Just wanted to add a little twist to the thread instead of starting a new one, I'm using 17.5 g h110 under 160 g hornadys I had laying around. The twist is I didn't have any small pistol primers and just used some cci small rifle primers. Works great with no signs of pressure at that charge...
I'm running a leupold mark 4 5-25 ffp does just fine. 20 moa base. 1 mile is my limit with that base. I'd recommend a 30 maybe more. Here's what I'm getting for dope. Good luck.
H-1000. My badger ordnance doesn't care much for the retumbo. Try 89 grains of h-1000. Also to restate. Forget the 100 yard groups. I just about sold my rifle trying to make it shoot one hole goups at a 100 yards. I'm using berger otm 300 grain tactical and have had very good results If you'll...
Running shooter software. I tend to favor high on my first shot. My data shows 20.8 for the conditions Yesterday. So I dialed 20 and held half a mil high. My rifle shoots about .2 or .3 mils high on a cold bore. Is this what you are asking? ( Rotortuner)
I've posted a few times about elr with my 338. Today was by far the most gratifying day with this rifle. I've been striving to achieve a first round hit at a mile and that happened today. Luck is always welcome. But I'd did follow with 2 consecutive hits with an average 3 shot group of 20...
I use an app called "Measure Map" works great for the iPhone and I think it was less than $3 bucks. Just used it to range a mile shot today and it was surprisingly accurate. Good luck.
Have a very nice older model 54. Has the original bench rest stock and shoots very well. I'm not an avid .22 shooter but do shoot long range more tactical style guns. I'm asking for advice on how to convert this rifle to a trainer so to speak. I like the aics style chassis or along those...
Well back to 100 yards today. Went from 86 grains to 89 grains of H-1000 and my groups at 100 yards were very good. Had some cratering on the primers but no bolt lift issues. I had some Retumbo left so loaded 5 rounds with 89.5 grains and they all shot well. 5 shots all touching an easy 3/4 moa...
Thanks for all the opinions. Just one of those things I guess I was taught as a young kid shooting. Or just picked up. As stated above I never thought I was doing damage just a habit I got into.
I like where this thread is headed. Very good info here. I was originally thinking along the lines of permanent damage to a barrel caused by rapid fire. I never have shot a rifle of mine to the point I thought it was that hot but I guess it's possible. As far as barrel type and design I did...
Just wanted opinions on how hot is to hot. I'm a little over protective especially on larger caliber guns. I usually shoot a group 3 to 5 shots and stop for 5 or 10 min to let the barrel cool. I've never actually been told to do this I just do. So anyone know? Thanks Natesguns.
