Times are tough getting ammo and i have about 700 77smks sitting and more AR comp then i can handle. Going to have a little training day and wanted to load some up in lc brass. Anyone have a generic safe load i can throw together for work inside 75yrds? No time to "work up" a load.

If curious they will be shot from 10.3" lmt and dd 5.56 barrels and suppressed.

I use AR comp almost exclusively with .223. my standard 77smk load with lake City brass is 21.5 grains of ar-comp, case overall length is 2.250… or magazine length. Have used this load for years in my service rifle for CMP matches with good results. Very mild load with great accuracy.

    Have fun

Thanks bud. I'll give this a shot.

8208XBR will be the friend of your SBR.

Seek nirvana at just plus 23 grains and 2.25 OAL.

My bad had a good AR Comp load very serviceable but XBR was more appealing.

When I bought Comp it was a relatively new powder.....no info.

    I settled on 22.1 with a Nosler 77.

    16 inch LMT, CL, 1-7, 2.25

I loaded up about 80 of the 21.5gr as said above and well see how it hows tomorrow.

Im sure there is better stuff around but it's what i have. I know ive shoved more in a case so im pretty comfortable with 21.5g. Not that i need great accuracy with what I'm doing but i didn't wasnt to just throw something together and go cattywompus. Ill work something over when i have more time to experiment.

Appreciate the suggestions regardless, gives me crap to try later

AR Comp was a good powder for me you will find what you seek.

    Dont despair.

I was using WCC 18 brass.

Thanks for the load. 4moa red dot at 50 and i could cover a 30rd group with my thumb. Going to have to try this is other stuff!

This load gets about 2750fps out on my 20" service rifle barrels. At that speed it has been super accurate and consistent in my service rifles which see alot of rounds, mild and smooth cycling- definitely not the ragged edge of pressure. I've shot 10shot ~1moa groups off a sling with this load at 100yd reduced target matches.

Glad it worked out for you!!!

    Here's a good score

Low pressure is fine with me...a suppressed 10.5 is harsh and gassy enough lol. It cycled a h3 and jp enhanced polished spring unsuppressed no problem and locked back.

Just impressed its a stable enough load to work so easily in a completely different gun.

Agreed, the load seems to work well in all my .223 platforms- from my Tikka T3 varmint to my 16" BCM ar-15 authough i worked it up for my Service Rifle.

The load is well under max via the Alliant Reloaders guide, which published max @ 22.6gr. I could push it faster but why? Its accurate- foremost, makes it to the 600yd line no problem, and is easy on the rifle and brass.

This is also the powder charge I use with Hornady 75gr BTHP with great accuracy.

AR-Comp is very temperature stable- like Varget but I find it meters better because of smaller kernels. Easy to find for me, which makes it my preferred powder for .223 and .308, been using it for about 6 years now.
