    Straping Rifle to a Rest

Looking to do some shooting off of a rest like the Hyskore Dangerous Game Rifle Shooting Rest where you use a hydraulic device to pull the trigger and the rest absorbs the recoil. I already have a fairly solid shooing rest that holds the front and rear of the rifle. It is a solid rest but is not...

    Aperture Sights Tikka T3

Was thinking of buying a Swedish CG63 to try some shooting with aperture sights. But I got to thinking and wondered if I could just put some aperture sights on my Tikka T3 6.5x55? I know that the Tikka T3 I have is very accurate with a scope. Did a search and found this Tikka T3 6.5 HPR...

Of all the surplus rifles out there, which of them could take the longest shot accurately and how far? Which would be next and so on? Same with surplus calibers, in order, which is most accurate at the longest range, which is second and so on?

Eye Focused On Front Sight Pin

I cut the lip off my rear sight so the hole I am looking through is not as noticeable. I also shortened and made the front sight pin thinner and things are back to normal. "Try this drill, shoot on a blank white piece of paper, size of paper dependent on distance but is fairly irrelevant. But...

Rifle Scopes Mill Dots 2nd Focal Plane Variable Power Scope

On a 2nd focal plane scope with variable power and mil dots, how do you know where point of impact is going to be at different powers? I have just been leaving the scope on the same power and using the mil dots to hit different steel gongs at different yardages. I dont have a range finder so I...

    Rapid Fire Damage?

Can you shoot fast enough or long enough to damage a bolt action rifle barrel? If so, what happens to the barrel? Does barrel length, caliber or diameter make a differences? I like making up plinking rounds for my Tikka Lite 6.5x55 and 30-06 and just keep shooting at steel targets. Is there a...

Gunsmithing Cutting Out Barrel Throat Erosion Breech End

Listening to Gun Talk and Tom said that if you have a barrel with throat erosion, you can extend the life by removing the barrel, cutting out the throat erosion (from the breech end) thread the barrel and reinstall. Does this actually work? Is it cost effective if you have a smith do it?

Eye Focused On Front Sight Pin

I went shooting again today and had no problem with seeing the target and front sight with the iron sight on a Marlin 30/30 and a Henry lever action 22. There must be something with my rear peep sight that makes me not focus on the target properly. I will change my peep sight and see what happens.

Eye Focused On Front Sight Pin

I have a problem of my eye focusing on the front sight pin. I am thinking its from some projects I have been working on but not sure. I have been working on making a peep sight. It was made from a .32 cal case with the head cut off. With the peep sight I could see the target well enough to...

    Recommend a Tikka T3

My boy has a T3 Lite stainless 30-06 and I have a T3 Litestainless 6.5x55 Swiss. If you go stainless, you will still need to protect the barrel with oil or carnauba wax as the ss will rust. Found out after a wet hunt. For a non reloader 30-06 can be a good choice as there is a ton of...

    Judging Rifle, Judging Shooter, Accuracy

When checking the accuracy of a rifle (new, used or surplus, iron sights or scope), what is the minimum distance to the target you should be shooting at to rule out human error. How many shots are needed? How long between shots? The trick of the above question is "rule out human error" or...

    'Best' Iron Sights Shooter

Is there such a rifle that is preferred or user friendly for shooting with iron sights? Or is it just up to the eyes of the beholder? Is it true that the longer the sight radius helps with accuracy?
