The AI Arctic Warfare Picture Thread

Holy shitballs, is that what these things are going for now? I have that same gun in my safe and it hasn't been out for years, maybe it's time...

Damn...
I'd rather go and shoot the shit out of that rifle. Once its gone you'll regret it.
If you sell it, sell it to someone whos going to shoot the damn thing. Those rifles are not meant to hang on a wall.

Cheers

Okay chaps! Great news. The AW patches are in and are ready to be shipped out (this was much faster than anticipated). They are as pictured, 4" in diameter with velcro hook backing.

Due to higher than expected manufacturing costs, the price is going to be $14 shipped per patch. Please note: People who've preordered will pay the the original price. Ill be reaching out to folks who preordered soon to confirm shipping addresses.

I'm cashing in for my honorary member patch. ;-)

If you want one I HIGHLY suggest snagging this one from SS. These things are a nightmare to find. UK gov confiscated the first one I snagged on Ebay for some reason. SS was able to get their's to me in the US no problem. The one you're looking for is item 6184 that says SIMRAD in the name. They currently have 1 in stock as of writing this.

Guys,

What height and how many MOA were used on the L115A3 with the AI mount and a 5-25x56 PMII?

Cheers

The Dovetail mounts are hard to find?

Specifically the SIMRAD scope mount for the L115A3. Those mounts are picatinny only. Ive been told that the dovetail mounts in general are harder to find, but all my rifles are picatinny already so I haven't had to deal with that issue.
Just was curious. I have a dovetail AI mount sitting around from when I sold my 96 AW. I didn’t know they were hard to come across.

36.5 mm hight , 45 MOA

Btw Agree with Austin.
I think the only original Simrad mount for L115A3 existing in the world (maybe..? almost surely) is the one sold by SS ... so if u want original one, u have to contact directly Ian from SS.

Probably the only brand new one for sale out of however many SS had through proper channels. There are plenty of others around that fell off the back of a truck.

You can get replicas from the link below though. I don't know how accurate of a copy they are but for only £120, you might as well have a go 🤷‍♂️ Considering second hand ones on ebay are £3-400.

Thanks for the advice guys, bought the last one from SS. Dealt with them earlier, excellent service.

great buy. it's not cheap..but if you want to make a clone it's perhaps the most difficult piece to find(y)
Never intended to do so, seeing Austin's and your builds inspired me to do so. Was hard enough to find an AWSM, so why not make the best out of it.

Already got a fitting S&B aswell.

Local AW308 score here in DFW.

According to the seller it was purchased direct from AINA in Mingus, TX in 2009. It has only 4 rounds fired through it since the original 2009 purchase. Came with the whole kit and is beautiful condition.

Its going to have had alot more than 4 rounds through it the very near future.

Did he end up selling it without the NF scope?

I can't wait to see how it all looks on your AWSM!!!!
Same. This is likely going to be a brutal package with the original AI supressor.
Will also reach out for the angeled picatinny mount.

If we manage to put the green skins on its going to be the only rifle i shoot. I am in line for 2 extra LW original barrels aswell.

This went from zero to full retard pretty quick🤣

A huge danke to @DKN83 for helping me find a set of L115A3 correct stocksides (tan) for my AWSM. It appears that there is no real difference between the AWM and AW stocksides except for a small plastic piece, that looks like AI literally just cuts off in the factory (pictured).
AI used the same mould for all chassis back then. This is related to why the old AICS chassis had that square block around the bolt handle. The best way to neaten everything up after modifying AW skins for a Rem700 bolt handle was to just take a larger chunk out and implement the cosmetic square block. The block covered up the cheap cut marks that could be seen through the top. Any assumptions of it acting as an auxiliary lug for the bolt handle are not true - similar to speculations of the square AI design being a result of ingenuity to allow maximum rigidity or to use double stack/feed magazines etc! After all, Rem700 bolt handles are just braised on, so would quite easily snap off if the bolt lugs failed.

I almost won an auction for 4 sets of genuine G22A1 skins but was sniped in the last 10 seconds. They would have been very useful 😕

G22 stuff doesn't come around often here in the US, but when it does its stratospherically expensive.

Very nice but nothing to suggest it actually came off a G22A1. I think those scopes were commercial at one point. Looks like that seller has a lot of other weird stuff at very high prices.

A few years ago, you could buy G22A1 transit cases for the equivalent of about $300. They were probably officially decommissioned when the A2 came out.

Ha yes it was on there! To be fair, I wasn't interested in going any higher, even if ~300eur was a good price. I would have wasted too many hours hunting down rear skins, plus a set of front skins without matching rear skins were painted so would have had to be stripped and lose its "historic value", or sit on my shelf as a useless trinket.

Exactly my thoughts, the green ones were missing the rear, absolutely useless. I have never seen a single rear one sold within the last years. Would have expected 300 to be way enough in germany to get them but there we go....
