Good luck finding ammo for that, or a smith with a reamer if the barrel ever does need replacement.

The guy struck me as someone who wanted confirmation of a bias. No other factors needed to be considered.

Been thinking about this, OP needs a lever action .44 magnum.

I think you would be happy with a 284 Winchester. Great bullet selection and good barrel life. It is my go to round for 1000 yards.

Honestly, some stuff is between more expensive up to almost double the price.
The cheapest AR15 you can get over here for example is about 1,000 Euro, that´s roundabout 1,100 Dollars.

The "which race car gets the best gas mileage" could be legit. I mean back in the day McLaren TAG-Porsche beat almost everybody even being down a lot in qualifying trim horsepower because they could run full power the entire race, whereas the Renaults and BMW would run out of gas if running anywhere near full boost. Same in most sports car racing where they've capped the fuel use and even F-1 today if they miscalculate burn rate.

My factory Tikka T3x Lite in 7 RemMag is probably at 1200 rounds and is still. Anywhere between 0.5-1moa depending on my load and my shooting abilities. I have the action in a Manners MCS T4 and its fantastic. I've been trying to justify replacing the factory barrel, but just can't.

Its all kind of funny. Back in the day (that would be the 1950’s and 1960’s, worrying about burning up a barrel was all the rage and the success of a product was dependent on how long the barrel would last. My guess is that the .22 Swift brought all of this on. But, the Swift was probably the only round that was ever shot enough by riflemen to actually damage a barrel. I doubt that the ammunition costs and the reason to be using a high powered rifle in the first place so limited use that barrel degradation in Real Time, Real Use ever occurred. (Hard as it may seem, limited reloading and cartridge costs of $4.95 for 20 were significant expenses in 1964.)
So, now we have people who really shoot a lot. It all really started with IHMSA and NRA Rifle Silhouette. One had to shoot a bit to be proficient. And, having to put 5 rounds down a barrel in less than 2 minutes and shoot 40 rounds on a hot day in an hour or less actually put some stress on a barrel. Now, we really shoot, shoot a lot. A hundred or more rounds per day. As I said, back in the day, many rifles never got shot a hundred times during the lifetime of the owner. AND we worried about burning out a barrel. We made purchases based on finding a rifle that would not burn a barrel out in 1500 rounds and then never shot it more than five times a year, for twenty years.
What a joke.
Barrels are truly like tires, if you don’t use them, they will probably rust away (as unused tires die from dry rot/UV destruction.) Yes, even stainless.
