I've been curious on this decision as well. Though I'm looking for a short .223 bolt gun for general purpose use (target shooting on the cheap, small critters, etc.) I'm still torn between the R700 AAC 16.5 vs the Savage 10PC. But I'm leaning HEAVILY towards the Remmy. The action would be a...
Crye Precision just came out with its "Smart Pouch" line, see if that can fit your needs. I know I'll certainly be buying some of their new nylon. Crye Precision
I'm personally referring to these specifically in my case http://www.midwayusa.com/product/950827/talley-lightweight-2-piece-scope-mounts-with-integral-30mm-rings-tikka-knight-mk85-matte-low?cm_vc=ProductFinding

I have used my issued armor for PT uses. Now, I plan on getting training plates (non-ballistic), to add weight. It certainly does ride better then the weight vests I've tried. Wearing weight vests for wildland fire qualification and trying out the big box store samples made me stick to a plate...
The 1911s design makes it so when feeding the round has a further "jump" into the chamber then other offerings. Hence the feedway issues. What I mean by maintenance intensive is that if you have a parts breakage at all, its gonna require hand fitting or a trip to the gun smith in most cases...
I love 1911s, however they are not the best for carry purposes. They are maintenance intensive when shot a lot, and are known as the "king of the feedway stoppage" Not to mention a much higher buy in price for one that will run. Lower capacity, more weight.
Basic training privates take rack M4s (14.5in barrels) out to 300m, with irons. High power shooters take tuned AR15s out to 600yds with no support other then sling, also with irons. Shoot, and upgrade when you can.
