Night Vision Helmets! Helmets everywhere! Which is best for NODs?

Thanks for the pic of the invoice. Not to be a copycat but I think I need that agilite cover on my life.

Damn, best of luck with the insurance people and extricating the car out of there.
Glad I can help! If you need some specific pics of something, let me know.

Do you think a size smaller would be a tighter fit? From the pictures it seems a bit on the loose side.

In post 448 from Stefan, I don’t think you would want it any smaller since the front lip of the helmet is not covered. I see what you mean about the sides but I wonder if a day in the rain (or a trip through the washing machine) and drying it out would tighten up the side fabric a smidge. Wouldn’t need much on the sides at all.
Edited for typo

I can try to get some more tonight. I don't really have any zoomed out pics at the moment.

Incase someone wonders about the Arctic Tab (because it is uncommon), I wrote the USARAK Arctic POI which is called CWIC (Cold Weather Indoctrination and Certification). I had another name for it but the USARAK Deputy Commander didn't like it when he figured out what the acronym was (he didn't have a sense of humor 😁 Anyways, I earned it and I absolutely loved it up there so I put it on my personal kit. https://soldiersystems.net/2020/04/...b-now-authorized-for-wear-in-us-army-pacific/

Damn! You Army kids sure do love your tabs!

Who is familiar with Team Wendy?

I pulled the trigger on this....

I wear fitted ball caps in size 7-1/4 expecting them to be tight enough the wind will not blow them away.

I am probably a true 7-3/8.

This hat is a Team Wendy Size 2 an XL.....7-3/8 to 7-7/8.

Am I going to be unhappy?

Price seems great.

There was some talk a while back about Team Wendy supporting Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election primary. I haven’t done enough research to actually know whether that was internet bullshit or if they legitimately supported her. From the little I’ve seen, it sounded like she just had a campaign event hosted at a manufacturing complex which happens to house Team Wendy, among multiple other companies. Didn’t seem like a smoking gun to me, but the internet took it and ran away hard. Plenty of guys won’t buy “Team Hillary” helmets for that reason alone.

Ive seen that story in the past....I believe I recall pictures with a big Team Wendy banner in the background.

Id likely not buy direct from them but second hand........

They are a legit US manufacturer and I believe the ballistic spec is going to be a US standard....that is the attraction.

For a new looking helmet thats a pretty good price. Trust this site more than Ebay when it comes to not getting screwed.

I only want this thing for ballistics and attaching a set of Peltor Defenders at some point. In a perfect world it will never be worn.

Ill be screwed if the thing is swimming on my "tweener" skull though.

Why does everyone on here have such big skulls? I know its not to house gray matter......

We’re basically modern-day Cro-Mags. The Hide attracts us like moths to a flame.
I thought it was because we like to hide snacks where they are readily accessible or are compensating.

I put a set of comtac 5s on my PGD using the adapters and the seal is super trash, you'd have to bend the wires wayyyy too far to get any kind of good seal. Definitely not safe for rifle use.

Anyone have good luck transferring real opscore rails?

What are the options for mounting a set of Ops Core Amp ear pro without the Amp rail arms? Since they won't work with the PGD lids and before dropping 💸 on Amps, inquiring minds want to know.

Recently got my first helmet and NV. Grabbed an HHV and a PVS14. Finally got it all mounted up, but damn, that J-arm clip seems suspect. I don't trust it all all. Any recommendations on a good lanyard?

My fat head was right at the cusp of being either a M/L or a L/XL. HHV said to go up in size. It's sort of loose. But if I put a knit hat on under it it's fine. For those that have a lot more experience, should I go to a smaller size?

Can’t tell you much about sizing but I assume your J arm is a bayonet? I didn’t trust bayonet at all so I went to dovetail as soon as I could get the bridge delivered.

As a temporary move to use what you got with a little more peace of mind, you can get some 550 cord and a small key ring. Put the small key ring in one of the holes near the power knob on the 14 body and run the cord to an attachment point somewhere on your helmet. Some companies make a similar device (Like the NERD, night vision elastic retention device) but I kinda just did my own thing.

My newest lid. Ops Core FAST SF Super High cut. Really like the weight and modularity with protection. Going to run it in a class next month with my PVS31a and e-coti. Review to come.

The new ops core shrouds on the SF are such fucking trash. Good helmet otherwise.

So received my PGD helmet and was able to mount my Ops Core Amps headset no problem. The arms that come with the kit slid in tightly to the rails, but I found the second notch up was perfect. Here's some pics. Thinking about a Multi-cam helmet cover? Recommendations? Helmet fits well and is super comfortable as everyone has been saying. This is my first helmet. Looking to get some 31's for NOD's and also need a small light for the side.

So in your case, the picattiny rails are true spec?

Look at the previous page. I probably could have spent more time doing a better job fitting the cover but I lack patience.

Are the OpsCore themselves a communication device?

Im looking at 3M Peltor VI Defenders. They will connect to other Defenders within a very limited range and allow user to user communications. There is no secondary radio hook up that I am aware of.

Peltors Defenders are about $600. I will probably never run into another person with Peltor Defenders where we can speak with each other - maybe in a class - but thats it.

I will never likely use a comms device with my ear pro.

Im very OpsCore curious on their headsets. What do I need to know about them that would push me to buy them?

Only 10-meters with no obstructions. I have a few sets and they're fun to play with, but even on the range at a class, the other guys/instructors with them are out-of-range 90% of the time.

The Bluetooth on my Apple Airpods have 2x the range.

If they could go 30-50m with good barrier penetration, THAT would be something!

Worth the premium of Peltor NIB Defenders? Been waiting for the group buy member to get some.....getting ready to just buy now though.

About the arc rails of the PGD

"The peltor is made specific for the ARC rail where ops-core owns the patent. So our rail itself works, but the top of it is too thick to add peltor as the need to grap around the top of the rail. But we add free adapters so you easily can add it.

if you want the peltor to be more tight, you just bend on the wires on the peltor."

I have every Peltor ever made, starting with ComTac III's -- III, IV, V, VI, VIXXIMMMLLX -- you name it. I still like the Sordins for straight-up ear pro, and I really like the AMPs, but always wear CT's when not using a bucket. I got a bunch from Andrew's Group Buy thread -- LEPs, TEPs, V's, etc.

A buddy of mine heads-up the division of 3M that handles their Peltor stuff, and I've done a few NV-related "favors" for him, so he gave me 4 sets of VI's and a lifetime supply of those awesome ear gel seals that seem to wear out way too quickly, but are comfortable as hell. I just replace them the moment they begin to flake now, which seems like 38 times a year.

Like I said I was able to use the Ops Core Amp rail attachment directly to my Helmet rails that came on the PGD helmet no problem. A Little tight at first but I'm sure you would want them that way anyway. Made me feel good after reading all the problems that everyone has been having with the rails on these helmets that I could mount my ear pro with no Mods to the rail. Makes this helmet seem all the more of a great deal.

As far as the Ops Core Amp headset it's a buy once cry once Item. With the NMFI plugs the sound quality is amazing and they provide 34 db of protection. They are not in themselves a radio, you will need to buy a radio and add the downlead cable and push to talk if that is what you want. The Amps do have the ability to handle two differant radio's, but unless your Active duty or LE I can't imagine why you would need to do that.

Garand Thumb on You Tube has a great video where he reviews all the differant headsets, the Amps are in a league by themselves.

I bought my Amps at Gentex website and they have packages with all the goodies, NMFI earplugs and rail adapters attachments.. Please don't think the NFMI earplugs are just cheap earplugs that they are trying to sell for 199.00 dollars. They are actually magnetic and work with the headset to provide a level of hearing and situational awareness that no other headset provides.

Great You Tube video of how to take the Amp headsets off the headband and get them onto your helmet. Super easy after watching the video.

Im not saving any money in this thread and Im not even thinking of night vision...........

How do you like the setup?
Finally got behind it for a while. Started off moonless and that l3 really shines. As the near full moon rose i kept having to dial down the l3 to almost minimum gain as the nox is on the lowest light setting and has a sureshot filter on it.

it will take getting used to it, but not bad. If something is emitting light my brain switches to the pvs, i can mentally switch eyes but it takes a second.

My game call has a red light on it and it is warm. I can see it through both devices, however they are not aligned. Its like the pvs picture is higher, or nox is lower. I tried some things to no avail.

i got no headache from running this for 2 hours. Although my neck was starting to feel the weight of 2 devices and only an ankler for a ballast. But i have a muscular neck, most others would struggle way before.

color of the L3 vs the nox wasn’t exactly spot on but not far off, but i have a filter on the nox, il play with that this weekend.

I had two discs replaced in my neck. A good balance for me is important.

Back to the PGD and Comtac issue. Are ya'll saying the adapters that come with the helmet don't work with the 2 for a good seal? Does the comtac kit work better? Have a helmet coming and want to run my comtac V's without any issues.

Got into this thread to find "cheap" protection to ride in the car, not so much for NODs.

Found a hat in the PX at what seemed a reasonable price....kind of smells like a mix of NY and Saudi skanks but it's legit made in USA ballistic protection.....and it helped a Hide member make a sale.

Outfitted it with some spall protection.....

Comfy, hoped to be never needed.

Glad to test Nods for a year or two if anyone wants to send them.

Got a set of Ops Core ears in the cart, three check month.....need to talk myself into them.

In case anyone is considering the "Legacy Fast ballistic helmet" from Bulletproofzone...I wouldn't recommend it.

Sizing is laughably wrong, according to their posted size chart L/XL is for 23.5"-25", I measure in at precisely 24", with the OCC dial at max open the helmet could barely perch on the top of my head. Realistically this helmet would fit a max size of closer to 20"-22". Other things to note is that it is pictured on their website with an Ops-Core shroud, mine came with a shitty no brand one that's worse than the $50 chinese Ops-Core fugazis. Also there were several blems in the finish, paint missing, etc.

I'm currently trying to get a refund fro BPZ, they told me I'd have to pay "restocking and administrative fees" for a return, but I'm going to fight them on it because it was blatantly misrepresented in terms of sizing and components.

At this point I'm probably going to try one of the Dutch ones or go for an Ops-Core bump

Try fewer pads. I do not believe they need all of them in it. My pgd had more pads than i needed. Took 3 out and had a couple spares to start.

It won't even make it far enough down on my head to make contact with the pads

If i gutted all the pads and retention system it might make it down about halfway

The shell is just far too small to be considered a L/XL, and zero chance in hell it will fit the advertised "up to a 25 inch measured head"

Yeah, that looks too small

I also tried the DLP arc rail and modified them to fit. Basically used a dremel to dremel down all the "ribs" that press against the shell. After they were all smooth it didn't require elongation of the screw hole for them to fit. It still required a bit of force but it worked.

Now my Comtacs fit as they should. I have to emphasize the Peltor adapters they supply are 100% trash, the seal is so bad it's not safe around nonsupressed firearms. The angle and moment of force it creates is simply not sufficient for real use. Using these knockoff arc rails with the factory Peltor arc rail adapters the seal is 10x better and is safe for using around all firearms.
