Dear me. Just last week just knew I should have invested in like 100K rounds of 22LR; until today. Today I found out I should have invested in 100K rounds of 380. To be sold of course, to people who didn't even attempt to plan ahead. Like the people that think 200 rounds is an arsenal's supply of ammo (aka, democrats).

And I thought the 4x markup on Aguilla 22LR 40g, 5000 rounds, was funny. I just saw Winchester White Box 380 for 1000 rounds mind you $ 1659!!!!

It's actually become almost funny to go ammoseek.com and peruse through the "common" and even not so common ammo and see how much it is. The 380 is the highest multiplier I've seen though. I've also looked at oddball 32 S&W, 38 S&W, 32 NAA, 36-24-36, etc that I've never even seen in real life; yet, there it is - loud and proud of being 4-5x more expensive than before the riots.

I'm only complaining because there not a mutual fund named AMMO :). Supply and demand. Was talking to a gun store manager today and he said if Trump gets re-elected there will be "some availability" in 6 months, but normalcy will be 2-3 years AGAIN. One of their suppliers buys something like 100K rounds per week, and he cannot get anything. Hence, why I'm shooting the minimum I can to keep skills. Fortunately, after 2 months off for multiple reasons (115 deg heat index is one of them) I think my skills improved...not sure how, but not complaining.

I stepped into a new caliber recently, kind of foolishly at this time, but 45-70 was always fucking expensive. It's not like I'm stocking up for what's essentially an occasional fun gun/hunting rifle either, but $1.85/round is a tough pill to swallow for a rimmed straight wall. At least it hits so hard, I won't want to shoot it very long before I pick up the .22 again to remind myself shooting is actually relaxing.

That's about big enough, that you can load/create a "FLAK" round.

I’m fixing to get me a cowboy action in that caliber. Been wanting one awhile!

Sorry about your lack of “Gub’ment ammo. Yeah. Bad timing on new caliber. Obviously I was pointing to people who had guns and a box of ammo. 😀

Every time I look at Ammoseek I have the same thought..."Should of bought that shit yesterday."

From what I understand not only are sales skyrocketing, many of the munitions plants are slow because of the Chinese atttack.

Fuck the Chinese.

Shooting stout .45-70 from the bench to chrono is a work out, 405 gr @ 1850 fps.

My 1885 high wall likes a cast 405g pill over 13g of trail boss. Chrono shows 1035fps. Light recoil, barrel doesn't get hot and accurate enough to hit a 10" going at 300 yards more often than not with a peep sight.
Warning: never trust load data you read from some idiot on the internet. Verify it from your trusted source.

Modern (but still Marlin made) 22" Marlin 1895 for mine. Made it as a cheaper practice round that gets close to the Garrett 420 gr. +P.

Requires a modern made strong design, absolutely not a high volume use load.

I picked up a Henry H010B, just love the brass on a lever gun and it was something I always wanted. Definitely don’t need it, pure want this time.

Tell me about it...
I worked up a load years ago for a custom Siamese Mauser 98 consisting of a 405gr Remington jacketed SP over 59gr IMR 4895 for a MV of 2080 fps. Anymore, 3 rounds and I'm done. I'm down to less than 15 rounds of these heavy loads now and am considering salvaging the components and switching over to a much milder load I shoot in a Pedersoli Sharps, 405gr Laser Cast over 16gr Unique for a MV of 1375 fps from a 32" barrel.

some of you guys.....

you DO realize that those big pills with demolish whatever you’re shooting with it, at a much more tolerable, 1100 fps, right? unless you are shooting buffalo or brown bear...then i’d want to burn the extra powder.

in these times of components being hard to come by, something to think about.

i run a 44 lever sometimes. and i usually push my bullets along 1000-1100 fps and save the extra powder. and everything i’ve shot with it has died just as dead. easy to shoot, not so hard on supplies, and an effective killer.

Just a bit more work to that lever to make it a big bigger and more round and you'll be on your way to becoming The Rifleman :). Better be practicing your showmanship now!!! Gotta say, if I saw something doing The Rifleman thing, I'd be slightly intimidated. LOL.

I'd love to be that cool, but I'm sure I'd shoot out my eye, foot, hip, and truck in the process. My first Henry was a .22 Mag rifle with the standard loop, my big hands just don't fit well in it, but they're not too bad. Second was their small game carbine, again in .22 Mag, but had the large lever loop and I love it, hands now fit in gloves through the loop and it's what I consider field worthy for all conditions. For this one, the big loop was mandatory due to it being an elk gun for winter usage, as well as the heavier recoil won't be jarring my middle finger so much.

Understand, same reason I bought this one... Just wanted it.
Those look awesome, old + new in one. They're also sold out everywhere right now, so I went with beauty vs. the beast. That's okay though, I still want a handgun caliber version...

H4198 and RL7 work really well for me fwiw.
‘Damn sight cheaper to roll your own.

As a kid, I always wanted a 30-30. I grew up shotgun-centric as both Granddad and Dad were unbelievable shots with both shotgun and 22; especially Grandfather. Dad always told me...you don't want a 30-30. From a ballistics standpoint, he was 100% correct; but from a "cool" perspective that lever action Winchester still calls me - but not loud enough.

I fully intend on adding them to the other calibers I load. Buying a couple hundred factory loads just gives me the brass to do it with, I'll be keeping those light for fun, and run factory for hunting. Thanks for the powder suggestions.

That thing is beautiful, I’ve held one a handful
Of times but never bought. I think I will soon ( still can’t get it outta my mind. One time I ended up with a Rossi in 454casull but I have only ever shot .45 colt through it

Bought an 1885 HW about 15 years ago. Shoot about 20 rounds each year, clean it, reload the brass and wait for next year.
