Several multi caliber setups available now, i.e. AI, DT, and the custom actions with floating bolt heads. Would def cost a little more upfront, but prob save money in the long run vs 2 or 3 seperate rifles.. Just another option.

I would start with a scope upgrade and then sell your AT chassis to help fund a full AI rifle. Down the road as your budget allows, you can re purpose the Rem 700 barreled action you kept as a handier and more mobile rig using the barrels you already have cut down and a lighter stock or chassis.

I hunt with a 30-06 sporter weight rifle and its fine but I would not go bigger.

Is the base removable though? I strongly prefer to mount my scopes low and have little interest in running night vision... Not on this rifle at least.
