Am I missing any viable alternatives in that line-up? "Short" is 9.5" or less (in this context only). The reason "I care" is because it's going on an 11.5" gun with laser and remote and it all needs to fit sensibly. I also fantasize a bout sneaking a COTI in there, but kinda doubt that will happen.

This is a strange way to pick an optic given the feature sets of those are very different.
Also, outside of the clip-on that (as you mention) probably won't happen, how does the extra length affect anything more than the already limited rail space...unless your laser is a Peq2. It seems more sensible to me to opt for a slightly higher mount (and get a cheek riser if needed). And is the 11.5" set in stone? 12.5" barrel with an extra inch of rail not an option?

I can fit a ATACR 1-8 with a PVS24LR on a Mk12 Mod H. So 14 inches of rail space give or take.

What CNVD do you intend to use? The 24LR is pretty long, the 27 and 22 are shorter than it IIRC.

Your COTI comment got me curious, are you intending to use a PVS14 as a clip on? If can work alright in a pinch but not what it's meant for. A clip on thermal will take up far less space, get you better applications, and in most cases with older PAS23s and RH25s come in a few grand cheaper.

As far as the MFAL goes, put it on a side rail or on a diving board if you run out of space

-I'm set on 11.5. It's as short as I can go and maintain the ballistic characteristics I want.
-I am not sure which CNVD, although COTI was more the plan, if it fit, maybe, later. Voodoo-S is what has my eye so far, but that's not very in depth researched yet.
-I use Raids, so they belong above the bore (in my opinion).
-I had an ATACR, it was just too much scope physically. I currently have an NX8 and it does okay, just curious about options.

A better question would be why NV clip-on when most pure thermal clip-ons are now cheaper (even the upscale ones like the voodoo-s), and will give you a pretty good "greyscale NV" when properly adjusted?

I was originally of similar thoughts, but after pig hunting with a borrowed Bering clip-on, my opinion quickly shifted to NV on the head and thermal on the gun.

Honest opinion here is it sounds like you'd be much better served by a high-mounted red dot or holo and a 5x magnifier. That would allow you passive NV aiming at 1x; then 1x thermal or 5x thermal. Unity makes a thermal flip mount that would give you a "configurable" optics train that is still high enough the RAID would not be obscuring.

So something like a 5x mag on a unity Fast FTC mount, an EXPS or Sig 4T-Pro (or 4XT) on a unity riser, and then a thermal on the CTM mount, raid in front of that.

Then helmet mount whatever NV you like (fused or otherwise)

I am not going to question your reasoning and motivation. Personally, I really like the ultra short LPVOs. The way I use LPVOs, they absolutely make sense to me.

The first ultra short LPVO was the original March Shorty 1-8x24. That one is FFP only and no side focus. I still have mine and use it almost exclusively for hunting with and without a thermal clip-on. The DFP 1-10x is a better scope, but this one was the first, I think.

I have been trying to convince a couple of manufacturers to explore how short they can make a 1-4x or 1-6x model, but no luck so far.

The further back I can place the clip-on, the easier it is to reach the controls and the better the whole thing balances.

Decided to try this one night for yotes. 11.5 upper, just a sig tango6t and a 22, a reference, I can see the allure of a shorter lvpo.

I'd buy a mid tier US 1-6 if it was shorter than a NX8.
Sounds like a cool concept for the reasons you've mentioned.
