Burris XTR Pro 🇺🇸

To answer my own Q, just spoke with Burris CS - said not shipping until end of February. To be fair to the lashing I gave MDT earlier today, it doesn't matter if I love the product (XTR3) - they dried up the market for XTR3's in Nov, missed the Xmas season, and will have had a ~4 month product gap by the time these hit dealers. Management is so poor you have to wonder how they stay in business.

I wonder what happened to sitting on the shelf ready to ship? I was bummed when I sent my check, thinking that waiting for my check to clear was going to really slow my scope delivery down, but I guess not.😁

I also will not be kind if this product is not perfect. That's the problem with higher price point, I expect more for my money. I overlooked things I didn't like on the xtrii and xtr3 because I figured for the price I paid I could live with it, but once you go north of $2k I expect more.

Wow, I can’t believe shipping is going to take that long. I was hoping they’d be on shelves by now.

You don’t need good management when demand is through the roof for everything and shitty deadlines/launch dates/availability is the norm in your industry.

Not saying Burris management is shitty. This stuff shouldn’t happen but I expect it when it comes to guns and optics. It shouldn’t be this way but it is.

Just bought a Tangent Theta 5-25 and a Vortex LHT 4.5-22 to tide me over. Good job Burris :ROFLMAO:

Burris is upping their game. Again. An American company, using American workers, making American products. If that doesnt tickle ur fancy you probably tested positive for commi and you should quarantine 🤣🤣🤣

The XTR Pro will again be made in Greeley, Colorado. Im very excited about this optic.

…more to follow!!
In my opinion, Burris is the best ever!! I had the XTR 1(MOA) back in 2009 and sold it like a fool a year later for something else. I still regret. I've had an an XTR II now for 3 years and I'll go to my grave with it lol. Have fun with your evaluations on this model man!!

Remember that one time that the Japanese plant halted production on 70 series landcruisers because they had to repurpose their forges for the new Landcruiser line, and there was a back log for nearly six months?

Yeah, sometimes management is just dealing with economics with product pipelines and caring about quality over quantity. Losing a couple of sales on the XTR3, and possible the XTR PRO in order to have a smooth launch that doesn't push out sub quality items (Steiner T5 launch comes to mind) was probably a fair trade.

what?!?!? actual reasons for delays? 🤯🤯🤯

kind of the reason they waited to announce. and as noted Burris has made no promises on any dates. only announcing new product before shot.

Birddog or myself dont work for Burris. we have day jobs and shoot their stuff. we run matches and love when american companies sponsor them.

Be patient. its worth it. so am i. haha.

Pro model looks awesome, but the release video did seem like these were shipping out now. I'm sure they are worth the wait though.

I was at Shot for 2 days, I was impressed with the new XTR Pro....really what's not to like, the glass was great, turrets were great, reticle was nice, illimination was great (partial reticle illumination which I prefer)

It's all about preference, Honestly I think you can't go wrong with these scopes....... the XRS3, MK5, XTR Pro or Vortex gen 3. I would sort of say that If I had to choose the XTR pro has a very appealing list of features for the price

I don't think the razor gen 3 belongs in this group. It's probably comparable Performance wise, but it's priced in the next level.
fair enough. I am/was excited about the XTR pro, but talk here in this chat about a 1 year wait is just not feasible

I would be really interested in the XTR PRO if it didn't have the red. To me, Burris trying to get a signature look like the Razor.

The best part is the Burris website has a bunch of reviews of the scope posted already. Like a dude saying he's not gay with a dick in his mouth :ROFLMAO:
Ouch... now you're just being mean! 😉

One of those reviews is mine, after 3 range trips and a side by side with an ATACR, a K5251 and a Cronus. One of the other reviews is another Burris shooter. Three reviews are sports writers or YouTubers who got one for review. XRing has his review up on YouTube. The only one I dont recognize is Anonymous, for obvious reasons. So I can vouch for 5 out of 6 reviews posted. All of those people have or have had a Pro in hand.

I'm not sure I'm buying that they are sitting on scopes and not shipping. There are a bunch of these already produced. I got it straight from the horse's mouth that they had close to 200 of them ready to sell at Shot and ship out.

I suspect they are shipping scopes. I just don't know who got in line first and where they are going.

I actually like the turrets painted, red wouldn't have been my first choice but I still like it. If the razor can sell with the ugly brown, I guess the XTR won't have an issue selling with the red.

Well I can end the suspense... its not perfect..

I absolutely belive its the best tactical scope south of $2500. But even that doesn't buy perfection.

I love a lot of things about mine. Its fantastic in all the categories that matter. I love the new turrets, super smooth. Love love the new glass. But as I've mentioned previously, speaking only for myself, there are a couple of features that fall short of perfection. Another person may not even care, I'm just being nitpicky.

I have to agree with all the features the new XTR pro offers

The scope looks great with tons of features as well, but people (myself included) will tend to be picky on features when spending $2k or more on an optic. I’m hesitant to buy one and keep going back and forth. Only 26 mils of internal elevation out of a 34mm tube kills the deal for me.

tangent theta only has 28 mils and plenty of guys use these for ELR beyond 2 miles (granted with a Charlie Tarac)
What application the optic is used in always matters. While 26 mils is perfect for competition and some other applications, what I would use it for is less than adequate and kills the deal of wanting one at this point in time. That doesn’t mean I won’t probably snag one in the future to play with, I’ll just wait for a used one

What ELR are you doing?
Once you get to extreme ranges an additional 4 or 5 mils of elevation doesn't give you bugger all, maybe 5% more distance.

Surely if you are pushing out in the 2k+ or stupid long distance 22lr, you basically need some other device (eratac base etc) to give you anything meaningful.

22lr out to 500 yards is my next application so it’s a very specific optic I’m looking at as stated agreeing with the fact that we can all be picky in our decisions. 26 mils is the the total internal elevation, how much travel is lost mounted on a 20 moa base? 8-12 mils more is my guess. As I mentioned not specific to my next application and also not taking anything away from the optic whatsoever, as all scopes will lose elevation travel somewhere in that range when mounted.

Yeh thats a pretty good stretch for 22 rimfire. I've shot my rimfire that far. My 18x XTR3 that I have on my rimfire has 36mils of travel, I have 31mils useable. Which if I recall, is about what it took to get to 500 yards.

Beyond that I think you'll need a CT.

Went down to Liberty Range today (LGS by Greeley) to look at the current xtr3. They didn’t have a new one but they did have one on a used rifle. I started talking to the kid at the counter, who was surprisingly knowledgeable, and he hinted at the new line up so I ran with it. He said he “thinks” Burris will begin shipping at the end of the month and they will see the first Pros in early February. Of course that is all subject to change and he is not the one that does the ordering. We did discuss the 3i a little as well. Anyway, he took my number and the guy that does all the ordering is going to call me in the next few days to discuss.

Can someone comment on whether the XTR Pro is using the same erector as the XTR III? If memory serves, when the XTR III came out it was mentioned that Burris was using the same erector as the Steiner M7Xi; however, instead of using the full 7x range Burris intentionally used only 5.45 and there were optical advantages of doing so. I think @koshkin may have commented on this but would be curious to understand what advantages there are to using “less” of the full potential of a particular erector set.

That’s interesting. I wonder if it has to do with the optical distortion and eye box issues you get when using max power on an erector? I did notice on the xtr3 I looked through today, I had to move forward quite a bit on the cheek weld at max power. It still looked quite good though.

Damn, im late to the party in this thread, been seeing the thread for a bit now but just ignored it because it was a Burris thread. I've had a sour taste In my mouth ever since I bought a XTRII.. This optic really looks promising, love the new turret design, looks like burris knocked it out of the park on this one, granted the glass is good and the functionality is there.. I might snag one of these in the near future, ill Wait till some get out into more peoples hands first..

It's been some time since we talked about Burris' reason for not using the full erector ratio on the XTR3. If I recall I dont think the scope played out as well as they would have liked at 36x as it did at 30x. Having looked through a few 35x MK5s I can kinda see their point. I think it really takes a step out of the sub 2k price point in glass quality to pull it off well.

To the best of my knowledge they are still using that same erector ratio. They tried to avoid reinventing the wheel with this optic in areas they felt performance was solid. This scope looks really good at 30x.

I can neither confirm nor deny that it's "possible" that they will be entertaining higher magnification options for this optic down the road. 😉

^As my grandfather used to say, finish what's on your plate before you ask for more!
I don't think anyone would ever acuse the decision makers at Burris of being hasty..

5 years from XTRII to XTRIII
3 years and counting from XTRIII to XTR3i

"If" they bump magnification on the Pro, and my humble opinion is that the market is trending that way and they will, it will be some time down the road.

I just wanted my Pro's. I'll still get them, but I bought a couple of others in the meantime so I didn't lose my shooting season. Fire season begins in April for me, and I don't shoot again (other than at a range) until Thanksgiving.

Interesting. I went out and checked how much up I have on my rifle. On my factory Tikka and im not sure if the base is canted, I have 21.5 mils of up.

Before I put it on my Tikka I was shooting elr with my rimfire. I made a bet with a friend I could hit a target at 485, which is my furthest attempt with a rimfire for me, on my RimX I dialed to 19 mils of up (maxed out) and held over another 8.5 which wasnt tough at all and got a 3rd round impact. we were both crazy surprised. I was lucky enough to see my first 2 shots. Kestrel said 27.5 mils and for some reason after dialing 19, I held only 7 more daaaa.

The large FOV made holdovers at higher zoom zoom easily done.

I love elr rimfire. Im not sure what to say for scope choices other than I would get in this order: Tracking glass quality and fov. If $$ didnt matter, then the TT would be on my rifle.

Unfortunately, with 4 boys under 10, having options near $2k or under is all I can hope for. If I have a scope that can dial 20 mils, thats what I am happy with in elr rimfire.

Burris also makes the rings with inserts. I use them exclusively with rimfire to max out dialing. on any scope (unfortunately didnt have any avail but I did order some more.). very worth it in your ELR endeavor.

I really like the matte finish, but the finish really shows dust after a very tough and dusty/windy match. Wipes clean easy enough tho.

Day one had 50+ gusts. Hardest day of shooting of my life. Finished top 308 and a tie fo 5th overall. Tracking wasnt an issue. Running 2 differents types of ammo was. daaaaa. 155's and 175's.

Some rimfire fun with the pup. Man I love these turrets. SOOOOOO much better than the old ones.

My view as a retailer is I'm excited for these. We sold a bunch of the XTRII with mixed reviews. It seems like the supply window for the XTRIII was much shorter, with limited supply, but the feedback from customers on those was pretty much 100% "very happy" customers. The XTRII were widely distributed, while with the XTRIII it seemed like Burris hand selected a very few top notch distributors to carry that line, but they have virtually vanished from all of the same distributors catalogs and I don't see any evidence the XTRIIIi and Pro are upcoming with the same. So I'm not sure what the game plan is, but would love to know. If Burris is moving to direct (like Steiner) I will get right on it.

Great post. I've been a fan of my XTRIII and it will remain my primary optic this season. With that being said, I've all but lost patience on the illuminated models coming out. The match pro looks great, but that's not what the market, including myself, was asking for. We simply wanted illumination, specifically the 3-18 model.
D_Tros along with Birddog have done a great job marketing Burris' product, and I feel bad for them that Burris has essentially thrown them under the bus. Speaking for myself, it's getting a bit nauseating seeing their posts about how great the optic is, but yet, it's vaporware for the market. The "coming soon" mantra has worn itself thin. I'll continue to enjoy my XTRIII 5-30, but I think I'll move on at this point as I'm tired of waiting. I have no brand loyalty to anyone. I simply want to run the best equipment for the $ I can afford and that is available.

I have an XTRII 4-20 with the H591 reticle. The glass is surprisingly good with the one I have. Previously, I had picked up 5-25 certificate's off of match prize tables, at two different Matches, and both times after getting the scopes I was disappointed with the image quality of the 5-25's, in addition to the ones I looked through that were mounted on other shooters rifles. The biggest problem I encountered with the 5-25 image was that it was not distortion free from edge to edge as one would expect with quality optics. It was as if the middle 33% was distortion free, but as you moved closer to the edge, the distortion would get worse.

I had heard from others that the 4-20's generally had better optics quality over the 5-25's. I had a chance to look through @D_TROS XTRIII when that was a new offering, and I wasn't impressed, although it was better than the XTRII 5-25.

For me, having a reticle that I like, and fits my needs is a very important consideration when choosing a scope, and until Burris offers more reticle choices, I will not be interested in the new offering, no matter how good the glass or turrets are.

Seems to be a pattern....Bushnell (poorly) started marketing their new Elite tactical almost 6 months before you could get your hands on the XRS3

It can't possibly be that far out. As I have stated, they have a bunch of these already produced. Somebody got some, I just haven't had any luck in finding out who.

The new XTR3i is going to be on a different track. Greeley didn't have the facility capacity to meet XTRIII demand, so its my strong suspicion is that the Pro will continue to come out of Colorado, and the XTR3i will be produced elsewhere in much greater numbers. With illumination and a decreased price tag, they are going to sell a lot of those.
