Go to online store for ammunition?

LG Outdoors, their inventory changes daily so a good chance to catch something if lucky. Palmetto State as well.

Checked out both Palmetto and LG....tons of ammo at great prices but no 6.5cm ammo. Why is it that almost every caliber is unavailable online but you can get a box or two in the store for $50?? Are the manufacturers being hit hard by restrictions?

Went looking on your behalf today BigBlastin.
Walmart had 1 box of Federal 130 gr 6.5 CM at $1.80 per round. I realize that doesn’t help you but it means Federal is making it, as the supply chain for ammo is very short, so it’s likely Federal just made a run of 130gr 6.5 CM and put it in nationwide distribution.

I've had luck with stock at BulkAmmo, but I've only been looking for 9mm and 6.5 Grendel and they only had Wolf Grendel ammo...but it was cheap. GrabAGun has some interesting stuff too.

Light at the end of the tunnel?

I’m starting to notice some in-store ammo in places that had -0- before. Not a lot but some.
Also see more gun manufacturers showing(small) available stock.
Anyone else?

Feel like I hit the lottery today...tons in stock at Academy and Cabela’s. Still limited on purchase quantities, but it’s nice to not eat into the reserves just to go to the range. Hope it’s supply catching up to demand, but suspect it’s all the manufacturers and wholesalers emptying the warehouses before the Christmas break.

not complaining; today’s score:

i-Gcr2DvK.jpg

the 500-rd box of 5.56 was actually from last Friday...definitely sensing a trend!

Like a lot of people here, TargetSportsusa.com, which is why they seem to have zero stock anymore lol. I use Ammoseek quite a bit too.

Ammoseek for price checking,

Always had good pricing at targetsportsusa for most ammo.

Sgammo for 7.62x39 though their sister site AmmoEmpire could sometimes be just a hair cheaper due to free shipping.

Ammoman never seemed to be the cheapest prices when I would look.

I like Silver Bear .223 SP ammo and J&G was usually my source.

With ammo prices like they are, has anyone started using custom loaded ammo?

For example, I haven't seen .270 Win (factory, 150 grain, Remington) for less than $50 on Gunbroker for a while and it's totally sold out most other places. At that price I could just order some custom loaded rounds and get a good bit better quality control.

sgammo has been great - fast shipping.
I've bought from Gorilla ammo and Idaho Ordnance, as well. Just have not shot any of it yet.

sgammo has some 308 and 338 in stock.

finfeatherfur.com has 556 and 300winmag. (they are quick shippers, too).

Arrived today. Not horrible turn around and it is reloaded but looks clean and ready to go. 62 gr xm855

can’t promise anyone the discount but it was about 20.80 per 20. Can’t say how long it will last either. Everything else I have snagged on line was either here or from Prime.

What ammo shortage? Today’s score without even trying hard:

i-TvF9zpM.jpg

just kidding... Went to Academy as soon as they opened and was about #100 (!) in the line to get in the store...scored the 5.56 there. On a whim also drove the additional 10 miles or so over to Cabela’s and hit the jackpot. Tons of almost everything in stock, including bulk packs. Limit of 1 on anything >250 rds though. Still a ton remaining when I left, but the word had obviously gone out because the line was building fast.

Better to be lucky than good.

Normal prices on everything, but still ~ 10-30% higher than in 2019.

Academy: 60 rds 62 gr M855 green tip @ $11.99/20 rds

Cabela’s:
150 rds of 230gr .45ACP @ $54.99/100 before 5% military discount
200 rds of 95gr .380 ACP @ $19.99/50 before the discount
100 rds of 124gr 9mm @ $19.99/50 before the discount
1K rds 115gr 9mm @ $299.99/1,000 before the discount

Guess who’s going to the range mañana! 🤩

Edit: I should be happy, so why does the idea of going to shoot up some of my stash make me feel like this for some reason?

Target Prime,
Wow that was fast got notified at 2:02 and was sold out at 2:05, must have had one box of 20 for sale.
WTF why bother sending me a notification, good thing I started reloading, oh fuck primers!

Holy crap. I just bought a 200 rd case of Berger 6cm on Brownells. Paid $2.34 a rd but I didn’t know it was possible.

As long as they send it some day its like money in the bank...or better! Bought 147 subs for 16 cents a round, by the time they send em they will be worth $1.00 a round.

Thanks @OldSalty2 I bailed. Chickened out. Brownells had some 6cm 200 rd cases so I bought it. Not the cheapest but reliable. Off the hook for now.

I setup a browser plugin to watch for changes. PV gave me an alarm with max 2min delay.. I immediately tried to get some primers but were actually gone before I could check out. I think people are even using bots to do the checkouts.

You guys remember the Obama years, same stuff all over again (maybe a bit higher :)). One bitcoin = one box of 9mm!

Prices will never be as low again as they were 18 months ago.... or as plentiful.

But the same thing holds true for anything else we want to buy also.

Pretty amazing yesterday I was on TargetSports USA looking for some 22mag and 45acp for a buddy. Have membership, card on file....email comes in for CCI SV 22lr and time stamp not lagged on the minute. Boom instantly go and drop 2 each 500 round boxes in cart....site says 99+ available for both 500 bricks and 99+ 5000 bricks. Click 'Check out'.....literally 15-20 seconds has gone by. All sold out. Something seems awfully odd about that I guess it's possible that many people were online at the same time as me and bought all of it in under a minute? Seems like I may have been competing with these *bots* I have read about. It used to take 15 minutes or so for any given ammo to sell out and now it's down to under a minute? Either way my membership is up for renewal next month anyway so cancelled it there is no value in it *for me* to pay $100 bucks if I can't secure an order in under a minute when I'm literally on the web site already. Madness. What's even more nuts is that is only competing with membership folks b/c they don't push ammo sales out to non-members until 3 hours has passed. Oh well.....it do what it be. I'm sure a ton of the CCI will be for sale on GunBroker by next week.

I'm not a computer expert but I think some people may have their system set up so that as soon as they get the email alert or that it appears in stock on the merchant's website the transaction occurs automatically. No human interaction required.

There's a special place in hell for people like that but must admit that I wished I knew how to do that.

The presence of polite company prevents me from describing what I'd like to do to the jerks that buy ammunition by the pallet load to resell at the gun shows with a 600% markup.

Yea above my pay grade I've only read about it, but whatever the case I've grown tired of participating in factory/reloading component searches. To the point I went to hit golf balls last night and am playing this weekend I put the game up in 2009....felt good to hit some balls. I love to shoot, but not enough to keep frustrating myself I've got plenty of work to keep me busy. Buddy picked up a new offshore rig over the winter so we can make the trip to the middle grounds super quick.....and went to hit golf balls last night. Could be a lot of fishing and golf this summer!

I hope a lot of people think like you. Ranges should be empty for me this summer.

Yea I would have to think most don't think like me so I'd not get hopes up for empty ranges more like flooded. I've got a ton of other things I like doing so just do what's available....if ammo runs dry on me it's off to fish! Got about 5 months of primers/powder/pills left......hoping for the best. All my alerts set up on midsouth, midway etc......have come as close to getting stuff into cart, but getting order done is quite a trick!

I hear ya, it’s a blessed thing having multiple outlets other than just shooting sports. I never liked shooting at ranges but the last few months I’ve gone they have been nearly empty. I’m pretty excited to shoot again for the first time in years because of this. Figure once I use up my pre Obama era compononents I’ll be like you pursuing other parallel interests, but I’m hoping by then stuff will be available at least. Probably wishful thinking on my part.

That's great run it while you can! It's not fun for me to drive 2 hours round trip and shoot.....20 rounds? So I'm just keeping up my normal pace and if I run dry so be it I will be right back in the thick of it when I can source stuff. Dad is taking up golf again his knees have played about all the tennis they can take after 3rd knee fixn so that is pulling me that direction.....just different seasons of life. He loves to shoot too, but he is seeing the writing on the wall he's down to maybe 900 rounds of subs. And maybe we get lucky and this normalizes and we keep shooting a ton, but if not we will stay busy elsewhere. This ATL shooting is only going to exacerbate said issues though.

Anyone ever consider that a liberal 'gun control' tactic might be to press certain chemical and metal manufacturers to not produce raw materials needed by the ammo manufacturers? To those saying it's great that the ranges will be empty I say this. How did it work out for many restaurants when their sales were cut by 80%? They went out of business. Federal and others are blowing smoke when they say they are manufacturing around the clock. All I see is the occasional item pop up on the sites I check several times a day every day however go to Gun Broker and there I see a $40 1000 case of primers for $250. I haven't seen primers online anywhere else for 6 months. Try to find clay shells for sale.

This is gun control from a different perspective. You don't need to do anything about guns when people can't find anything to load them with. How did the US stop Germany's mighty Tigers in WWII? They cut off the supply lines and they ran out of gas.

Telling everyone that the reason we can't find ammo is because 'they' are all hoarding it sure sounds a lot like Covid. You can't verify any of it.

Certainly is good for "our" sport.
Every friend I have is trying to buy an of the shelf “precision” bolt gun right now for some reason. They all want to get into precision shooting and want me to help them find a 6.5 Seems around here the interest is higher than ever currently. The guys shooting comps and stuff likely won’t slow down imo. They knew to get ammo and components years in advance, this isn’t their first election cycle. Sorry if I came across wrong, but I am legitimately enjoying the ranges not being packed again.

Some shooters laugh at them but a good quality air rifle can be a lot of fun to shoot.

When the foreign born biracial Marxist was in the White House for eight years, I got really good at tuning spring powered air rifles. Once they are tuned and find the right pellet, you will be amazed at what they can do.

I use golf balls for targets for my rimfire rifles but don’t use them for air guns because the pellets will bounce off and fly back at the shooter.

Agreed however guys like me with stored components aren't the bread and butter of the ranges. My club counts on membership to pay the range officers, groom the ranges, etc. If people can't get ammo except for those of us who took action the memberships stop getting renewed and the range goes out of business. What I do see in my state are lots of places popping up where newbies go there and pay $150 for two boxes of ammo they are not allowed to leave with to shoot in a rented AR at 50 yards indoors. The places are like Disneyworld and seem to have no shortage whatsoever. Say you are new to this and buy a 6.5. What are you going to feed it with?

You want this to survive you have to keep the regular ranges busy. Simple economics.

Same for ammo. If they can sell 5.56 at one of these new style ranges for $5.00 a round you think we are going to see $0.30 a round sitting on the shelf for us again? Not likely.

We are getting bent over by tactics folks.

I've heard fun stuff about them as well, but I'm pretty addicted to the ELR world at present so while I enjoy all disciplines I'll probably just take a breather if it gets to that and play some golf with pops and load up the freezer with fish. Also do golf balls with 22's how much fun is that?? Hanging on string off furring strips....buddy made neat little stand. Such a hoot.

I did that with the furring strips as well. Shooting golf balls at 100 yards with a rimfire is the most fun you could have with your pants on.

The spring powered air rifles aren’t as accurate at that distance compared to a rimfire. So I shoot at soup cans with the air rifles. On a calm day, I can hit them about 75% of the time.

My buddy has an app on his phone that is like a little robot app and he gets alerts when anything comes in stock. I am sure he just puts in what he is looking for. But he was sending me messages on 3 different products when they came in. Lapua lrp brass, h4350, and eld-x/m. I was able to get all the stuff I needed.

Any idea on the App? Is that something you can share?
