The price of Alliant powders is much higher than any others around here, even Vitahvouri, which used to be the highest by far. I won't be using them until they come down to Earth again, (or close to the other companies prices).
Considering this variable, would it be a better Idea to purchase 8 separate 1# cans of powder of the same lot, or one 8# jug, if one was to load for a cartridge over about a year? Idea being, that only one pound is used at a time, as the others are left sealed, keeping the original humidity...
Better yet, maybe just neck size your 1X brass and then start work on your 2X fired brass. That will give you a better picture of what your chamber really looks like.
I'm sorry DDR, I was mistaken. You don't have to readjust the die between shellholder changes. Just set the die to touch the top of the .010" SH, and progressively go down towards the .002" SH, until you arrive at your desired shoulder setback. Sorry for the confusion....
I like it to size 1/2 the neck. Theory is that it is enough to grip the bullet firmly, and the unsized lower portion of the neck helps center the neck in the rifle's chamber. It seems to work for me!
I was thinking of going the Anneal-riteII method of annealing, and was wondering if tumbling with corn cob or walnut will remove the Tempilaq residue from inside the case neck. Thanks!
Glen Zediker states that 748 is a wonderful powder/very accurate, but gets "psycotic" as the temps rise. Doesn't sound like it's temp stable, according to him.
I called Neco and he said it was very involved and you needed burn info from the powder manufacturer, which was hard to obtain. I hope 4759 doesnt get discontinued, but I have been stocking up just in case.....
