Rifle Scopes Ior recon 4-28x50..... reviews? Probs?

Also, as I said in my original post, the OP’s pattern of posts here recently which led to his recent discovery of the perfect scope to fit his bill is a bit too suspicious to me. Call me cynical, but hey, I’ve been wrong before. Also, in that price range, it’s ridiculous to buy a scope with such a terrible reputation when there are so many fantastic options unless you’re just one of those folks that absolutely has to go against the grain. Either way, it’s your/his money, do with it what you will. I just feel bad for the poor honest suckers that get roped in to one of those.
I hadnt notice that till you mentioned it.... In all seriousness I do appreciate that you guys chimed in. I used his thread to accomplish what I wanted. Ive had a couple IOR recon (not the LOW G2) and really like them. I had one go bad. But Ive had other quality gear go bad too. CS was good so Im a happy customer. (I am from canada though so different dealer) Im currently shopping for another optic. The new IOR was on my list. I have a Minox LR I kinda like it Ive played with the USO not bad Minox ZP5 I like it. But i dont know anyone with a ZCO or TT that i can look at and thats a expensive buy to try. Most of the IOR threads on here go to shit fast and I understand why. You guys gave your experience not just yada yada. IOR is not on the list now.
Cheers

Man, 40 posts to ask about the perfect 3-30. Then asking about other portions of the scope just trying to “learn”. Then, magically, after never hearing about it before today, you find the exact perfect example of everything you are looking for.

Wow. This is magical and you should be so excited. Buy one immediately and then end this thread. Come back in 30 days or so and give us your amazing and completely unbiased review. I’ll be the next in line to get one along with hundreds of others here!! You’ve basically dethroned ZCO and TT already. Well done.

Your not as bright as you think you are and yep being wrong your good at as you admit you are.i wasn'tsent by anyone. Is it a crime not to know about every scope out there? Don't understand why the shit u give me and act like I don't know anything. I'm learning about good glass by asking questions. Dealing with pieces of shit like you shouldn't be tolerated on this message board for if novices get treated like that, they won't support the group long

I know. I hope to see one sometime at the last match in Ottawa apparently a couple guys had them but I was not able to make it there. The other thing is I can buy 2 Minox for the same money so it will have to impress for me to get one.
It seems like you guys have more top end floating around. Most common high end at a match around here is Kahles, Razor, Nightforce. USO is starting to show up more this year.

Unlike you, I never attacked anyone personally. I just called out what seemed sketchy and has happened before. Thanks for letting me know how terrible I am and what a dullard I am. Good luck with the IOR!

I laugh every time an IOR thread gets posted on here. 90% of the post are from people that have never owned or even used the product.
Yes, It's true. IOR has made some real turds in the past, and their CS isn't as good as it should be from what I've heard. If you don't like IOR, then don't buy one.
I've had a Recon for 3 1/2 years, and it has been a great scope. It tracks well, the glass is nice, I like the reticle, and have never had CA issues. I've got a S&B PM II 5-25, Revic PMR428, Swarovski Habicht 4-16, Athlon Cronus, that the Recon compares to really well.

I don't know of anyone that has ever posted on any forum of the IOR Recon scope failing or breaking. If you hate IOR because of their past failures, I guess you don't own a car either because every brand has built shit that always breaks down.

Posted on HERE is the key word. On HERE you have the largest concentration on the internet of guys who know their shit.

Not saying that there aren't guy's that " Know Their Shit", but a lot just have opinions. I've been hunting and shooting for over 45 years, so I'm not new at it.
I won't tell anyone how to spend their money. Colt and Remington have been making shit products for years, yet people still buy them.

I’m just saying, of all the Internet forums out there, this is the one where you definitely should not stick up for IOR.

That is not good. If to be on the hide requires that you talk shit on IOR, USO, Savage then you no longer leave room for a company to improve or for hide members to learn more. 8-10 years ago milwaukee tools were not worth buying a dewalt was tops now today I buy milwaukee for my guys and dont bother with yellow.
Dont create a communist hide were we all have to think a specific way let capitalism rule then we all learn and have room to improve.

Please quit screaming communism on a technical forum post. I think you're reading way too much into that reply.

Just because the majority here disagree with your view on IOR, does not mean crying "communism" is warranted. Perhaps the Recon is a bird of another feather, but it still has to distinguish itself from the flock at this time. A flock full of turds.

You have to admit, the guy flat out told him "do not defend IOR here".
If that isn't authoritarian group think, I don't know what is.

I see your point, but read it as “This site has a gathering of the most knowledge on the internet, so when they say ‘don’t defend IOR here’ it isn’t group think, rather a lot of assembled knowledge”.

“Group think” isn’t just anything thought by a large group, but rather, erroneous thoughts perpetuated because a large group thinks it’s true. Here, we have many with ACTUAL experience in owning or seeing these scopes fail.

A nuanced difference, but a difference nonetheless.

But, it smacks of "don't contradict our belief" when folks that HAVE used them, report that they have no issues with them. Of course, the individual sample size is small, but it is not invalid.
I have one, works great (at the time, there were few FFP options). I wouldn't buy another as there are too many good, Japanese made scopes available for a far better price, with better, morte reliable customer service.
I don't bother talking about my experience, because it's like talking to a brick wall. I also didn't run it hard like lots of folks here run their equipment. maybe that's why mine didn't fail.

Ill say this. Ive looked into IOR a number of times over the years. They have the same trash reputation now they had 15 years ago.
Theres companies that have bad stretches. Go thru changes.
But its another thing altogether to maintain a horrible reputation over a long period of time.
Sometimes when enough people are saying the same thing, theres some truth to it.
Try to Find a person talking bad about TT. Find a person talking about their bad experiences w/ ZCO.
You dont have to look very far to find people unhappy with IOR.
Im relatively new here. Vast majority of the bashing of IOR Ive found wasnt even on this site.
Ior Hate is not exclusive to Snipershide.

Easy with the “communist” talk, buddy. A free exchange of ideas includes negative ones. The Hide is also a bad place to say “Wow you know, gun control sure is a great idea”, does that make it communist? No, it means there is a general consensus in this community that gun control is a shitty idea.

Do a little search around the Hide and find out the real reasons for the hostility toward IOR/Val, including firsthand experience from the the HMFIC and some of the most qualified people on here.

This goes way beyond a few bum scopes and bad CS anecdotes.

If you’re going to quote me, don’t twist my words. I said:3D38A7A8-4F3B-423A-8C35-B98E6D635083.jpeg

I have no authority on this forum, and I don’t really know any other forum members outside of this page. I’m just a random dude who likes to read and comment occasionally. That’s what you call authoritarian groupthink?

I was trying to help by advising someone against making stupid comments that would get him dogpiled. By guys who are ALSO trying to help a guy not waste his hard-earned money. But yeah, fuckin’ commies, all of us.

Stay calm I agree with you. A free exchange of the negitive and positive is good. One of the reasons I finally decided to join the hide after lurking for years now.

I understand why the val part is a issue if I was down there i wouldn't buy either. I might not even up here. I have had 3 IOR Recons I have 1 left as it suits its use case well I like it so I have some positive to say.

I also agree that I am just one guy in the mix so I come over to the Hide looking for others experience. With some topics there is more shit to sort through then others but underneath there is a lot of experience and I value that.

I've been told a few horror stories from former owners of IOR scopes.
Glass is good, but it seems to be the internal mechanism that is prone to failure.
Really, that's what we look for isn't it?
Best glass in world is useless, if you cannot adjust and return repeatedly and reliably.

I have 2 original recon (4-28 x50) for many years and a 3.5 -18 x 50. Never had a issue with any of them.
I know guys on here don't like them. But they are extremely popular in europe. That is probably a result of pricing. No import duty over there.

As has been noted, positive reports are not allowed.
Take it back!!!

it's quite simple here; IOR scopes are bashed here because they didnt pay money for shilling their scopes, like others do.

Perhaps we should find some way of putting in some filter that as soon as someone tries to start a new IOR or Valdada thread it reaches through their screen and gives them a smack upside the head.

What other high end optics companies have payed to have their products shilled here, and who did they pay to do the shilling?

I have a Recon. The parallax adjustment broke. The scope was replaced after a couple weeks and a couple of phone calls. Both scopes tracked true. I bought the scope based on features, size, and weight. I have 2 PMIIs. There are things that I prefer on the Recon, but it’s just not near as well put together as a S&Bs.

I have been a lurker here for about ten years, but this is my first post. Some of the reason for that is the hostility so please be gentile. I'm no expert, but I do have some personal experience that might be informative to some on this subject of IOR scopes. I purchased one several years ago from Liberty Optics. It is a 6-24x50 MOA with a 34mm tube and MP 8 Illuminated reticle. After I got it I was quite pleased with it, so I spent several days putting an FDE Cerakote finish on it which turned out perfect. A few months later the parallax adjustment dial started to bind and then would not work at all. I contacted IOR and didn't get a response. So then I called the gentleman at Liberty Optics and he said he would take care of it for me and he had me a new scope very quickly. I'm not sure how it would have worked out if I had bought it elsewhere. Of course, I lost my Cerakote job in the process but I guess that couldn't be helped. I still have the scope and I have had no more issues to date. I like it and I hope it keeps working because what I have seen here worries me as far as reliability goes.

Welcome!

One thing to note is that @LibertyOptics is still around and still a great Hide resource. Liberty optics no longer carries IOR at least according to their website. They are the go to best price dealer for Vortex and just finished a great Veterans day sale. Had a work buddy buy something from them.

Nothing wrong with keeping a scope that you bought years ago around as long as it still works for your purposes. I bought a leupold mark 4 3-9x40 sfp mil dot reticle with moa turrets. Never again. Relegated to a 22 and going to be replaced one day.

Would you likely buy another? Sounds not likely. What most here are saying is that there are much better options that are cheaper and more reliable with better CS. They are steering people to better places to spend their hard earned money.

You had great CS from Liberty. Would you buy from them again? I'm guessing yes. Why? They are good people who helped fix a crappy situation when they likely didn't have to. They chose to.

.

Thanks for the welcome sir.
You are correct in all you said. Liberty is absolutely wonderful to deal with and I would and probably will buy from them again. You are also correct that I would not drop that kind of money on another IOR. Today much more so than even a few years ago when I bought this scope there are many choices where you no longer to worry about it after the purchase.

Never heard of this scope prior to today. Looking for a 3-30 ish ffp scope with LOTS of low magnification f.o.v. for hunting.

Never heard of this scope prior to today. I've looked back to see if people had problems and like 7 years ago seemed like they did.

I currently have a nightforce nx8 and I love it, just looking to see what else is available

I just spent $6600.00 CAD on a g2 and a ior ranger with caps and mounts. From what I gather from this thread I guess I’ll just throw them in the trash and buy a vortex razor for $3000.00. Hope the windage turret doesn’t fall of my razor like it did on my pst. Or have the reticle canted like on my replacement pst. Or I could pay $1400 more per scope for an atacr. Tough out there, hope I can compete looking through garbage glass in a 40mm trash can. I’ll let you guys know when they fall apart and Val ghosts me. That vortex warranty was such a pleasure to use.

For that cost you could've gotten a Tangent Theta.

Which means someone or some people are saying it’s better than the supposed best. How?

For that cost you could've gotten a Tangent Theta.
No no. I paid 6600 for an ior ranger 3-25x56 40mm tube and a g2 valdada 4.8-30x56 with rings and threaded caps. Not 6600 for 1 scope.
For that cost you could've gotten a Tangent Theta.
