What's the most stupid thing you've been told?

Overheard at the local cafe: "I have no problem hitting moose when they are on the run, but I struggle hitting them if they are standing still. That's why I always fire a warning shot to get them in high gear before taking one."

haha funny story about something like this. My little brothers first moose was at 150 on the run. Hit it first shot(back of lungs) reloaded and dumped it on the second (spine). When he walked up it was still trying to move, so he one handed pointed the gun at the head at less then 5 yards and missed.

Berger ballistics says a 155 amax needs a muzzle velocity of 4500fps.
True enough, but using the Warner Flatline 155 gr solids with a Doppler G7 BC of .297, you only have to push them to 2950 FPS to keep them supersonic to 1400 yards. 😉

My favorite lies are gunshow lies:

Dealer 1: “That M1 carbine there saw action in WW2! It’s a steal for $1,300!”

Me: “It’s a Universal.”

Dealer 2: “9mm browning court will work great in your Glocks and you can find it cuz no one knows that!”

Me: “That’s how you blow up your gun.”

Dealer 3: “That AR cost me over $2,000 to build!”

Me: “It’s literally chinesium and weighs 14 pounds.”

Dealer 4: “The Hi-Point makes a great truck gun!”

Me: “You’re right, for Felons.”

When picking up my new Henry at the lgs the other day I heard a guy I've never seen before tell a customer, "it's better to get a polymer gun than a steel gun for concealed carry because you can't really conceal a steel gun".
Let me guess. That same guy believes that the polymer gun cannot be seen on an airport x-ray too.

Gee! I wonder why I never got arrested for carrying my commander sized 1911 in my conceal carry holster (under my shirt) in areas where “Open” carry is not legal?

Possibly, he was trying to change a person from a 229 to a glock 19 for ccw.

Sig 229 weight unloaded- 34.4Oz
Sig 229 height- 5.4 in

Glock 19 weight unloaded- 21.5 Oz.
Glock 19 loaded- 31.16 oz
Glock 19 height 5.04 in

The polymer Glock 19 is lighter, fully loaded, than the empty 229 Nitron. Additionally, the Glock 19 is a bit shorter in height, making it a bit easier to conceal as this dimension plays a larger part in concealability than overall length. Then again, a man of sufficient breadth and/or depth can conceal just about anything...

I mean, I can conceal a 226 RX most of the year lol

That guy would be amazed at what some women are packing around on their bodies these days. My wife, who is not a big woman at all, has a belly band rig that she wears and is carrying either a S&W model 66 combat magnum (with .357s) or a Glock 23 (.40 S&W) and she can shoot either one proficiently. She made the comment the other day that she hopes she doesn't have to deal with any ANTIFA/BLM pukes. I replied to her that they better be the ones hoping she doesn't.

My neighbor was going on and on about 308 and how most people think it's only effective out to 800 yards for killing but they're wrong, him and his fellow marines were making kills at up to 1600 yards with it. 🤦‍♂️
I won't say you couldn't hit at 1600 yards. The longest recorded kill was 1200 yards with application of Kentucky windage to the scope being maxed out. The shooter also says there was an element of luck as he was hoping for suppressive fire. It could be farther by now.

- I immediately disqualify anything a cop, .mil, Range Officer, or anyone with an NRA membership says. They're the worst sources of information until thoroughly proven otherwise. I shoot USPSA with a retired police firearms instructor and the things I've seen at the range... if you can't disassemble an AR I'm more than slightly worried.

- Women seem to fall into two wonderful groups. They either have a pink Ruger LCP in a nylon holster that they intend to carry in their purse, and have no confidence in this setup and never practice. Or, they shoot 15,000 rounds a year through their carry gun.

You can definitely hit at 1600 with the right ammo. The scope elevation on my .308 gun plays out at about 1800 shooting 185 Berger Juggernauts . The real problem is the wind. And, if the best round the "marines" have access to is the M118LR, then it won't make it with any degree of stability.

Uhm...I’m a senior lifetime member of the NRA and would be happy to shoot against you in most categories of competition. I may not beat you in all of them, but I assure you that I can break down or field clean all my weapons. Be careful not to lump all people in the same dump truck. You might be shown as being arrogant in your own abilities.

True enough. I’m sure that the term “Fudd” was coined to capture the essence of the average NRA member.

I , however, see what the NRA does everyday to support the safe training of the next generation of gun owners and cannot find fault with their spot in this fight (all politics aside).

"Why'd you spend all that money on a custom rifle? My Savage 6.5 creedmoor has over 5000 rounds down it and still shoots 1/4MOA groups I have all the cases of ammo I've shot through it too prove it." Then proceeds to tell me he doesn't trust gunsmiths to work on his rifle hence why he prefers savage barrel nut system.

............ goes back to continue shooting and he proceeds to shoot and miss every shot he took at the 10" and 12" steel at 300 and 400 yard.

The NRA does everything in its power to make the next generation afraid of guns with terrible training regimens and unnecessary doses of fear in the great name of safety, while stabbing gun owners in the back. I stand by my comment. Fuck the NRA. Thousands of outstanding shooters are NRA members, and thousands of people who really understand what firearms are for are NRA members, and they are the exception to the rule created by the majority of the NRA's membership.

I understand what you are saying and appreciate your concerns, but by me there is no teaching of fear, only teaching of fun in a safe manner. I’m sorry that you had a nurse ratchet experience, but that is not the normal experience of an impressionable young person when applied by a person that understands what young ones need and appreciate while learning about firearms .

Please show us on the doll where the mean NRA touched you.

Mr. NRA Man touched me in the 922(R).

So YOU’RE the guy that recommended the pink Ruger LCP in an Uncle Mike’s.....

;)
I'd get in trouble for telling people they were stupid and to leave lmao

And half of them were coworkers who "knew about guns" from call of doody

This

a routine conceal carry check (required in Louisiana when approached by an officer of the law)

God what a retarded law

That's pretty retarded alright. In Texas, the instant they run your license plate, they know if you have a CC/LTC permit.

Same in Ohio. Obviously the car has to be registered in your name. If I re-register my cars under my wife's name, they won't know.

What is just as bad is if a CHL holder loans his/her car to another without telling them that they have a CHL and the driver doesn't have a CHL.

So when the driver is stopped the conversation goes something like this.

Driver: Hello officer, I guess I was going a little fast, wasn't I?

Officer: Yes sir. Isn't there something else that you have to tell me?

Driver: I'm not sure what you're getting at.

Officer: Don't you know what your supposed to tell me when I stop you?

Driver: Uhmmm? Well..? I'm sorry for driving too fast???

Officer: Let's just keep this professional and try not to play games with me. Okay? So everyone knows by now what there supposed to tell a cop when they stop him.

Driver: Sir, I'm not trying to play games with you.

Officer: How long have you lived in this state?

Driver: All my life.

Officer: Then you ought to know what you are supposed to say if a cop stops you during a traffic stop.

Driver: Can I phone a friend? Can I buy tickets to your spaghetti dinner? Do you know who I am? Can you just let me out of a ticket...just this one time?

Officer: Step out of the car and put your hands behind your back...

And in all that time he didn't notice the name on the registration and the name on the license were different. 🤪

I think every time I got pulled over in moms car as a teenager, I was asked why doesn't the name on your license match the name on the registration?

Back before there were any concealed carry licensing laws, I packed iron all the time. So I never informed the officer that I was armed.

What he didn't know didn't hurt him. I kept things polite and professional. I never thanked a cop for the ticket but always thanked them for their courtesy and told them to have a nice day.

I couldn't complain about at ticket because I was guilty of speeding.

And you know what happened? Both of us went home at the end of the day without shooting each other.

There's a couple of issues with that theory
  • Informing police about you having a concealed handgun on your person is not the law in every state
  • In the states where it is required by law to inform (like mine), the duty is to inform that you are carrying a concealed handgun. Not that you have a license to carry one.
  • Police know that the registered owner is not always the driver.
  • Police aren't going to beat around the bush on this subject. They're going to ask very soon if they think you should have informed.
It's happened to me. I got pulled over one day when I was not carrying, so I didn't say anything since legally there was no duty to inform. The trooper asked why I didn't inform her that I was carrying a handgun and I told her that I didn't say anything because I wasn't carrying anything. She said OK and went on about the rest of the stop.

All the cars in my household, including the ones driven by my wife and daughter, are registered to me. It should be obvious to anyone that neither of them are me because I am a man and they are both women.

True. However, there are some cops that don't have any common sense.

I remember that. The dick-head Harliss was allowed to retire with benefits. However, the driver sued him and the department in federal court.

If I recall correctly, they settled out of court.

This is the problem with qualified immunity. It has to go. This is another reason why the nomination of ACB is so important. Read the article below on what she thinks of qualified immunity. These cock-suckers need to lose every dime they have in their accounts, their retirement, their homes, their kids college funds and their freedom.

I'd like to see dick-head Harliss get the same treatment in a traffic stop and see how he feels.

Harliss deserves to be ambushed and beaten to within an inch of his life. Let's see how tough he really is without the badge.

His worst nightmare would be to wake up in a prison cell and have an amorous inmate the size of Andre The Giant standing over him and all the security cameras are turned off. If he screams, it will only make it worse.

Was at Cabelas the other day just killing time. I should know better not to go there right before hunting season. Glorious amount of clueless individuals wandering around the gun counter looking for the setup that will help them bag a deer. One conversation caught my attention.

A guy was talking about how his gun was not sighted in and didn't know how to do it. The guy behind the counter told him that if he brings it in and gets it boresighted, he'd be able to take a deer out to 500 yards no problem right out of the store. No need to actually take it to the range.
