178gr ELD-X Load Data FINAL TESTING W/ VARGET 6-29

@nvrpc1, you are looking at Service Rifle data. It is for M14/M1A that are limited due to the operating rod system. Try the non Service Rifle data a few pages before.

Hodgdon also has data for IMR-4064.
This data came off this forum somewhere. I do not have
Bearing length certainly matters, but it’s not an input variable in QL so far as I can tell. I’m not sure what needs to be tweaked in QL to model that, but it’s something to play with anyway.

Seating depth/COL is an input with easily identified secondary effects though, even shooting the same bullet.

My point was that @nvrpc1 cannot expect different bullets with different effective seating depths (or bearing surfaces) to use the same powder charge.

When I did a search for this software it says its from the UK. Is this the one or is there a US version I should be looking for. Have to be really careful in todays world especially after I see this - https://abcnews.go.com/Technology/w...fornia-victim-nationwide-hack-attack-76847800 and got an e-mail saying there 300 more organization on the hit list. Please advise
Yep and it only comes on cd-rom.

The Wikipedia article on QuickLoad is actually a pretty decent primer - a fair discussion of how it works and some of the limitations.

Plenty of folks running heavies hard (as @ubettcha noted). Worth noting that "safe in my rifle" and "within SAAMI pressure spec" are not the same thing ;-).

I watched a YouTube video of a gent vlogging his loading for an F/TR comp w/ 200.20X Bergers. You might find that, and some of the others in the series, interesting:

You gotta be a little bit of a dork to enjoy watching this stuff, but if this crowd can't appreciate it, no one can!

Well, one thing I will tell you is this. I cannot and not ever will have the money to invest in the equipment alone no longer the gun this dude has. I am left with a stock off the shelf rifle, factory ammo and I must be able to hit what I need to hit at 1000 yards and have a clean kill every time. This is similar to what all military and LE snipers / marksman must do too. That is all I am asking for. I have no desire what so ever to try and get into F class shooting if for no other reason that cost. This to me is reserved for people who can afford 10,000 sq foot homes, have garners and drive porches spiders and lambo's and where money is no object. I looked up the price of that annealer along and I will tell you that to me is unaffordable and a torch will not accomplish what this machine does properly. This should be seen by everyone who has a wet dream of competing against the folks. It's like a pro-stock again a funny car. Thanks for making sure I understood my place in life and making me come back to reality
GBPSE...

And for the record, I have a gardener, drive a coupe autocross car when I decide to take her out of the garage on the weekends, and the owner of this site drives a Porsche.

What someone spends on gear (reloading or otherwise) has little to with how well they shoot. A point your statement implies you missed...but by all means, revel in being poor if that's your thing.

Im actually in a 2004 Buick century after the 1997 Jeep’s ice storm wreck but that’s besides the point.
I put my money into good shooting and reloading gear because that’s what I enjoy and value. I don’t spend money on much of anything else. I probably spend as much on shooting as anything else other than rent.

Nvrpc1, point being: I’m not rich and you don’t have to be. If you care about shooting you’ll make it work.

What I will never understand is why people jump into one of the most expensive segments of the shooting sports and get angry at the thought of having to spend not only money but more importantly time and effort in order to obtain good results.

When someone is already balking at the idea of actually working up a load to obtain sub-moa ammo for your equipment, the likelihood of them achieving a 1000yd goal is greatly diminished.

It takes like what? 50rds at most to work up a generic sub-moa load. It's also not like you're just blasting away wasting ammo while testing these loads, you're practicing marksmanship while doing so. Something that also requires time, effort and money to be proficient at. You're probably better off exiting this segment since the cost to become proficient at long range precision shooting under various environmental conditions would far exceed your budget.

I...uh...wow...that took a turn. I post a video to provide some educational info to a guy that professes to be looking for such and...he takes it as a personal affront (attack?). I signed up for my first F-class match this month. I'm not going to be competitive and I don't particularly care. I expect I'll meet some great people and learn a LOT. I will be a better shooter for it...and that's the point.

I will drive either a Jeep or a VW to and from said competition ;-).

Reading his initial, unedited posts, showed that he knew he stepped in it, and then decided to leave.

A pity really, as he did have some valid points within his post. They were just not in the right context.

No dude, I just don't like jerks who brag about how rich they are and then give people shit for not being up to what they call on par with them. It's a rich man's sport and that's all there is to it and since I'm not rich like you and your buddies I am not in the club and never will be simply because I chose not to hang around people who do this and will drop them like a hot potato which is exactly what I have done here. Have a good day. There are plenty of none rich nice people to talk to.

Not quite gone, it seems...

Look on the bright side - you might not be affluent, but you oughta be strong as hell carrying around that chip on your shoulder.

@color_me_gone - can't be that hard to delete your account, can it? Maybe take your browser and point it somewhere other than the hide?

Anyway, thanks mate. Aside from the travel, it's been a pretty solid day.

Feel free to swing by www.ballisticstudies.com - some book/reference materials there that might be to your taste as far as getting a "working man's" precision rig going.

Bringing this back to life I tried 44 grains of varget with the 178s yesterday with no pressure signs. Shot right at 3/4 is anybody going hotter than 44 with varget? Iv got a 20 inch 1/10 trying to get a decent load for velocity and accuracy.
