Little bit of the back story, I lost my Dad two years ago, and he is the man responsible for getting me into hunting, shooting, the military and long range. He started building a Ruger rolling block 7mm mag for me when he found out I was to be born. I have that rifle and his old Mauser Mod 2000 308 deer rifle. I am excepting a son mid summer and decided I want to build a rifle as well that will one day be his. I ordered the action, barrel and trigger today. This is what I have so far.

Zeus QC action
Proof Research 6.5 creed stainless barrel. 308 barrel in the future.
Triggertech trigger

I am still deciding on a stock or chassis, muzzle break and optic. I figured I would come here and let you all help me with this build by your suggestions. What has worded for you or what you thing would work. Pictures are always a plus.

Thanks
Dirty Doc

Stock/Chassis is something that will ideally change as he grows into the rifle so no comment.

Muzzle Brake: PVA Jet4

Optic: depends upon budget

Yeah I knew the chassis might change. I am leaning toward a chassis because less parts to obtain to have something shootable. Since it is my money haha I am going to shoot this until he gets old enough then we can switch parts. So basically I am building it for me for the time being, then pass it on when the time comes.

personally I love the AI AT chassis. Though for the terminus i had to mill out the recoil lug area a little bit.
I was leaning that way, because I have always loved the look and want to buy a complete rifle. But good heads up on having to mill out if I go that route.

Lay in some extra barrels. That outfit might hard to stay away from. That "pass it on" time is going to arrive in 3 heartbeats.
Trust me.

Foundation would look fairly timeless, given it's classic look to it.

I'm a fan of Khales for a good all around optic, but if you have the budget I would swing for a ZCO. For a brake, get a suppressor.

I'd have the barrel made and do the bartlien BB steel. Every barrel I have had made is just a little better than proof pre fits. You need to get a chassis that has as much adjustment as possible if you are going to let him have it when he's young. My boy is 5 so he's not ready for a .308 but just built him a 10/22 for Christmas and the chassis adjustment + him being able to get a sight picture in the scope is trickier than I thought it would be. Hard to beat the price of a used 624i for a good all around scope . I am a big fan of kahles.

Who do you like for barrels? I figured the proof barrels will give me something to mess with then ill have a few custom barrels cut

I have 3 of the Zues actions now and love them. The chassis is all feel. I had a MDT and found the MPAs just fit me better.

For your glass get the best thing you can afford. I have a bunch of cheaper scopes that I wish I never bought. I wish I bought 1 good scope instead of 3 cheaper ones. I have a ZCO, a Razor gen 2, and a Mark 5 and they are all solid options. There are also several other options out there too.

Southern Precision is good to go for barrels. Matter of fact Joel from Terminus recommend them to me as well.

I have given a very hard look at the Razors. So far on chassis'/stocks I am between MPA like your green one or a Foundation.

Great tradition my son and I really enjoy shooting together, I prefer the manners stocks Iv got one in a tcs and my son has a prs 1 as far as barrels the proof shoot great for the money

Been running a Zeus for a couple
Years now! Absolutely love the action. It’s was originally sporting a krg whiskey 3 enclosed and loved that chassis. Also like the mpa ba comp. the whiskey just feels right at home when you get behind it. It has since been moved to a manners prs1t which is fantastic. The whiskey has been moved to the vudoo v22. For stocks I highly recommend the manners prs1t or try a foundation. Chassis, for sure the whiskey 3 or mpa. I also ran an mdt a bit and it didn’t fit as well. Going to give it another go but for now it’s these two chassis.

Brakes I like heathens.

I feel like the trend here is to spec out his son's rifle with a chassis, which has a tactical bend to it. Why?

What is the intended use case?
What kind of hunting would he do?
How soon will be use this rifle? How big will he be?

I feel like a first rifle is best served in a more traditional stock. In this case, a compact model.

If he gets into shooting, by the time he is into long range precision shooting (say 15 years from now?), we'll either not be allowed to have chassis (because they look scary) or the new chassis will have built in laser range finders and hover over the ground without a bi-pod! :ROFLMAO:
