YUP! Love mine. Awesome scope. It does extremely well in low/bad light and glare. Plus its lightweight and the dials are repeatable and accurate. All in all, the ideal hunting scope IMHO.
you are really going to be hard pressed to find a better top-tier optic for hunting that the VX-5/6HD. They are built to take anything you can throw at it, but generally the lightest in terms of weight. The glass is crisp, clear and bright edge to edge (even at high power) and you cant beat them...
leupold does not make their own glass. period. end of story. it is all from asia. Leupold puts together components at their plant in Oregon. what small parts are made where or where the scope was designed has nothing to do with what I said. Leupold has modified their website many times...
This is not true. If it says Leupold on it, and it goes on a rifle or pistol, its "designed, manufactured, and assembled" in their plant in Oregon. That is what i got directly from one of their customer service dudes.
Yes i bought the RX-2800 because of this video. It's truly fantastic. It works just like in the video, Its super quick, had a bright clear display and is repeatable.
I had a similar dilemma, and someone pointed me to this youtube video comparision below. And yes, i did go with the RX-2800 and its been nothing short of awesome.
I went with the Mark 5 personally. I think the vortex has a slight edge in "glass" during ideal conditions, but overall the Mark 5 performed better in 'non-ideal' lighting such as overcast/low light/glare than the Vortex. At least to my eyes. Plus i don't like the color of the vortex or the...
I had the same dilemma as you did, thankfully i found this video on youtube comparing most of the rangefinders i was looking at. Needless to say, i went with the RX-2800 and am very happy with it.
The Leupold illuminated with T3 is $2600 USD retail. Non-illuminated T3 is $2100 USD retail. https://www.eurooptic.com/Leupold-Mark-5-Scopes.aspx?q=ODZlYWM1ZGUtZDgzYy00N2M3LTkyNGItNWI1ZWEyZWExYmY2_ZTc2Yzk3ODItYzI5ZC00YzljLWI4ZDYtOWI4MjZjYTkwNWRh&o=0&p=1&i=48&d=48
You are going to be hard pressed to find something better than the Leupold Mark 5HD for less than $2k. @koshkin did a nice video comparing a bunch of high end scopes, and he said the Mark 5HD was the best bang for the buck.
If you are talking about a MIL/LE discount, most manufactures provide them. Leupold does offer an awesome discount i can tell you that. https://www.leupold.com/leupold-core/vip-programs
I was speaking from a durability standpoint, but i get what you are saying. Personally, I hardly dial with my hunting scopes, but I recall my dials were accurate and returned to zero when i was doing load testing from 100/200/400/600/800. If i recall, it tracking issue was an early VX-6 issue...
