Wuhan is a major tourist area as well as home for many local extremely high tech industries that are the pride of the prefecturate leaders wanting to rub the faces of prefecturate officials in other parts of the country in the dirt. They did not even acknowledge the existence of a viral outbreak in the beginning. Dr. Li Wenliang was lucky to have just been arrested and harassed, prior to his death from COVID-19. There were other whistleblowers who simply disappeared and they were most likely assassinated for attempting to tarnish the city's reputation. Like I have said many times in the past, China is a feudal society by nature. The iron hand and jingoistic output of national pride and power by the Communist Party does not hide the fact that feudalism remains the dominant ruling force in mainland Chinese politics.

Here is an idea, why don't we go back to making all the things now made in the China back in the US

I know the US made goods most likely can't be as low price as chinese goods, but it might be worth a try, at least shake them up a little.

I have never understood how America and Americans can stand for freedom and human rights, but yet do business with people that have ZERO idea of what human rights and freedom is. Not only China, but India and others as well.

Governments won’t do anything, China is too big to start trying to shove around the playground. Businesses may be inclined, but with China’s population businesses won’t cut off that revenue stream. Or if some folks decide to walk away from the table China has the money to make lucrative deals with the big players.

That leaves consumers. I for one don’t care to buy anything made in China at this point, but I never really did before either.

If the US went to war with China and won, would we still owe them all the money we have borrowed?

I know the MSM or some doctors, stated that this all started with a china man/woman, eating things that really shouldn't be eaten and blow'n snot/coughing on someone kneeling at the dinner table, BUT deep down I'm think'n the old bio-lab was working on something evil and someone said..Oh SHIT! who left the window open?? Because of China's beef with Taiwan, the WHO has prevented Taiwan from having a seat at the international table since 2016. That is having literal dire consequences.

Taiwanese health officials alerted WHO about the Wuhan coronavirus' transmission between humans back in December but the organization failed to alert countries around the world.

And, on top of it all, China was generous enough to send faulty Wuhan coronavirus testing kits to the Czech Republic. Out of the hundreds of thousands of tests that were administered, roughly 80 percent provided inaccurate results.

The WHO dug their public relations crisis even deeper into the ground when Bruce Alyward, the Senior Advisor to Director General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, refused to talk about Taiwan during an interview with RTHK. In fact, Alyward pretended the Skype call froze. Then he said he wanted to move on to a different question since China had already been discussed. When the reporter pressed him about Taiwan again, he hung up the call.

I predict that our "relationship' with the PRC will change after COVID19.

If you have not read it, DJT's book "Time to Get Tough" from 2011, I strongly recommend it. It is DJT's world view, and master plan to save America.

Chapter 3: Tax China to Save American Jobs.

DJT now has the support of the majority of Americans to further change the net flow of jobs, products and cash FROM China TO America.

Thanks to Tom Cotton, there will be increased pressure to move pharmaceutical production BACK to the U.S.

I am a physician, and have witnessed FIRST-HAND a number of medication recalls in the last several years. I would get letters from the insurance companies or pharmacies, with my patient's name and lot number of said medication being recalled. EVERY original source of tainted medication had a CHINESE manufacturer. I'm glad that what I witnessed, is now becoming a NATIONAL issue, with champions like Tom Cotton to fix this.

“I know the US made goods most likely can't be as low price as chinese goods, but it might be worth a try, at least shake them up a little.”

Corporate and personal income tax levels over the last 50 years is where the answers lie. It’s also why the jobs and manufacturing went away.
Can you blame them.

It’s also why you never seem to get ahead. Just enough to get by, paycheck to paycheck. It’s NOT because Americans want to be paid to much, won’t do that work, or aren’t smart enough and should have went to college.
Screw them just enough to take most but leave just enough for them to survive.
Just enough shy of the point so they don’t physically haul you out of town on a rail.

Taxes always passed down to the cost of goods. Consumers ultimately pay. And it compounds throughout the economy.

Imagine your financial situation if the price of EVERYTHING you purchase dropped by 30% probably more.
Then apply that to the last 50 years.

Preaching to the choir, I know.

No we cant make US goods as cheaply as Chinese goods because we value life, we value our environment and we are not communist motherfuckers.

If the cost of each of those things was added to the Chinese good you would see that are products can be made at the same price as theirs.

Than when you add in transportation costs you will see our products are cheaper than theirs if made and used domestically.

We have made a Faustian pact for cheap shit and it is costing us everything.

Economic isolation, we lived before without china we can do so again.

It would take greedy corporations like Walmart, Nike, Apple, etc. putting our country and people above profits. LOL, that will never happen voluntarily. I promise you a disgraceful company like Walmart would continue to manufacture shit in China even if the virus killed half our population. It's going to take action from our government and a serious change of mentality from Americans. These companies have trained us to expect $10 shoes and $100 50" televisions.

niteshooter and pmclaine, you both make valid arguments here. However, I think niteshooter brings a good argument about taxes that have absolutely, in the past, driven companies out of the US manufacturing market. That said, one thing was left out...regulations. The amount of regulatory garbage people have to do to even start a business is mind boggling. Let alone a manufacturing business.

That said, I agree with pmclaine there is no doubt when humanitarian rules come into play that's where the Chinese price is way too high.

Think about it; how many people are actually aware of the conditions these people are forced to work? The hours? Even the bathroom policies (do they even have bathrooms?). The working conditions I dare say are likely, in many instances, to be worse than anybody but folks born in the 1800's & very early 1900's here in the US could imagine. Those conditions led the US to the labor unions; which, at that time, served a noble purpose that was unobtainable by one man asking for better conditions.

I bet we could get closer if it weren’t for sky high taxes taxes, over regulation, and sky rocketed insurance prices.

I work for a small oilfield service company. We pay $100,000 per year for insurance. We don’t manufacture but work downhole. Liability insurance is a bitch. Add in property tax, employment taxes, etc.

You missed the point of my post.

My fault for not being clear.

I acknowledge the playing field is not level.

Any regulation we saddle our business with foreign exporters should comply with.

If it matters here.........it matters there.

After all.......

China is water poor. It's one of the key motivators behind their drive to reduce population growth, and build massive dams to impound more fresh water.

No need to attack the people. Attack the water.

We're not militariarily going to attack China as we do not need to. However, I'm definetly (and have been for years) on the Fuck China team.

I think we'll see more tariffs on them as well as after the dust settles, things like travel restrictions that makes it a huge pain in the ass for anyone with a China passport to come here, additional cargo inspection requirments making it a total pain in the ass to ship things here (after paying a big tariff on it) thus backlogging their supply chain and weakening demand for it. This will steer the US based companies who are on the 'lowest price wins' mindset towards a better option as opposed to not being on board.

I think the bigger play here is to use the aftermath of this to begin the process of shifting manufacturing in China in part back to the US where the cost of making it here isn't pricing the consumer out, but moreso into making a 'developing economy' the new manufacturing hub and sourcing more from there over time, thus making China flail in the wind as we have a replacment for them. What can China do? Basically nothing; they need us WAY more than we need them. If their manufacturing market share goes to shit and instead is year by year replaced by a growing manufacturing hub in a place like Brasil , Ukraine or Mexico (double bonus here as we can send the illegals back for work/have something so they dont come here), they will absolutely implode without us firing a single shot.

Look at what its already done to them with just some tariffs from a guy who doesn't back down. It would also be awesome to have them in that position to then renegotiate some debt. Them lashing out in anger to this via attacks on Taiwan, Japan, etc would only ensure their demise that much faster.

This is the way. Don't fight them. Just send them to the unemployment line an inch at a time and watch them go bankrupt and have issues that make the Russian financial collapse look like a speedbump.

Yes manufacturing hubs can be moved.
I remember some “good deal” pipe fittings one time from my welding days.
They were stamped Made in Vietnam.
Scrapped half as the dimensions and fit up were absolutely horrid. But hey, if it gave them some jobs selling some shit to us after the fucked up things that went on there a few decades prior, good for them. Maybe there some people there that still actually like us.

Austria and Czech Republic were once like the Mecca of small arms production during the Mauser brothers day.

On another note. Since every other special interest group is bellowing for more special rights why not the manufacturers. No tax to move back.
States are already playing these games to land businesses. Just need it on a more federal level.

These companies have trained us to expect $10 shoes and $100 50" televisions.
There lies the crux.
People need those things cheaply when pinned down under half of there income tied up in taxes otherwise they couldn’t afford anything and there would be mutiny. Can’t keep control to enrich the few like that.
High tax at home and cheap crap from abroad to appease the masses is a symbiotic relationship. Gives the foreign powers more wealth and it’s kicked back to keep that wheel in motion.

Also makes it easier for special interests or representatives to launder it back into thier pockets when it’s sent all over to who knows where and siphoned back so the average people can’t track it and know the true score.
It’s a lot easier than say if it was all made in country and the everyday citizens watching and counting all of it daily.

Made in America just makes it harder to steal and be corrupt.

Tie that In with creating two income earners in the family.

Sure the family unit loses a stable at home caregiver but the govt gains twice the revenue.

That premise right there is a very interesting one. The book Elizabeth Warren wrote actually covered this. Too bad she felt the need to lie and sell out, she used to be an interesting person at least.

Oh, I agree completely. I was simply replying in the hypothetical to Maggot's question about the 'how'. As I elaborated, the real opponent is, and always has been Russia.

The oil price sag is a direct economic attack on this Nation. Saudi is piling on, but Russia is at the root core. Once this current patch is negotiated, the time will come to address the miscreants in this disaster. I hope they get their asses handed to them, Russia, Saudi, and yes, China.

The same conditions which germinated SEATO are with us again. It's also time for the NATO 'partners' to step up and do more than simply whining about the unfairness of their world.

It will be most interesting to see which side India will or will not come down on. I've often wondered about them as a genuine ally.

As long as the American consumer puts low prices above all else...China will be just fine.
times a changing, Folks that clamor for cheap don't understand so here's an explanation.
As soon as a plant opens up here and pays a decent wage, a gas station outside the plant opens up, then a fast food resturarant, then a bank chain, then a strip mall. Guess what, all are making more money as a result of the plant opening back up and paying a decent wage. If u make more money , u don't mind paying more for american made products. It's a chain reaction. Anybody that thinks this will go back to the way it was before this virus, is smoking the good stuff. TheGerman gets it , China woke the sleeping giant that's been asleep for some 50 years now and realize's he's working up a hunger. Their mistake, huge huge mistake
