    Try some Accubonds, Partitions,or Barnes bullets in it before you give up. Nothing wrong with a 7 mag.

    Yes, but he also wants to shoot to 1000. Not meaning to argue. I'm asking because I'm considering same. The 26 may be unwieldy, but many hunting rifles are 24". How much speed would be lost with 4" less barrel? IS it not enough to be a consideration at 1000?

    high speed, short range, smaller caliber, I would be looking at using something bonded, a partition, or mono metal like the Barnes. I prefer bullets that stay together and penetrate fully, even if weird things happen or you are faced with the choice of a less than good shot angle.
