7mm PRC

This is

180 eldm
rl26. 66.5gr
Norma brass 2x
215m primer
Gives 3015 and SD 7

Was actually fussy about seating depth. Shot well at. 005 and .050 and nowhere else.

Bergers 184 worked across a broad range of powder charges. This was 66.5 and 66.8

As a follow up question - who has found an acceptable powder in LRT, Magnum, Retumbo, etc. my bbl doesnt love h1000, and it could be 2 years before i find another keg of rl26 (which i burn in my 6.5prc as well)

anyone?

What bullet weight? I’m using Retumbo for Berger 190s and it is getting near 3000 fps in a 30” barrel. SDs are a bit higher than I prefer, but results on target have been very acceptable.

I've had good luck with Ramshot Grand, velocities up there with RL-26, temp stable and available. Staball HD was ok, but didn't really live up to the billing for me, unlike Grand.

Finally had time over the last 2 weeks to finish load development on my custom 7 PRC. Here is my load I worked up in my rifle:

Peterson Brass (2.2630”) trimmed (wet tumbled, & annealed)
(3) thousandth neck tension
Federal 215m Match Primer
(66.20g) H1000
Berger 190g LRHT
AVG group size: (.25”)
AVG muzzle velocity: 2970fps

(Chronograph data was taken today for the 4th confirmation group)
what barrel length are you running with those speeds and charge? thank you

I'm using Hornady for load development till Lapua comes out. I have 100 pieces, 20 of them were sacrificed to the pressure gods. 30 pieces have loosening but useable pockets.

The other 50 pieces have never seen more than 67.5 grains of H1000 with 180 grain bullets and should last the typical 10 or so cycles, I'm guessing.

I purposefully got junk brass for load development. I throw it away without a twinge of regret.

How many firings before primer pocket loosening and too loose leading to tossing?

Also for those whom see this how many firings are you all getting out of ADG and Peterson brass at this point w/o signs that you need to toss the brass (i.e. primer pocket loosening, neck splitting etc). I reload a lot but creedmoor, GT, BR, and dasher.... the large magnum brass makes that brass seem cheap in comparison. I have 10 firings on Lapua dasher brass it's crazy and it's still going strong.

Thank you

If I stay at or below book max of 67.5 grains of each 1000 with a 180, I think they will last indefinitely without expansion
Primer pocket expansion is invariably a result of an over pressure load. At least over pressure for that brass.

As soon as I hit 68 grains or more, the primer pockets expand

I eagerly await Lapua brass, and I will buy a couple hundred cases and be done with it for the rest of the life of this barrel. And maybe even the next barrel

I would recommend Peterson as well. I have always found them to be on par with each other.
