Gunsmithing Gunsmiths - What brand caliper do you use?
Mitutoyo & Starrett, interchangably. I found several for pennies on the dollar thanks to Craigslist, usually machine shops going under or estate sales. I've procured seldom-used calipers and tons of other indicators/calipers/depth gauges the same way.- tarfu64

Gunsmithing Hand Crowning Tool?
Manson Reamers has a nice crowning tool. It's geared for the professional user who will be recutting many crowns, hence the cost is a bit steep. Having said that, it cuts one of the nicest crowns I have seen and does so without having to remove the barrel & chucking it up into a lathe.- tarfu64

I haven't had this issue with Remingtons, but I sure as heck have had them with old Mausers. I've used a spring-loaded center punch on some recalcitrant pins that refused to budge, even when using the "bigger hammer". And stay away from polishing the feedramp. Please. I've seen more over-polished feedramps in 1911's than I care to in my shop, and if you aren't very-and I do mean very-careful you can destroy the proper geometry that is needed for proper feeding and functioning.
